Honestly by Mazyn

0

After releasing a bunch of singles over a year, Ottawa-based Egyptian-Canadian hip-hop artist Mazyn is back with his new track “Honestly”, the perfect blend of hypnotic music that will surely take you to a different world.

In Mazyn’s track, the flows are innovative and rap fans will be amazed when they hear its diversity. It starts with a great musical introduction that can’t be ignored. The music throughout the track embraces words deeply that lift the mind, and the incorporation of English and Arabic into the mix makes the track an intense cinematic state.

The track produced by NAR can be considered moody and disturbing, cutting through the noise and featuring Mazyn’s words that focus on his flaws and insecurities, taking listeners far as he battles his demons and tries to find ways out of his psychological state, and the result is a rush of feelings from a young man who accepts the duality of his nature and the ability to coexist with it in peace.

The Egyptian-Canadian hip-hop artist continues to thrill his fans around the world with his incredible talent, Mazyn began writing to overcome his homesickness, anxiety, and college stress as an Egyptian student in Canada then turned those words into songs that were recognized across Canada by CBC and Shifter Magazine, received a nomination for “Hip Hop Artist of the Year” in Ottawa by Faces magazine in 2019.

Mazyn appears in the filming of the track in black clothes, as he prepares to get out and do various things that we consider wrong, until the moment comes when he opens the trunk of his car and shows a copy of him trapped in white clothes, the video continues until you feel ambiguous, and in the end, the two characters appear with an explanation that he accepts his sides and that It is these qualities and shortcomings that make up his character.

Being honest with yourself and your ambitions and creating a motivation to keep going is Mazyn’s new track. If you’re a fan of rap and hip-hop and the lyrics affect you, you should add it to your playlist if you get a frustrating moment.

EP: Interludes by LHW

0

“Interludes” EP is the first release by LHW musician and producer (Layton H Weedeman), brought to us in 8 tracks that transport us through hip-hop, lo Fi, and soul, with a touch of jazz full of relaxing elements.

With extensive live experience and keen on creating original works, LHW is not shy about experimenting with tunes while drawing inspiration from his listening habits, especially in the classic hip-hop music of the ’90s. On the other hand, meeting guitarist Loisel Machin Rodriguez proved to be a momentous experience as it allowed LHW to showcase a subtle and funky bass line with an organic flavor.

Perhaps it is this live acoustic component that lends the “Interludes” tracks a Jazzy-like quality bolstered by the intimate piano tones that are constantly present along the tracks. The background of drumming helps to form simple but wonderful rhythms, drawing on the atmosphere of an invisible but tangible space that takes us to that magical spot that makes people dance.

A brilliant effort by American producer LHW on his first Yellow Couch Recordings, recorded in his home studio in Brooklyn, embarking on a career we’re confident we’ll see more compelling releases.

Proud by Dorian

0

From Baltimore comes Dorian. A not-so-fresh face that’s been garnering a steadily growing spot of attention over his past releases, reaching a respectable listenership on streaming services, and listening to this release, you can easily see why that is.

An arena-sized banger, full to the brim with personality and oozing with energy, ‘Proud’ is a relatively short runtime pop gem, that’s equally suited to the workout and the night drive playlists. A fast-paced song that doesn’t relent or slow down. With a throbbing synth bass, metallic-sounding drums, and a manic arpeggiator part as a backing to Dorian’s beautiful singing.

While not necessarily impressive in the range aspect, it is ear-grabbing and impressive in the timbre and control aspects. With a chest voice that goes to crazy lengths without breaking the register and phrasing that’s delicious with trails that sound distinctively oriental, matching the emotive chord progression beautifully.

This might be my introduction to Dorian’s music, but it definitely won’t be the last time I check his music out. I’ll be on the lookout for where his talents take him next.

Unseen by StarAV & venice lockjaw

0

This double feature comes to us all the way from the lands down under… Australia. When singer-songwriter StarAV stumbled upon Venice lockjaw’s music on SoundCloud and proposed an idea of a collaboration. The result is this sweet and sleepy little tune.

The first thing you’ll notice right away is an immensely compressed sound on the vocals and the guitars. While it does sound unflattering at first, as it seems to suck a lot of the soul out of the arrangement, it soon sets in and becomes a part of the sound. The composition is lush and mystical, based on a simple 2-chord part that was fingerpicked on an acoustic, then double-tracked. It does the part beautifully, without sounding overly simple or lazy, before growing and developing into further sections of the song. The voice on the second verse has a heavy and disruptive autotune effect on top which does the song a big disservice; even as autotune can be used in such a way for a certain artistic effect, I simply don’t think that it is fitting in this particular example.

A song that’s beautifully composed but modestly recorded and mixed. The final job manages to sound strongly unique and carries its own flavor. And for that it’s an enjoyable release and it makes me excited to hear what both of those artists will come up with next, hopefully with a more professional production job.

Interview With Canek

0

His passion for pop music, electronic music, and classical music also made him mix them, to produce tunes that are deep and catchy. Canek can derail real-time with his tracks.

With his new single “SEXXXsorship” the first to pave the way for his album release after the summer, he puts us in a very exciting situation. We listened to her and enjoyed and tried to learn more about it and him.

1- Hi Canek, how are you? What is your musical story?

Hi, my name is Canek. I am a singer/songwriter and music is my absolute passion in life. In fact, I have a colossal classical background: I sang in my high school choir for more than 10 years, and studied musicology in France. Nonetheless, I felt kinda trapped creatively at one point because of aesthetics and norms that you have to respect in order to execute and perform classical music accordingly. I was a classical music student with a profound love for pop music and I definitely was not encouraged to do both by the vast majority of my professors. According to me, music has no boundaries; feel free to mix music genres to find the greatest results and to discover the true power of music.

2- “SEXXXsorship” is your new single – what’s the story behind it?

SEXXXsorship is the first single of my upcoming debut album. It is a word that I invented putting the words sex and censorship together. SEXXXsorship talks about disapproval, and judgment from others when talking about things that are unfortunately still considered taboo like sex. People prefer you to be silenced, so I obey and don’t finish my sentences. I hum, I moan but I don’t say what is on my mind. I hope one day I’ll be free enough to just say whatever comes to mind. For now, I just writing a pop catchy song for you to enjoy.

3- Can you describe the songwriting and production process for this song? Who helped you create it? And when did you start working on it?

SEXXXsorship was written and composed by myself and produced by the extremely talented Italian producer Giandomenico Italiano (@giandomenico_music). It all started with an Instagram DM from him saying we should collaborate at the end of last year. I was on a train from Paris to Lyon when he sent the instrumental and I absolutely fell in love with it! The melody of the chorus came straight to my head instantly! I am obsessed with catchy hooks and melodies and I am very proud to say it is one of the best melodies that I’ve written so far. We created the song in a month. We were so excited. We knew it had something special.

4- Tell us about the artwork and how it relates to your music?

I’ve always liked to work with colors because I like to have a common theme with my art. It needs to have coherence visually and musically. I chose the red color almost immediately because it already has a connotation of lust, passion, and sex attached to it, the main theme of the song. It was an obvious choice.

5- We saw the video clip for the song and realized how wonderful it is. Tell us, how was the experience of working on it?

It was an absolute pleasure to work with my friend Baptiste Charruyer (@bapt.light), the director/photographer/editor of the music video. We agreed on keeping the red color from the beginning, and he created a sensual and cinematic atmosphere without being vulgar and obscene; that detail was very important to me. Plus the chemistry with my two boys Jérôme Meillason (@meillasson) and Tof Moissonnier (@tof_moi) was amazing from the start. I met them the day of shooting and they were so professional, respectful, and kind. I contacted them on Grindr and Instagram.

6- What are the hardest and best aspects of being an artist, since you started singing at a young age?

I definitely consider that the best aspect of being an artist is the emotional part of it, talking about mental health in particular. I’ve had to deal with depression and anxiety and music, or art in general was the healthiest way to deal with my emotions. I don’t know what I’d do without it. Therapy is a must too. I sit by the piano, I write, and I feel a little bit better. On the other hand, the hardest part for me has been that people don’t want sometimes to engage with me because I’m being too “explicit” with my sexuality or because they consider pop music not complex or interesting. Let me just say that creating a song to be stuck in your head, is not an easy task, and I’m always going to be my most authentic self, whether people like it or not.

7 – If you could change one thing in the music industry as well as society, what would it be?

Music is not numbers. Labels pay so much attention to the number of followers, streams, and Tik Tok trends before giving the artist a chance. It is not about numbers, it’s about the depth, talent, soul, and hard work present in the music. Same with society. Life is not about how many friends you have, how beautiful or rich you are. The more I grow up, the fewer friends I have and I don’t mind. I’ll stick with the good ones.

8 – You get ideas from social life and relationships. What are the biggest life lessons you have learned?

The biggest lessons that I’ve learned so far are: always put yourself first, don’t be afraid to say no, love yourself before you love others, and don’t let fear rule your life.

9 – The idea behind your song was very clear, did you hesitate to present it? And why does talking about sex remain taboo in society from your point of view?

It is always nerve-wracking cause I know that people are gonna talk about it. My mom is gonna watch it, you know? I’ve even had trouble in my past relationships cause they get jealous or whatever and I get it. I definitely hesitated because I’m being so vulnerable about my sexuality and that is always frightening. I’m letting people comment, hate, share, and report on something that is extremely close to me. Sex is still taboo because I think deep down society wants people to feel ashamed, and insecure about it. They are easier to control and influence that way. Someone that is confident sexually or in general, represents a threat and is less easy to control.

10 – For other novice artists, what is your advice for the themes and themes of their releases?

The music needs to come from an authentic place. If it resonates with you, it will resonate with others without a doubt.

11 – What do you hope your music will achieve in future releases?

Creatively, I’m kinda done for now. I’m ready to promote my music and reach thousands of people.

12- Your album will be released after the summer, we would love to hear about it even a little bit.

My album is a mix of everything: pop, urban, tropical, folk, classical, and rock. Songs in Spanish, English, and french. Is I saying: “here is everything I can do !”.

SEXXXsorship by Canek

It’s not the robot you’ll hear when you hit the play button for “SEXXXsorship”, it’s the voice of French singer-songwriter Canek, and this is his new heavyweight single that he released at the end of June.

His passion for pop and electronic music made him mix the two, producing deep, audible synth notes. Canek can derail you in real-time for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with its robotic track, and put you in the middle of a chorus filled with oohs and oohs, only to find yourself dancing as you hug your girlfriend and put your hand around her butt.

“SEXXXsorship” speaks with a psychedelic performance that rejects what others see when talking about things still considered taboo like sex, some people want to silence you, because “what happens behind closed doors, It’s about lust”, here Canek wants to get her out of there to be in the front world and everyone.

Full of rebellion, lust, excitement, dance, love, and breaking societal taboos, this track contains truly amazing moments that will make you sing it over and over again after the song ends.

SEXXXsorship – MUSIC VIDEO Directed by French filmmaker and photographer Baptiste Charruyer, Canek himself is charismatic and fits the message the song wants to convey. The hero after Canek was the color red, adding an atmosphere full of passion and lust, associated with it, the designer LSM succeeded in employing movement and dark makeup with effects of visual effects masterfully completed the image to create a cinematic atmosphere dominated by sensations, to be nothing shocking or forbidden here about it.

“SEXXXsorship” was written, composed, and produced by Canek and produced by Italian producer Giandomenico Italiano, and if that’s not enough for you, wait for the full album to come out later this summer. So try to enjoy it and its warm atmosphere.

Interview With Georgia Hoareau

What do you hope listeners will gain from your music?

I just hope people can relate to my songs in some form. I just want people to feel like they have someone who feels the same way they do.

What encouraged you to pursue music professionally?

I’ve always thought I would be involved in the arts in some way or another, and music is something I’ve always been passionate about. I always thought it was an unattainable dream but honestly seeing other people my age do well and succeed in the industry made me want to give it a go.

Some people find it hard to write lyrics, so seasoned artists use techniques like a collage to come up with them. From what I can hear, your words flow seamlessly with the music. Is there a particular writing method or approach you use?

I almost always start with a lyric or an idea of what I want to write about. Then I sit at the piano or with my guitar and write the chords to match my melody. I just go line by line. If I don’t do that, I’ll write a poem randomly or save random things I see or thoughts I record in my notes, then I’ll refer back to them when I’m writing a song. There’s no real formula.

What are the main ways that artists like Amy Whinehouse and Rex Orange County have influenced your work?

I love both Amy Winehouse’s and Rex Orange County’s writing. I’m just a fan of them both! Amy’s voice is amazing, so I definitely look to her for the way she sang, and Rex Orange County really inspires my lyrics, song structure, and his arrangements are really cool.

I recall when I was 17 and musicians like Mac Demarco and, later on, Declan Mckenna was helping bedroom pop gain more prominence in the mainstream. As a member of Gen Z, how do you believe the genre has changed as a result of a new wave of musicians entering the scene? Are the feel and sound comparable to what it formerly used to be?

I think this next wave of bedroom pop is perhaps more polished and produced than it lets on to be and less low budget and lo-fi, which is still cool. Artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams are writing amazing songs in their bedrooms, I guess what changed is the process after that and the production that goes into the final release.

As far as I can gather, you were still in school when you released your debut single, ’17.’ How did your classmates and friends react?

Yes, I was still in high school when I released ‘17’ and I wrote my second single ‘Therapy’ prior to that when I was 16.  It was cool being at school and random kids from other grades would come up and say they liked my song. Other than that, my friends were just pretty happy for me that I was getting to do what I wanted to do.

Are there any other instruments you play besides vocals?

I play piano and a bit of guitar. I write with both instruments but mainly the piano.

GIRL by Georgia Hoareau

Georgia Hoareau, a bedroom-pop artist based in Australia, marks her return after her February release “Therapy” with her brand-new bittersweet single “GIRL.” Just a year earlier, Georgia was only a high school student when she began recording and producing her songs in Brisbane’s Head Atlas – Hunting Ground Studios with Brisbane producer Joel Myles (Jack Bratt, Harry J Hart, Clint Boggs). The result of the collaboration was “17,” her debut track, which was released in October 2021 and received airplay on Triple J’s Unearthed High and Unearthed radio broadcasts. It was with the release of this single that her compositional and singing talents were first recognized. “Therapy,” her second single, was released in February 2022 to widespread praise. Georgia is currently working on her debut EP, which she plans to release by the end of August 2022.

Steeped with teen anguish and mellow synths, “GIRL” narrates the age-old tale of young love coming abruptly to an end. Yet, unlike other contemporary contemplative breakup power ballads, it adopts a more sympathetic tone that offers hope to all of us heartbroken souls.

Georgia’s powerful vocals serve as the ideal focal point for a backdrop of mellow synths; they pierce through the melody with deep, striking tones, which yields more definition and character to the song. The compassionately delicate theme of the song captures the anguish of falling apart and the need to rebuild from the ensuing wreckage in a way that resonates with most people.

Lips by Kaisa Rya

Kaisa Rya is a current music student, based in Hamburg, Germany who just started releasing her music this year. She’s a solo artist who loves to perform with a varying number of her friends who are also music students from Hamburg, with the main instruments being drums, bass, guitar, and backing vocals.  The up-and-coming artist released two singles earlier this year “Nothing” and “Ego”; in no time her songs and vibe have gained the liking of the audience with ‘Ego’ reaching over 50K views on YouTube and over 8K streams on Spotify. At the same time, “Nothing” reached over 2K streams on Spotify too. Her main influences are the infamous Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars. She has also performed a solo show at Planten un Blomen MusikPavillion.

Rya drops her third single “Lips” and it’s not any less attractive if not even more. Kaisa has a special performing style with lots of edginess in character and an assertive attitude which shows in her choice of beats, sound effects used, and vocal style. The song is fun, and upbeat, and will surely make you swing those hips and dance the night away, I can imagine the song playing in a club and setting the dance floor on fire with its epic beat. The lyrics were inspired by the artist’s love life when her boyfriend told her that he didn’t love her and yet his actions stated otherwise so after a long time being torn, she finally reached a conclusion and that’s when she came up with the song. she emphasizes the importance of reading body language and how it is always important to listen to one’s inner voice and let It guide you. “Lips” was recorded in the Melloton Studios in Hamburg, with Jan-Philipp Kelber on vocal production, Joachim Schlüter on mixing and mastering, and Julian Seiler on production and arrangement. Another song to add to your summer playlist, don’t miss it!

Static Ft. ELMNT by Sarafin

After the success of last year’s single release “Kick Rocks” which reached over 13K streams on Spotify, Sarafin releases his first single this year “Static” featuring ELMNT which has special compositions, and unpredictable elements, and a vibe of its own. The Canadian-based artist has long years of experience in making music, 16 years to be exact yet he only started releasing it on platforms and sharing it with the audience to appreciate in 2019 by releasing his debut single ‘Hold Up’. He is highly influenced by his surroundings and the conditions he’s in while working on his songs; so, each of his songs will have a certain ambiance and vibe that is reflected by what he’s going through. Sarafin has recently performed ‘Static’ among other singles of his at ‘The Palace Theatre’ in Alberta for Sled Island which takes place every June, where he was the opening act for Princess Nokia.

‘Static’ starts with a smooth, chill guitar intro accompanied by a keyboard chord progression inspired by Jazz and Blues tunes. You’d expect the song to last in that direction, but it throws you off with rap vocals and a steady beat to keep it all in place. I found the mixing of rap and jazzy moods innovative and surely unusual, yet you start losing the jazzy feel along the way and the stacking of lines gets blurry leaving the rap vocals the focus of the song with synths supporting and occasional bass. The lyrics are about Sarafin discussing his adolescence and how it affected his future; he describes what his home environment was like and refers to his family and what they were doing then, I found the topic discussed interesting and essential that a lot of people might relate to. The song was produced by Junia-T and the guitar line by J Grooves.
