Thief by EMILY NICOLE GREEN

0

You are out there, doing your daily tasks, and then Emily Nicole Green’s “Thief” gets you off guard and takes you on an intense emotional rollercoaster that you might not be ready for. Nevertheless, once you delve into the heartfelt ballad, you’ll gladly play it over and over again.

“Thief” is a haunting Americana ballad that will stir your heart from start to finish. With the heart-shattering storytelling and moving genre blend, we witness Green’s magnificent talents as a singer and songwriter. The New York-based artist is a late bloomer who had to drop music for quite a time and come back stronger in 2019, and since then she’s been pouring her heart and soul into her music, making genuine, personal, and touching pieces.

The thing about this song is that it’s emotionally charged, and with every note, you get to feel and embrace these raw emotions and find vulnerability embodied through each element. The mastered ballad is about abandonment, by someone who meant a lot to us and by ourselves in response, instead of going easy on our wounded souls. However, it’s not one of these songs that makes its characters appear like villains; instead, the lyrics showcase the complexity of human nature and how we are all not one-sided. I admired how the ache in the lyrics didn’t overpower the sincerity and realism, but the centerpiece here can’t be the lyrics; it’s definitely the mesmerizing vocals.

If you have well-written lyrics but no good vocal delivery, then the listener won’t feel the ache you’re trying to describe. With Green’s vocals, you get to feel the pain in your core and feel like it’s your own experience, even if it’s not relatable. On the other hand, if it is relatable, you’ll feel heard and acknowledged. Her soulful vocals are simply addictive! She makes every lyric resonate, offering the sound of a bleeding heart. Along with Green’s astonishing vocal performance, the instruments delicately cry in their own way. Although the vocals instantly grab attention, they let the instrumentation shine and harmonize along. The sentimental piano, the passionate strings, and the soft percussion are all intimate, well-backdropping the ethereal voice and delivering the heartbreak in the most soothing manner.

I think this sums up why you’ll play the song over and over. The beautiful, blended ballad of Americana, Folk, Jazz, and Pop spread a warm ray of light in a dark, hurtful situation. Wait for the upcoming EP, “Outrunning the Animal,” on October 30th to enjoy more of Emily Nicole Green’s authentic musicianship.

The Times We Had by INGMAR KING

0

Ingmar King, the Boston-based artist just released his single “The Times We Had”…a very cinematic pop entry that sounds bigger than life…

“The Times We Had” is a cinematic opus, it transcends the concept of a pop song in almost all aspects…musically, it blends aspects of the soundtrack, a musical play, and a pop song all together to make something…unreal, an epic musical experience.

The song starts focusing on Ingmar’s mountainous gritty vocals that can reach soaring highs, along with a very emotional piano-centric approach…only to keep building up till the ending part…

…oh the ending part of “The Times We Had”… takes you to the realm of the greats, like Queen…the song exploded in a very huge sounding magnum opus of electric guitars, drums, and a huge orchestral bang.

Ingmar is an absolute game changer, he’s a disruptor…he changes the playing field…and he’s winning big on his own musical terms.

Ingmar’s vocals are a sight…to be heard, an absolute vocal monster that can literally play and convey any emotion with his voice…his range is…everything.

Ingmar’s vocal mojo is like an IMAX cinema intro…it can take you from the drop of a needle to the thunderous roars of jet planes…it does.

The song also drops with a music video…on par with the musicality of the song, the video has absolutely high levels of production quality…and a very emotional story, it’s akin to a short movie, or a movie for a song that encapsulates the whole story and puts it into song and music video form. An amazing feat.

With a background in musical studies at Berklee College of Music, he challenged himself to create a song in 10 minutes…then turned into an hour…then it turned into “The Times We Had”.

Thank you Ingmar for this epic musical novel…we wish Ingmar all the best in life… Can’t wait to see what’s next for the amazing artist.

Cheers!

Found My Way Here by RACHEL DAVIE LEE

0

This latest offering from singer and songwriter Rachel Davie Lee takes the shape of a lilting piano ballad loaded with poignant imagery and with a minimal arrangement that’s immediately heartfelt, smooth, and sweet to the senses.

The Virgin Islands-based artist Rachel Davie Lee has a recognizable voice and way of delivery that is effortless, silken, and unique. On her latest single, the minimalist piano ballad ‘Found My Way Here’, Rachel Davie Lee uses the delicate fingers of pianist Brent Hoyle to lay down the deep and graceful piano part on which Rachel sings her part about what she has learned about time through her life’s journey. Comforting and poignant, Found My Way Here’s simplicity to words and music is what sells the piece from the ex-compliance officer turned RnB artist.

Colorful and gentle, ‘Found My Way Here’ is a delightfully simple piece of music that’s boiled down to its bare bones, and in this stripping down we get to experience the song’s true heart, and we get to experience Rachel’s fragile voice, so full of soul, Hoyle’s sure-footed chords, and the wholly soothing words of this elegant little single.

Ocean Blue by RAY JOHNSON

0

For an incredibly warm and buoyant piece of soft/folk rock, we have a delightfully intimate cut from Roy Johnson’s brand-new full-length studio offering; ‘Ocean Blue’ from his 3rd album ‘Appealing To Angels’.

A singer and songwriter who calls Saint Charles, Illinois home, Ray Johnson’s previous songs covered by Sistra have all been immediate darlings to us. Blending a simplistic, straight-to-heart songwriting approach with thought-provoking lyrics, warm, usually minimal arrangements, and this time with booming, deep-hitting bass, ‘Ocean Blue’ is a delight to listen to on hi-fi sub-woofers.

Moreover, the song’s silky acoustic guitar strums, matched with a commandeering, tambourine-led beat create a flowery atmosphere that would call any campfire in the English Midlands, mid-70s and surrounded by peace-loving hippies home. Johnson’s melodic vocals are direct and feature a particular honesty to their delivery that far outmatches his somewhat limited range, making the singing very easy to fall for.

‘Ocean Blue’ quickly joined the rest of Ray’s music that we were easily smitten by. This peaceful piece of acoustic Americana, touching on folk and with a hint of soft rock thrown in for good measure is a soothing piece of music that further establishes Johnson as a capable songwriter and arranger who just knows how to spin an accessible melody on top of heartfelt chords.

Soldier by STACEY JACKSON

0

London-based singer and songwriter Stacey Jackson returns to stun us with an inspiring accompaniment video to her latest single, the anthemic ‘Soldier’.

Returning from immediate successes, Stacey Jackson’s ‘Flipside’ and ‘Urgent’ were hits that we loved and still cherish to this day. So, when it was announced that her upcoming chapter would be led by the studio album ‘Super Woman’ we were rightfully excited to see how she would follow those hits. Enter ‘Soldier’, Jackson’s first taster of what ‘Super Woman’ would be like… and consider us pleased.

Jackson continues to fearlessly show off her admiration for the colorful 80s. With an arrangement blaring with bold synths and a gold-hued video club to match the boldness, ‘Soldier’ comes across as an essentially confident and reassured piece of music. This confidence is mirrored in the song’s inspirational lyrics calling for every one of us to stand up for our own selves and be our own soldiers in this life’s battles. Stacey delivers her lyrics with a simplistic, easy-to-follow melody, on top of a similarly simple harmonic structure that is not devoid of tasty and challenging vocal chops that showcase what Jackson is capable of as a singer while remaining approachable and dripping with pop appeal, especially so with the arena-sized synths and banging machine-gun beats.

Soldier’s appeal lies in its reassured stance and confidence in performance, topics, imagery, and production. A wholly expert-grade offering that says quite loudly that Stacey Jackson would be following earlier successes with even more terrific music on Super Woman.

Album: One Drop Of Kindness by YUNGCHEN LHAMO

0

For those of us not familiar with the name and history of Yungchen Lhamo, One Drop of Kindness will sound like an eclectic collection of exotic, far eastern sounds with a vibrant energy that resonates throughout its core. Lhamo’s music is near impossible to categorize, and perhaps labeling it as “world” music would be playing it a little too safe. Indeed, for the first Tibetan singer to sign a major record deal, and after a two-and-a-half-decade career and with more than 80 countries worldwide toured, Yungchen Lhamo’s healing voice and meandering arrangements are musical forces exquisitely harnessed by an expert team of audio engineers and artists and a stellar vision from the singer herself. The brilliant ‘One Drop of Kindness’ is an unforgettable experience.

Based in the historic upstate New York town of Kingston, Lhamo’s roots are deeply planted in Lhasa, Tibet, whose given name was given to her at birth by a Tibetan Lama, meaning ‘goddess of melody’. Lhamo’s illustrious career has seen her join forces with globally renowned artists such as Bono and Annie Lennox and has seen her perform in the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall, and knowing all of this might get you a little more prepared to experience her music. Profoundly spiritual and deeply peaceful, Lhamo says that she sings to heal and to transform the lives of her listeners to the better, and with her visceral performances and warm, silken deliveries, it is safe to say that her voice is the driving instrument in most of the pieces on One Drop of Kindness.

For an album that’s targeted at the lovers of ethnic timbres and the musical time travelers among us, this collection of songs excels at being worldly and wholly accessible for all lovers of heartfelt, meaningful sound. Lhamo successfully incorporates familiar beats on numbers such as ‘Overcoming Obstacles’ and lilting piano line on the graceful ballad ‘Awakening Through Sound’, while effortlessly navigating the wholly ethnic soundscapes of cuts such as ‘Sound Healing’ the opening track, the jubilant and warm ‘Perfect Compassion’, the wistful ambience of ‘Being Courageous’, and the invigorating closer ‘Dream Song’- making all those cuts perfectly compelling and giving them an immediate pull. ‘Dedication to My Teacher’ is a stunning bridge between two worlds, blending resonant, ethnic percussion with a sweet, melancholic chord progression that’s familiar and easy to fall for, making the cut a one of a kind on the album with a healthy ascent in dynamics that reaches a heaving crescendo dripping with potent emotion. ‘Being Courageous’ is another particularly stunning affair. As the longest cut on the record, this wistful and barren soundscape populated mostly with wailing strings and Lhamo’s serene vocal acrobatics is entirely compelling and perfectly catching to the senses throughout its near 7-minute runtime.

Co-produced by John Alevizakis at Little Buddha Studios in the secluded Californian Sierra Nevada forested slopes, the sound of the album generously captures the artist’s wholly unique sound and vision, as well as her sublimely rich musical, artistic, and cultural heritage in its modest, 7-song collection in which Lhamo delivers a wealth of musical ideas that are varied and are consistently executed with grace and with an artistic flair fitting for a global star such as herself. One Drop of Kindness is a wonderful experience from start to finish, and is one of the most honest and easy to love albums that I’ve had the pleasure of writing about throughout 2023.

GIVE IT TO YA! by ARYAN KAPOOR

0

Aryan Kapoor’s “GIVE IT TO YA!” is the Hip-Hop gem you’ve been searching for. The song conjures up spirited nostalgia along with contemporary execution, which authentically makes it easily appeal to any genre fan. The sound is dope, but that is not the only thing about the song; each element is structured to get you to know Kapoor as an artist and to fall for the song.

The thing about this number is that sometimes when everyone is trying to be unique, all becomes the same, and the same happens when musicians try to craft a hit, so somehow, they produce repetitive outputs. The Indian by blood, born in Dubai, and currently LA-based Aryan Kapoor, on the other hand, is making sure to drop genuine music that reflects his own artistic identity, and “GIVE IT TO YA!” serves as a great testimony.

“GIVE IT TO YA!” demonstrates Kapoor’s musical prowess, his knack for gathering groovy musicality, and introspective lyricism. The levitating beats will entice you to dance wherever you are, but, at the same time, the charismatic vocal delivery with his silky voice in the chorus and his natural flow of every verse will make you pay attention to every lyric and to the point Aryan is driving through the vibrant song.

The beauty of the song is that it sounds so familiar yet fresh and glamorous. You get to enjoy feeling nostalgic for something you don’t know, but you just feel its warmth. As well as feeling boosted from head to toe. As Aryan put it, “It’s a love letter to the early 2000s. An attempt to capture the feeling of nostalgia for an era you weren’t a part of.”

LA-based producer TY polished the track, produced the infectious beats that highlighted Aryan’s skills, and made every ingredient noteworthy. The chorus alone will make you want to repeat the song over and over again, singing along and vibing.

Do I need to keep going? Hit the play button and let loose with the chilling rhythms, and the song will take you to its realm of retro-futuristic mixture.

The Wailers by MAN WITH A CORDUROY HEART

0

Man With A Corduroy Heart’s soothing Folk lullaby “The Wailers” is the song you can sing to your baby to get them to sleep, or hear it yourself and enjoy its serenity.

“The Wailers” is the debut song for the musical project Man With A Corduroy Heart. The musician and audio engineer Ryan Davies is the skilled man behind this act. Once you hear the song, you’ll witness Davies’ musical prowess demonstrated through every little detail and the confident decision to make the song raw and tied together with organic production.

“I wanted it to be really organic and do one-takes, embrace unwanted noise, go back to using cassettes, and let the song do the work rather than the mix,” said Davies, and that’s exactly what he masterfully delivered.

The jazzy guitar chords start off the song, and a dreamy mood is set right away. Soon the vocals join in, creating an atmospheric harmony with the instrumentation. The vocal line is subtle for a lullaby; it has a warm layer with a delightful aura, which plants peace and pleasantness in your heart.

The mixture of Folk, Americana, and Lo-fi, along with the Bob Marley inspiration, gives a lighthearted ambiance, which makes the song suitable for every time you want to calm yourself or someone down. The ethereal vocals lure one into the dreamy soundscape weaved by every tender note, along with the hypnotizing guitar playing and the steady percussion.

The tenderhearted lyricism fits perfectly with the smooth musical fabric and the melodic vocal delivery. Each lyric bursts with the pure love of parenthood, and the sincere performance lets you know for sure that this writing is right from the heart.

The song isn’t what you’d call a hit, but it’s simply effective at stirring your heart. This is the song you want to sing to your baby, because who wouldn’t love to tell their child “Our little baby face brings out the sun”?

Album: How Not To Drown by ROTHSTEIN

0

A new musical wave has arrived in the pop world…

…all thanks to Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Rothstein with his latest album “How Not To Drown”.

From the very second, we know we’re in for a sonic treat…a special musical experience is knocking at the door.

Literally, the first track is an intro track to the album, titled “Owner’s Manual”…and it does set the expectation of being in the presence of greatness. It’s 1 minute 12 seconds of mesmerizing musicality that sucks us into the new pop world that Rothstein has created.

…this takes us directly to the second track “No Balconies In Vegas” which actually came out with a music video…a very artistic video, with Hollywood quality levels of production values.

This album is a very diverse album…I can’t even say it’s just straightforward pop…actually, no…with some songs that break any mold…like “Pushover”…with its 80s synth-pop direction…it’s not what you’d expect from this album…especially since it has some of the most futuristic pop sounds and musical experiences you’ll hear now.

The album is dark with melancholy within its musicality…as this album is about the worst of the artist that remains…but he’s changing, both on a human level and on an artist level.

The album continues to explore different approaches to mesmerizing pop experiences with tracks like “How Not To Drown”, with its folk guitar-focused approach, the ambient and choir backing vocals of “Love You Like I Do” with huge brass sections and “Hold Onto Me” with its orchestral elements…

Rothstein literally created a musical world like never before…that is why his album “How Not To Drown” is a highly recommended musical experience not just for the pop fan, but to any fan of good music…this is a mesmerizing experience that is full, rich and epic on so many levels.

The album has 13 tracks to explore, live in, sleep to, wake up to, spend days with…and just be transported to an amazing musical place that is out of this world.

I wish Rothstein all the best in all of his endeavors…we can’t wait to see how he changes the soundscapes of the music world once again…it’s going to be brilliant.

Cheers!

It’s Your World by ECHEZONA

0

From time to time, we get caught up in our daily hustles, forgetting the importance of having healthy relationships where we can be vulnerable and have transparency, love, and support that are enough to heal our dark sides. Echezona decided to remind us of that through light waves of Afropop and Hip-Hop, along with shiny R&B and dreamy Pop, in his latest drop, “It’s Your World.”

“I got folks who are no longer with us simply for feeling like they could not turn to anyone to ease their pain. The title of the song is a phrase used to commemorate a fallen loved one where I am from and in many other neighborhoods. I called the song “It’s Your World” to flip the narrative and say it to folks I have while they are still alive to hear it,” Echezona stated.

“It’s Your World” is the fruit of a collaboration between vocalist and lyricist Echezona and producer and music composer JPRiZM, which marks their ninth collab. Both of them brought a fresh flavor to the number with their talents and skills. The heartfelt lyrics and smooth vocals intend to stir your heart, and the upbeat musicality stirs your body.

The inspirational song is filled with positive energy and vibrancy within every element of it, which gets you hooked instantly and ready to dance with its peppy rhythms while embracing the message. The beats are both spirited and graceful, which captures the theme’s essence best. The magical blend of genres built an irresistible soundscape that you’ll get lost in its colorful harmonies for a while. The silky vocal line flows seamlessly, making each lyric deeply felt, and skillfully strikes a balance between the tender storyline and the energetic beats. And all of these elements are polished by top-notch production.

This can be a love song if you want to, and it also means much more than that. It conveys the importance of human connections of all kinds. Enjoy grooving along while starting to seek genuine connections. It’s all up to you: “It’s your world. I just live in it.”
