Tipping Point by GRACE & MOJI

0

We are about to embark on a personal, intimate journey with the married indie duo Grace & Moji’s third and latest single, “Tipping Point.” The touching journey is filled with raw emotions that are conveyed through every element. Take a deep breath and prepare yourself to be immersed in this emotionally charged masterpiece’s aesthetics.

Graceful guitar chords open “Tipping Point,” and it soon gets joined by Moji’s warm, hazy vocals to initiate the journey where we are a part of such a tense story. They take turns telling their side of the story, so Grace enters next with dulcet, silky vocals, and then they both sing the chorus with a soul-stirring performance. The beauty of the dual vocal delivery is that it captures the song’s entire theme as it conveys a relationship “on the verge of falling” yet a hope that “things can be different.” Each performance sounds melancholic and vulnerable, while in the chorus when their vocals unite, power and hope seamlessly burst through their heart-melting singing.

The vocals are surely the center of attention; however, the musical composition plays a key role in delivering the emotional complexity and the ups and downs of the story. You need to know that this is Grace and Moji’s personal experience, which is palpable through the sincerity of the song, and even the instrumentation demonstrates that. The acoustic-driven folk/rock melodies offer the pain, the uncertainties, and the hope of overcoming the struggles. As the song progresses, we witness a dramatic guitar playing that aligns with the passionate vocal delivery, and that’s where the musicality’s strength lies in the moving simplicity.

I can’t wrap up without mentioning another two significant ingredients, which are the heartfelt lyrics and the smooth storytelling, as they enhance the getting-involved listening experience. As well as the artistic music video that nailed capturing the essence of the song through each piece of footage. Grace & Moji have not only outdone themselves in their new audible releases but also their remarkable visuals.

Quite a journey, right? It’s an epic one, indeed. You don’t want to miss it.

Higher Ground by FIREBIRD UNION

0

Firebird Union is a brand new musical project, consisting of the two brothers Ross and Matt Churchill, who have an ocean separate between them, yet the waves of music bond them. Hailing from London and Los Angeles, the duo released their debut single, “Higher Ground,” bringing to the scene a fresh sound that has a strong ‘90s hint seamlessly mashing with contemporary flair.

“Higher Ground” is the song where every element is so full of life, which is ironic as the song’s theme is the apocalypse and how we are running out of time. You’ll find yourself in this apocalyptic realm, singing along with the hooking chorus, “Where are you gonna stay when there’s nowhere left?” The bombastic song starts with a chaotic, buzzy intro, announcing something electrifying on its way. What comes next is structured to get you grooving, even if it’s the end of time. All of the components show the brothers’ musical prowess as they work together to craft an atmospheric soundscape. The playful bassline, the lush synth, the dynamic percussion, and the entire swirling rhythm all urge one to engage and vibe.

The vocals offer nostalgia and futuristic flavors along with both a bright and profound ambiance, creating funky waves along with the composition and making every verse planted in your head. It’s such a charismatic performance of resonating voices where there are haunting male vocals and dulcet female vocals that join in the chorus.

All of that is tied together with dope production, which polishes every ingredient and adds more colors to the vivid canvas. As a debut song, the duo demonstrated their musicianship, and each one brought their best qualities to the project as they both had their musical paths before founding Firebird Union.

If you are fond of indietronica, Firebird Union is your way to go, and if the world is ending, “Higher Ground” is your song for the scene.

With mixed organic influences and a unique sound, the NY-based duo Silk Sewn Dream are back with their new single Pull That String on the 5th of August 2023, and today we’re going to dig deep into it.

Silk Sewn Dream made it very clear that Pull That String is a dreamy chill piece right from the very first note. It starts off with some subtle atmospheric guitar work, deep mysterious bass, and intimidating mood-setting vocals before the drums step in to shake the flow with jazzy touches. Silk Sewn Dream engaged in a beautifully mellow flow with psychedelic vibes that keep you moving with its clever progression, at the same time they didn’t compromise their sound. Pull That String pushes forward sonically and dynamically, mixing elements of psychedelic and progressive rock with an R&B groove and sound signature, all powerfully supported by a perfect guitar tone and some amazing guitar work that technically controlled the song’s mood and ending with a killer solo that came at the best timing.

Pull That String is a solid single by Silk Sewn Dream that shows their brilliant writing, well-knowledge of their sound and direction which appears clearly in the song’s layering and detailed production. Looking forward to more from Silk Sewn Dream, keep on rocking guys. Cheers!

All As One Song Review by Brother Sea

0

Drawing inspiration from “being a passionate supporter of the Scotland Rugby Team” as described by lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Kristian Lannen, Scottish Celtic folk fusion band Brother Sea dropped their single All As One showing their full support of their national team. Released in aid of the My Name’5 Doodie Foundation, All As One is a charity single that can easily gather the team’s supporters around its uplifting sound and enthusiastic mood-boosting vibes. Let me tell you more about it.

Brother Sea opened their anthem All As One with warm acoustic guitars and folky violins, creating a natural deeply emotional setup for such an intimate tune. All As One has a lovely engaging flow with beautiful, well-arranged instrumentation that produces a stream of heart-hitting melodies in an extremely smooth flow, unifying the band and listeners emotionally in an unbreakable bond. Brother Sea cleverly crafted All As One‘s structure, creating a chill flow that’s dynamic and catchy at the same time, adding to its engaging vibes that had me singing my lungs out along with them at the end.

All As One is a solid touching tune with a powerful progressing sound and a fluid crescendo that smoothly floats towards a bigger sound. Its multi-layered production was handled very well, giving each element the needed space to be fully heard and digested by the listener and to cause the desired emotional impact. Looking forward to more from Brother Sea, I’ll always remember this tune whenever I come across a rugby game. Cheers!

The Loop by Birds Are Better

0

Birds Are Better released their single “The Loop” on the 7th of this September, along with a music video…this is a very imaginative musical experience…

“The Loop” is the second single from the upcoming album of Norway based Birds Are Better, the album is titled “The Island – Part II”.

The song talks about love, loss, betrayal and…space travel…because firstly, why not? secondly…life is a journey that is no easier than space travel…it’s a journey of discovery and exploration. That’s how I see it at least.

“The Loop” is a very chill and relaxing folk/pop song with strong sonic and visual elements to tell a story.

Folk guitar shares the spotlight with the silkiest of smooth vocals…with some backing vocals that adds to the richness of the sound and the overall emotional experience.

The vocals melodies are soul-soothing…add the space-focused music video and you’re transported to the far reaches of Earth’s space.

Stian Fjelldal is the brains and talents behind Birds Are Better…and he’s been creating music for so long, he made huge projects, cut a deal with Warner Music and so much more…

…but then he asked himself a very important question “What kind of music do you want to make?”…and that birthed Birds Are Better…this simple, yet life changing question made the dominoes effect that took Stian to this realization…and we’re glad that he asked that question…

“The Loop” is an explorative journey into life itself…it’s relaxing, it’s eye opening and it’s absolutely gorgeous with mesmerizing musical production and lyrical approach…

“The Loop” is a highly recommended experience for anyone who listens to music in general…it’s a must.

Wishing Stian and Birds Are Better all the best in his personal and musical lives…we can’t wait to experience his upcoming album “The Island – Part II” when it comes out.

Cheers!

EP: Element by DOMAX

0

London based musician under the moniker DOMAX has been releasing music since April 2022…and now, he’s releasing his latest EP “Element”…an electro sonic realm that keeps expanding, both musically and imaginatively…it’s a world of wonder.

DOMAX has worked with some established names in the scene, including Sister Sledge/ Incognito/Emile Sande and others…he’s also a guitar player for the band The Streets.

With no limits on his creativity, DOMAX doesn’t have a ceiling, or a musical area that is off limits to his creativity…everything is within reach, he can reach to any element in the sonic realm…and create with it.

“Element” started as a demo for a live show, but then it took a life on its own…and we’re glad to hear that…but we also wonder, ‘how would it have been in a live context?’

I mean, the visual embodiment of DOMAX’s music could be an epic world of color and light…maybe we’ll see that realized by the artist in an upcoming project? Crossing our fingers.

“Element” is an EP with 4 tracks under its belt…

All the tracks share the world of electro, but each with its own charisma and unique musical character…

…like the EP starts with “Chrome”…a hard hitting electro track…fast paced, in your face while containing some ambient melodies and experiences that adds some storytelling elements to the overall energetic experience.

Moving unto the second track, the EP title track, “Element” takes it easy on us, takes the energy down a notch and adds more elements that will take us for a spin in a new electro experience…the beats are strong, the ambient soundscapes are rich, full and creates a wall of sound…the melodies are experimental and futuristic.

…the third track “Dlr” does two amazing things…firstly, it pushes the boundaries of the trippy electro and fuses it with strong melodic presence…the locomotive here is the bass and beats, while the melodies are a byproduct of all the moving sounds of this musical experience…

Reaching “Lotus” would mark the fourth and last track in this mesmerizing electro world…and it’s the type of track that you’d find on the dance floor, it’s more dancy, its less experimental and more about moving your body…and it does it with ease, we couldn’t keep still while listening to “Lotus”…

“Element” is an EP that pushes musical boundaries, while still having a strong commercial presence with its last track.

We wish DOMAX all the best and can’t wait to hear his upcoming works…and hopefully experience his live performance in all of its glory.

Cheers!

I’ve been finding myself getting sucked into the bedroom pop world for some time now…

…I find myself there, my emotions gets out and roam freely when listening to it…and now I’ve found my favourite song to spend days with…it’s Nadia Vaeh’s “Friends U Couldn’t Keep”.

This is the latest single from the LA based artist.

…and this song comes out of a life experience, an experience that lasted 2 years…this is the time it took for this song to get written and come out…

“Friends U Couldn’t Keep” talks about fake friends and how to make peace with ending this fake relationship…there’s always a ‘wake up’ moment, and this is it.

Move forward…keep on dreaming, keep on living…great things await, keep the real friends close. Only the real ones.

The song is focused on a super catchy and accessible guitar riff with the vocals taking center stage…with some brilliant back vocals too…and mid-way, the song’s emotional curve takes a huge sounding cinematic shift with some big rises and snare hits…

The little element of clapping adds so much to the density and the depth of the emotional energy of this track..

“Friends U Couldn’t Keep” is a magnum opus of bedroom pop…

This is one of highly recommended songs and not just pop…it’s a song that almost anyone could relate to instantly…and with its catchy melodies and production, it’s an instant hit.

“Friends U Couldn’t Keep” is written by Nadia Vaeh & Dion Shaw

Produced by Tyler Spratt & Nadia Vaeh

Album: Boombap for Boomers by Lewca

0

If you’re looking for a unique and fun sound, then I think that’s the album for you. Lewca is a France-based, multi-talented artist with a background in fine arts and film, who decided to pursue his passion for music. After years of being part of different bands, the artist decided to go solo and build a name for himself with his influential, original, and varied sound. Throughout his career, he collaborated with several artists, producers, and musicians, yet one of them stood out; S.O.A.P (aka Son of A Pitch), who is a Parisian DJ and beatmaker.

Lewca just released his latest album: “Boombap for Boomers,” in collaboration with S.O.A.P. who produced the album and composed most of it.  It is the 2nd part of a two-set album that succeeds “Friday Night Rockstars” released earlier in 2022.

The 13 tracks are a fusion of genres and styles, coming into one to create an authentic and incredibly unique sound. It’s highly influenced by the ’90s sound, with lots of synths, disco vibes, pop, and rap. Knowing the artist’s musical influences, it makes sense to have this blended sound, as he is inspired by The Clash, The Streets, Ian Dury, ASAP Rocky, the Sleaford Mods, LCD, Soundsystem, Bob Dylan, Eminem, Tom Waits, and “Whoever is making decent music”. Says Lewca. You will listen to piano jazz tunes in “Day Job ft. Mick Swagger,” electronic, trance-like sounds like in “Life, innit?” and cool bass guitar tunes like in “I Got It All.” It really does have it all. “This album has had input from Ben Samama, John Michie, and Orange G, as well as guest vocalists Mondo Trasho, Victory Flow, and Oh! Paulo.” Says Lewca

As abstract as it seems, if you listen carefully, you’ll find it sequenced and well-curated. Simply put, the album is fun, light, unconventional, and quick on its feet, surely not to be missed.

Love & Light Album Review by Tom Speight

0

After the success of his first two records, the British singer/songwriter Tom Speight dropped his third record Love & Light on the 11th of August 2023 via Nettwerk Music. Mixing his diverse influences with his own unique touch, Speight is about to take the British scene by storm. Let me tell you more about it.

Tom Speight opened Love & Light with the colorful melodies and swaying flow of Trick of the Light. It has an easy-going uplifting mood that instantly clicks with the listeners, boosting their mood with his warm guitars, engaging harmonies, and inviting full-of-life vocals. Amazing opener that made me want to dig deeper into the record. Starting with touching piano and subtle cello, Wonderful Wonder slightly steers into a more chill slower sound. It smoothly progresses moving forward towards a bigger sound as Speight adds layers and elements to his solid well-crafted mix, producing a beautifully arranged piece that draws a wide smile upon the listeners’ faces. The One shows a pop-ish catchy side of Tom Speight‘s writing, adding a new flavor to the record’s mix. It has a catchy irresistible vocal melody with a beautiful harmonic conversation within a laidback flow that smoothly carries the listener throughout its flowing melodic mix as Speight freely mixes and matches electronic elements with his modern folky sound, offering a unique approach in an extremely neat production. Let Go picks its predecessor’s vibes up and builds upon it, opening with a sweet hooking melody that instantly grabs the listeners’ attention. It has a breezy spacious sound that’s pretty approachable by a wide range of audiences, I believe if it had the proper marketing would boost the record, gaining Tom Speight a wider fanbase. As we get closer to the center of Love & Light, If This Is How The Story Ends invites us into new territory with its soothing arpeggios and heart-hitting subtle piano, it has a warm soothing flow driven by a dreamy vocal melody offering a resting point within the record’s overall dynamic flow and showing another side of Speight‘s influences. The title track Love & Life keeps up with If This Is How The Story Ends’ pace, setting up a soft floating mood with a deeply touching sound that slowly creates a relaxing sound making it a perfect tune to start your day with. Things start to get moving again with Beautiful Feeling, as it kickstarts with some authentic folky violins before it engages in a fluid organic progression leading to a catchy chorus. It seamlessly takes us on a swaying dynamic journey with some enjoyable dynamic ups and downs that easily keep the listeners hooked and entertained. Tomorrow comes next with mesmerizing vocal layering and epic orchestrations, forging an escalating multi-layered structure with streaming melodies and a haunting progression. Lydia Claw‘s remarkable vocals introduced another dimension of Tom Speight‘s music on Aftermath and Escape, adding a deep extra layer to the songs’ emotional sound as she perfectly handled those vocal harmonies and haunting melodies, all within a smoothly flowing structure and powerful delivery from Speight. Tears keeps the groove going with its engaging sound and unbelievably catchy vocals. It offers a swaying dynamic resolution as we approach the end of Love & Light, as its dynamic uplifting structure keeps moving forward with an irresistible flow. Simple Things ends the record on a high note with its soothing warm sound and soft progression sums up the whole record’s core sound, leaving the listeners fully satisfied with this beautiful diverse sonic journey and gaining him lots of new fans.

Love & Light is a mellow uplifting record by Tom Speight, it has a sweet emotional sound with unignorable atmospheric layers and powerful decisive progressions that never compromise the mood, showing Speight‘s natural writing skills and well-knowledge of his direction. Looking forward to more from Tom Speight, keep on rocking. Cheers!

Queen Bee by Edie Yvonne

0

The LA-based emerging artist Edie Yvonne has just released “Queen Bee,” another Pop banger that demonstrates her vocal abilities, witty writing, and mature musical vision. The song conveys the whole mean girls’ theme through upbeat rhythms; it will surely be a great addition to your dynamic playlist.

Edie Yvonne is a noteworthy singer-songwriter. Sometimes I forget names, but remarkable voices? Never. That’s why once I heard Edie sing the first note of “Queen Bee,” it hit a chord. I got introduced to the talented, hardworking artist a month ago when I heard her sixth single, “On Your Mind,” and wrote about it in our sister platform, Rock Era Magazine, which was a more edgy take than “Queen Bee,” and that highlights Edie’s artistic diversity.

“I wrote Queen Bee to go hand in hand with a short film I’m working on about mean girls and their minions.” ― Edie Yvonne

The storytelling is solid and puts you right in the scene. You’ll seamlessly feel like you’re a part of a cinematic scene as the song fits perfectly as a mean girl’s soundtrack. Edie Yvonne’s charming voice will charm you instantly, making you vibe while enjoying her masterful delivery. Along with the swaying rhythms, her intoxicating voice offers dazzling harmony.

From start to finish, everything about the song offers the theme’s vibe. The melody sounds playful and spirited, with a sarcastic twist. The synth drives the song, giving it a euphoric vibe. The entire production by Nicky Swedin and Cormac Liotta gives a polished touch to the track.

Edie definitely made sure that all of the elements sounded lighthearted yet delivered a serious message.
