EP: I Wish I Knew by Hafto

0

Hip-hop Bollywood…

Bollywood hip-hop?

I’ve never heard these two words put together…but I like the premise of it…and I don’t even need to imagine how it would sound…because Hafto, the rising hip-hop star from Dallas, Texas, USA has already released a 3 track EP titled “I Wish I Knew”, fusing these genres together and greeting something new out of it.

Hafto is focused on making a fresh experience, exploring uncharted musical territories and uncover sonic fusions that haven’t been brought to light…he wants to make the musical experience for anyone to be a unique journey.

“I Wish I Knew” starts out with the song “Yeh Raat”…it serves both as an intro to the EP and an expectation setter to what kind of journey you’re about to embark on.

“Yeh Raat” is a fusion between old Bollywood music samples and an R&B/hip-hop beat with Hafto’s vocal flow.

Moving onto the second track “Kaash”, this is a more aggressive track, booming bass, edgier beats, more ethnic riffs playing in the background…this one has more ‘in your face’ music…

The melodic hook playing here is very catchy and will stick to the soul for some time to come.

The third track is “Jaanta” could be the most layered song in the “I Wish I Knew” EP…with many layers to its composition…many ambient layers, ethnic riffs, beats, narration-style vocals by Hafto…it feels rich with its layering and its storytelling elements.

“I Wish I Knew” is a storytelling experience EP, told through 3 songs that have a very unique and charismatic presence blending hip hop and Bollywood music, something you might not see elsewhere, check Hafto’s music out, it’s different, it’s fresh.

Hafto, we wish you all the best in life and we can’t wait to see what you have next for the world.

Cheers!

Summer Feelin by Beth Macari

The time of having fun is here…it’s summer and we have an anthemic song to guide us through this time for maximum enjoyment.

Beth Macari’s “Summer Feelin” is upon us to take us from our hands and take us into the summer season…this song is a melting pot of many genres and it gracefully blends them together to give us a very solid summer feeling experience.

The Newcastle based artist Beth Macari is already known for her very high quality productions, whether audio or visuals…her music videos are of the highest quality, so is her sonic values.

From a visual point of view, “Summer Feelin” is catchy, nostalgic yet fresh…the way its shot if a blend of two things…the first is that its shot from the perspective of a small reel camera…the second thing is that even though it is shot like this, it feels like the person who’s shooting this reel video camera is a hollywood blockbuster director…it looks phenomenal.

The music video for “Summer Feelin” is filmed and directed by Daniel Patrick Vaughan…awesome work here people.

For the sonic side of things, the audio world…of course Beth’s musical production standards are already of the highest order, however, Beth is always one step ahead…even of herself and always raising the bar and challenging herself…resulting in a very easy listening dance/pop experience that has many catchy hooks and many ear-worm melodies that will stick with us for a long time.

The way the music is presented to us is in a way that is both making us active, but chill, making us want to dance the day and night away, but while being chill…this is the best way to enjoy summer.

With such amazing production values and catchy melodies…Beth’s star will only shine brighter by the passing day…we’re sure in a matter of no time, Beth will be on the international scale with huge audiences attending her live performances.

Clover Mess by BAD BUBBLE

Art can be born out of hurt…

…the blessing here is if you can get that hurt out of you through the art you create.

This couldn’t be more true with the Chicago based artist Bad Bubble.

Bad Bubble went to war…

Lost a child…

Secluded himself for 10 years…

This amount of hurt is unimaginable to anyone…but he was able to give life another chance through music.

He has 160 songs…I’ll say that again…160 songs.

Bad Bubble explains that he doesn’t sleep much because of the night terrors from the war that he’s experienced…he sleeps 2-3 nights a week…so, he decided to use that time to materialize his experiences and emotions by creating music.

He’s a composer, singer, song writer, multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, piano, bass and a recording engineer.

He’s now releasing a new song titled “Clover Mess”…and for me, after listening and experiencing it along with Bad Bubble’s story…I think this could be one of the truest musical experiences to emulate real life and put it into song.

“Clover Mess” is heavily leaning into the electronic realm…with ambient vocals but strong beats.

Musically, it feels like deep within its notes, there is a hopeful feeling waiting for us…and for the artist too.

“Clover Mess” switches things up in the middle and takes us on a completely different experience during its bridge…it really mixes things up and kind of surprises us too…

The production is rich and has many layers to the sound…and the vocals also has many layers to it, it’s not just one lead vocal line…no, some of the vocal layers are actually serving another purpose…some of them are utilized more like a musical instrument rather than a straight forward vocal line.

The storytelling in Bad Bubble’s “Clover Mess” is poignant and after reading the artist’s story and how he came to make music, your experience of the song will be tenfold.

Bad Bubble, we wish you all the peace in life and thank you for the music. We can not wait to see what you have next for us.

Wishing you the best and a lot more.

Cheers!

EP: Again Begin by JSDAVANI

Storytelling could be achieved through many artistic mediums…

…a picture could tell a story…

…a melody could do the same…

…and I’m not talking about simple, straightforward stories here, I’m talking about intricately designed tales, adventures…stories with an arc and development…

If you’re one to look out there for this kind of medium of sonic storytelling, you’ll appreciate JSDavani’s latest EP “Again Begin”…it’s a journey, built with sound elements…underlying melodies and a lot of passion for telling evolving stories.

“Again Begin” is an EP with 5 evolving tracks that tells stories…there is a theme that JSDavani had in mind while creating the EP and it is, as the artist describes….

centered around the conflicted nature of unhealthy relationships, where both passion and logic fight to the death

…however, I personally believe that one of the most magical aspects of music is the freedom you can enjoy when listening to it and making up stories as you’re experiencing it…

So that opens up another huge door of creative possibilities, making you, the listener, as a collaborator…crafting stories that are close to your heart, or to your life experiences…it’s endless…and each one in the world will have a unique story in their minds…a story that originated from JSDavani’s music and using the music also as a catalyst.

JSDavani is based in the United States and this is not his first bout releasing albums…and he seems intent on making his unique signature sound and storytelling approach, it’s clear also how he’s evolving since his last album “imaginary vowels”…

Entering into “Again Begin”…you’ll be treated with the first track “A.) Brief, 2.) Breathe, C.) Mantra”…it acts as a portal to the world of storytelling that JSDavani has created for us to venture into…and it’s dreamy, hypnotic, chill with strong storytelling elements and evolving sonic landscapes that develop and evolve as characters in a story would do the same.

The album continues to keep us engaged with this very specific and unique approach of hypnotic and surreal music across all tracks…which is something that the artist has spoken about…he wanted to create 2 different experiences with the same album.

The first experience is to go with the flow and absorb the story that is intricately laid out between the different musical and sonic elements and spread across the album…

The second experience is to be a sonic bubble around anyone who wants an ambient musical background to their lives while focusing on something, maybe studying, maybe creative work…it could be anything…

“Again Begin” will hook any surreal/ambient storytelling music lover out there…we got onboard the album and enjoyed our dreamy trip…looking forward to new adventures to embark on from JSDavani.

JSDavani, wishing you all the best in the world.

Cheers!

Under The Lights by THE HEIDI INCIDENT

0

Nailing essential 80s synth funk vibes, this Modern Talking-meets-Alphaville banger sees The Heidi Incident dropping a stunning debut single that sounds desperately promising.

Reno, Nevada-based band The Heidi Incident publicize themselves as a diverse group of individuals that collided from different walks of life for one thing only, their shared passion for music. They are also proficient in the trick of fusing modern and retro sounds, which is exactly what they did on their debut, titled ‘Under The Lights’.

The song they introduce their sound with is a terrific affair of retro-meets-modern funk-pop. Utilizing poppy synth bass, plucked funk lines, and melodic synth and vox leads, with intricate grooves to support the distinctive vocal performance of the song. Inspired by a dazzling array of all-time greats, and contemporary darlings, from Michael Jackson to Maroon 5, the band’s fresh sound comes as expected, a rich and nuanced painting of all those influences. With an endlessly memorable hook that perfectly complements the funky verse section, and the lengthy, anticipation-drawing bridge, the song is exquisitely crafted with love and attention.

An exceedingly promising debut from a fresh group who seem quite able to stay, and to even reach a spot in the limelight. With a fulfilling mix, stunning production, rich songwriting, and a really special sound, The Heidi Incident are here to stay, and ‘Under The Lights’ is a testament to this.

Album: Frame of Mine by SEE LEVEL

0

See Level’s dazzling LoFi charm pours yet again on his latest album release, titled Frame of Mine. An exquisite selection of sound design pieces, 20 of them to be precise, that span all the way across the spectrum of LoFi, and instrumental electronica, showcasing variety and displaying See Level’s vast taste and knowledge, remaining extremely poignant throughout.

See Level is the Los Angeles-based musician Andre Dennis. A lover of music-turned-producer, Dennis is seriously inspired by the idea of leaving a musical legacy through music that sounds like nothing else that’s ever been done before, and it is safe to say that he is covering good grounds towards achieving that goal. With his sophomore record, following his successful debut ‘Rice Butter & Sugar’, ‘Frame of Mind’ sees See Level consistently pulling the same threads, crafting tidbits of passionate LoFi, luscious at times, dark at others, simplistic and flowing at times, intricate at others, while remaining silky smooth all the time. Not for a moment during this album’s healthy runtime does See Level’s music lose an ounce of its chill warmth.

While the 20 songs that make up the heft of this album rarely cross the 3-minute mark, almost all of them manage to introduce a new shade of See Level’s creative agency. Chief among the album’s more standout cuts are ‘Off Top Reflections’, our first introduction to See Level’s true LoFi genius, utilizing sampled grooves, charismatic piano trills, and soulful, reverberated guitar, creating the album’s first lush and hazy scene. More of the same fantastic vibes can be caught on one of my own favorites, ‘Hold Ones Peace’, a piece that does not reach the 2-minute mark, managing to display See Level’s rich harmonic ideas, laying a stunning chord progression, and layering it with a few sparkling piano lines, he manages to create an atmosphere that soothes and hypnotizes. ‘Mirrors’ is another stunner that substitutes dreaminess with melancholia with its intricate piano-based motif, while showcasing a little bit of See Level’s handling of a few dissonant layers, to spectacular results. One of the album’s more alien tracks. ‘Look Deeper’ might just be my personal favorite. With a sublime vocal sample that loops, a gentle groove, LoFi piano, creamy pads, and a few spicy textural layers, this mid-album cut is pure elegance.

‘The Thrills of Patients’ is an extremely chill piece with deep low-pass filtering that gives it a very garage feel to the impassioned guitar lines swirling throughout. ‘Web of Aura’ and ‘Roseless’ are two back-to-back cuts that stand out with chill, hypnotic chords, and accessible mixes that make them easy to fall for while remaining intricate and intelligent enough to be interesting and worth a deep listen, from the subtle toying with dissonance on the former to the tribal-sounding beats and vocal samples, and eerie synth wails that populate the latter.  The jangly jazz vibes on ‘A Paused Glance’, the album’s most ambitious cut, are a healthy departure that sees the introduction of a handful of new elements to the music of the album, such as modulation distorted leads, synth leads, and screaming horns. The Hawaiian apocalypse sound of ‘Beach on Fire’, courtesy of a fusion of bright, chirping birds with a looming bass, a dark, descending progression, and dissonant horns, altogether manage to create one of the album’s most nuanced listens. ‘Helping Hands’ is the album’s later half’s gentlest offering, with romantic pads, heartfelt melodies, and a slow, steady tempo.

At the end of my writing this article on Frame of Mine, I was going through the third listen of the record, half of this time the music was running in the background, during which time I was soothed and focused on doing other things, and for the time I dedicated to focus on the music, I found myself enthralled and totally consumed by the wealth of ideas and textures on this collection of pieces, and from the quality of the execution. It is enough to say that See Level possesses a talent that allows his music to be easy to love and easy to listen to. “Frame of Mine” holds immense value as an album of immersive instrumental electronica that invites you in and wholly welcomes you for the stay.

Euphoria by HILARY ROBERTS

0

With club beats, edgy words, and essential, electrified pop vibes, Hilary Roberts’s first release of the year is a fresh, immediately grabbing, and accessible cut of hot summer pop.

Hailing from Texas, Hilary Roberts is a singer and a songwriter whose first drop of 2023 is the banging ‘Euphoria’, a dance club-ready cut rich with boomy sub bass, impassioned vocal deliveries from the talented Roberts, and a wholesome production job that gives us a product of the most pristine quality. Displaying a healthy departure from the rest of Roberts’s work, which is generally more mellow, ‘Euphoria’ showcases Hilary’s wide-reaching creative agencies.

Euphoria’s electrified pop vibes do not stand in their way of becoming melodic, warm, and intricately composed. The song’s production is a testament to why she is the proprietor of three different Billboard-charting singles, particularly on the dance charts. Immaculately done, the song’s punchy beats and crisp, smooth, and booming synth bass sound tasty in the mix, and Hilary’s own performance, processed and purified never for one moment lose track of their organic warmth, in spite of warping, remaining charismatic and confident throughout.

‘Euphoria’ is yet another showcase of Hilary Roberts’s abilities as a songwriter and as a performer, and released through her own Red Songbird label, she does not lack artistic entrepreneurship skills as well. A delicious scoop of larger-than-life electropop.

PITSTOP BABY by OLLY LOVE

0

OLLY LOVE’s latest release is one of pure pop-funk that’s reminiscent of a hundred pop essentials from decades past, and maybe that’s why it is such a massive earworm.

Based in Portsmouth in the United Kingdom, OLLY LOVE is a musician who is here to give us an essential summertime cracker. Carefree, colorful, charismatic, and chock-full of color, ‘Pitstop Baby’ sounds just like any chart-topping pop tune from the 80s, 90s, or the 00s, a song that’s easy to listen to and enjoy. ‘Pitstop Baby’ comes with a precious VFX video produced by Chris Cousins, and directed by Mark Hamilton, showcasing the song’s playfulness and color. Loaded with a rich upright piano, jangly and bright, the song’s cyclic melodies and intelligent vocal layering make the offering incredibly catchy, and with an acidic, uncommon sounding middle eight section, we can easily see that OLLY LOVE can go a little divisive with his chords.

This tiny summertime delight packs a sizable musical punch that can very easily go underappreciated and overlooked due to the song’s peppy and fun nature. But we’re here to stop that from happening and to tell you all that OLLY LOVE’s ‘Pitstop Baby’ is musically rich and intricate, as well being infinitely catchy and inviting, and now that you know that, feel free to throw it all behind your back, and just dance.

Road Trip Summer Remix by KELSIE KIMBERLIN

0

Kelsie Kimberlin has released a summer song that will take us on a journey, making our summer a…dancier one…this is the summer remix of her original song “Road Trip”, which was already a great song.

Based in Washington DC, USA, Kelsie’s original “Road Trip” is a more moody, acoustic with some melancholic storytelling elements…which was actually great…great mid-song piano solo…excellent vocals, and musical production…but now, we’re entering the summer and Kelsie is releasing a more pop/dance remix of “Road Trip”…and it really works independently as if it wasn’t a remix….this is something that I don’t think I’ve experienced many times…could be the first time actually.

“Road Trip” summer remix is on the other side of the proverbial coin, of the original song.

This time, Kelsie is making us more active, dancier, and pop…with a more upbeat tempo and a more active musical production.

Both of the styles really fit Kelsie’s vocals quite nicely…that’s because Kelsie is both extremely talented and smart, and she knows how to perfectly fit her awesome vocals to music that would complement it…and also the other way, Kelsie’s vocals complement both songs, original and remix perfectly.

I wish more artists would do what Kelsie did here. She did an awesome song, then remixed it and once again did an amazing job….

I think another reason why the remix works so well is that they didn’t change much in the soul of the original music…they actually did a re-instrumentation, re-balancing of the song’s energy, and gave it a new light to get the summer going.

Kelsie, we wish you all the best in life, you’re an amazing artist and we can’t wait to see what you have next for the world…we bet it’s going to be awesome.

Both “Road Trip” & “Road Trip Summer Remix” are excellent songs for different occasions, this is a highly recommended listen…but beware, it’s a bit catchy, you might get the melody stuck in your head for quite some time.

Cheers!
