Just Forget It by MN Moder

MN Moder, songwriter and hip hop artist, squeezes a fresh produce of soulful hip hop with his latest single release, titled Just Forget It.

Based in Duluth, Minnesota, MN Moder is a relatively fresh face in the hip-hop scene, having started professionally producing music at 18 years old. Having already released a handful of singles since 2019, MN Moder has kept a consistent style and color to his releases, and his latest follows suit.

Just Forget It is a laid-back piece of hip-hop music with essential soul sensibilities flowing right through it, for a final result that’s chill and smooth. The percussion, delivered by snappy, programmed trap beats sounds tight and punchy, and the spacey, processed synth that provides the chords is a fitting choice for the general mood of the tune, which is sensual and soothing, in spite of the sad lines that MN Moder lays down. The vocal layering is beautifully done, and the sparse arrangement is effortlessly filled up by several layers of Moder’s characterful vocals

Just Forget It is a song of pure, unadulterated soul vibes that will be easy to get into and to love for all lovers of the genre.

First Kiss (Your Love) by Alexia Vegas

One more charming and bold single from Alexia Vegas, and another story that a lot of listeners will be able to relate to.

New York-based, Alexia Vegas is a singer and songwriter whose electrifying pop sound is always loaded with emotion and melancholy. Heard before on Your Love Is Like a Slow Disease, Alexia Vegas’s vulnerable lyrics return with another emotionally abused protagonist on her latest single, First Kiss (Your Love).

The song features a stellar vocal arrangement that doubles, and even triples Alexia’s vocals at some points. The composition is minimalistic, you can hear the chord progression playing behind the bass riff which relentlessly repeats, basically omitting some of the chords underneath it while it plays. A bold move, albeit a little confusing. The song is about a girl who basically gets dragged into a relationship where the other party has no intentions of sticking around, and the dread of this situation is well reflected in the music, both in the harmonically rich bridges on which the entirety of the progression is pronounced or on the bass-heavy choruses, which feature agonized and rich vocals, right alongside the battering bass part.

Alexia Vegas is a talented singer whose singles are charming, romantic, and relatable, and even her confusing choices end up justifiable in the general context. First Kiss (Your Love) is a listen that’s full of emotion and good singing.

To Be A Man by Dax

All the way from Wichita, USA comes Dax, a rising star with a message to the world…

…for his latest song “To Be A Man” released along with an amazing music video, he’s talking about what growing up is all about, and what it is to be a man.

Dax is an extremely well-established artist with his youtube channel having more than 5 million subscribers and his latest song “To Be A Man” has been only out for around 2 weeks, garnering more than 4 million views.

Dax is really keen to not just make absolutely top quality amazing music or a mesmerizing music video to go with it…no that’s there alright, you have to check for yourself to believe the amazing quality of Dax’s work…

…but he also has a message, you see…that’s not something that comes every day, an artist with a message…and let me tell you something, it speaks to every man in the world, doesn’t matter where you’re from, you’ll hear the message loud and clear…and…you might get emotional.

He performed live at the Canadian Country Music Awards…so he’s an artist in the studio and on the stage…he’s the real deal.

His latest single “To Be A Man” is exactly as the name implies, takes about how men grow, their struggles, how even they might be marginalized in some situations…as a man myself, I really came to see myself in another light when I was watching the music video and listening to the lyrics…

…which let me tell you something about…the lyrics, masterful crafting of words and emotions at its best…there’s nothing to say here, you should just experience the lyrics, and once you hear it, it will fill your soul…maybe make you a bit…or too emotional depending on your current state…but it will also make you look at yourself and maybe make you cut yourself some slack…or even let’s you see something good about yourself.

As men, we usually tend to keep our emotions in, underestimate ourselves, don’t give ourselves enough credit…it’s our job, it’s always our job, whatever it is…

After hearing Dax’s “To Be A Man”…this is the perfect example of doing a change and affecting the world through a song…this is that song.

The music production is absolute perfection with emotional pianos, ambient sound beds, a minimal heartfelt beat…The music video is of the highest quality, it’s a short Hollywood movie, nothing less than amazing…and I have to mention, the acting and directing of the music video are just perfect.

I just can’t recommend this one enough…I will have all the people I know watch and learn from Dax’s “To Be A Man”…it’s just too powerful to miss.

Dax, thank you for your music, you just made the world a better place.

Can’t wait for your future releases.

Cheers!

Album: Fast Changing Landscapes by Linebug

Moving from Denmark to the easter part of Germany…the risk-taking musical duo Linebug has found inspiration well in Zeitz in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany…and they take us through a journey of exploration, both internally into our souls and externally into the world around us.

Mesmerizing vocals coupled with heartfelt music is what Linebug is offering…and it’s an offer no one can refuse…

The dreamy nature of the vocals, with its many deep layers and the musical production, takes us onboard the vessel that will take us through highs and lows and give us an adventure of exploration that won’t be forgotten from our souls anytime soon…or maybe ever.

That vessel is their latest album “Fast Changing Landscapes”…and what a journey we’ll have…

Let’s jump right away into our story…starting with the first track, the album title track “Fast Changing Lanes”…

This song acts as our preparation stage for this journey and getting us introduced to our heroes of the story… singer-songwriter Line Bøgh and the painter and digital artist Christian Gundtoft.

They present to us themselves through a track that only has a piano and vocals…a fit intro to the album and a brilliant first impression.

“Sideways” is a slightly upbeat track with many musical elements to it…strings, percussion, piano, layers of harmonious vocals…it has indie charm oozing from it, it’s a folkloric story that evolves the more we go into it…with brass sections jumping in the perfect moments to fluctuate our emotional energies.

“Skyline” is a song straight out of Hollywood movies…cinematic, rich, full, yet minimal…it’s difficult to describe…with a mystical tone to it.

…going further into the album we find ourselves deeper in the journey…and we’re at “”Beijing”.

A folkloric melodic and emotional song that showcases how steady and masterful Linebug is at what they do.

“Winter Winds” is once again like the first track, a piano and vocals-only song…acting maybe like an intermission in the exact middle of the album…a very welcome change of pace, and a stunning piece.

…after that, we go into “May The Flowers Grow” , a hopeful and inspiring song with a more traditional beat section that can capture the hearts of the more modern audiences…

…at this point, I’m pretty sure about Linebug being able to make the most out of minimal arrangements…less is more. Perfectly balanced.

“I Picture It With You” is once again a song that would fit perfectly in a Hollywood film…or musical maybe? The structure might make it more reminiscent of a musical…

…and right after that moment with the last song, we move into “If I Had A Camera”…and I thought to myself…does it have any kind of hidden relation with the previous song “I Picture It With You”? Maybe it’s the same journey…maybe it’s related…

This song is filled with scale changes that hit deep, very emotional and felt right in the heart…with a simple arrangement of a string section, piano, percussion and vocals…this hits a homerun.

The last track of the album is “Mermaid”…and as the name might suggest, its mystical, magical and you won’t believe your ears when you hear it…it’s out of this world…it’s music from another dimension…this time around it’s just vocals and…no, not a piano, but actually a harp.

Dreamy…and the vocal layers are impeccable.

“Fast Changing Lanes” is a brilliant album and would appeal to any music lover in general…yes, it has some experimental approaches and ideas, but that doesn’t take away from the ease of listening to this album…actually, the composition and arrangement with the vocals will capture any heart that crosses its path.

I can’t recommend this album enough…if you like music, you have to experience this journey…press the big green play button….close your eyes…and float away…

Linebug, you are absolutely amazing, can’t get enough of your music and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the future…I’m amazed at the level of talent and craftsmanship you have.

We wish you all the best, ‘cause you deserve the absolute best.

Cheers!

E’ Festa (Coke Beats remix) by Coke Beats

Featured in a Techno documentary that was a candidate for a Grammy titled “Techno Is A State Of Mind”, charted four times in the Beatport Top 10 Techno charts and with over 1.5 billion views on Tik Tok….DJ icon Coke Beats just released his latest single “E’ Festa”, a Techno haven for anyone who wants to dance…dance…dance, and vibe all night.

Coke Beats is already a household name in the Techno world and not only that but he collaborated and shared the stage with icons that include Aphex Twin, Goldie, and Michael Brecker.

“E’ Festa” is a tough, gritty, and hypnotic Techno track with a lot of energy…it kind of sucks you into this high-energy meditative state that takes you into another dimension, where there is no worry, no past, no future…just the present.

The song is almost 5 minutes…which is enough time for the track to truly unfold and evolve through its stages to full energetic maturity.

“E’ Festa” starts with a very hypnotic and meditative vocal line that feels like the song is casting a spell on you…and that is what happens, literally…you get into the groove right after this, and the kick…well, kicks in.

The track is a slow burner, it takes its time to evolve, taking you from one stage into the next, with each stage Coke Beats is adding more elements that help you transition deeper.

Using anthemic leads, unique synth sounds, and percussive elements, Coke Beats is a time traveler that will transport you to the land of the German Techno scene of the 1990s….and he succeeds greatly to deliver the right mood and energy.

Coke Beats, you’re achieving so much and we wish you all the best. You deserve it.

Cheers!

EP: Swim by ICEBERG

On ICEBERG’s fascinating, new EP of pristine-sounding pop, her music features a duality of clean, fresh production and blunt, confrontational lyrics, and it is this very duality of purity and hardness that the artist claims inspired her to choose the name.

Formerly based in London as a producer for 4 years, ICEBERG’s yearning for escape led her to retreat to a cabin in the Adirondack Mountains where she based her songwriting process, and on an arts grant, she spent six months writing and producing the music on her EP Swim, before collaborating with Oscar Moose on co-production in 4 studios located in central London, bringing us seven fresh and beautiful snapshots of elegance and beauty through life’s hardships.

Swim’s title track is a piece of sophisticated pop with deep sub-bass, a syncopated beat, gorgeous and airy atmospherics, mostly provided by ICEBERG’s ethereal vocal harmonies set against a metallic and skeletal strummed guitar, and a set of lyrics about ICEBERG’s desire to reach success and recognition with her music, and her fear of aging before fulfilling this desire, striking a chord in nearly all of us with such a universal fear. I Can’t Forgive Me is a wistful piece of pop rock that’s intimate and grand. Sung about a love that never fruited, and another fear, this time of attachment. The song’s clockwork piano chords and conventional bass and drum arrangement give it a solid backbone on which ICEBERG’s masterful vocals soar freely, in one of the album’s most unforgettable and remarkable choruses.

Captor’s acoustic guitar sounds warm and the snaky, arpeggiating part embraces the listener as layers of atmospherics weave a sensual web of sound around the mix. A tight and punchy drum kit gets introduced halfway through the song, grounding the soaring mix into a more approachable and memorable one, paving the way for ICEBERG to deliver one of her most standout and challenging performances on the entire album. Featuring some of the most intricate pieces of arrangement on the album, Blood Bank is a stunner about our need for connection, and while some of us might regard human connection to be some form of surrender or weakness, ICEBERG brings her purity-hardness duality into the equation, telling us that codependence can be life-nourishing for couples that utilize it healthily. Another delayed drums introduction brings a rush of momentum into the arrangement of one of the album’s most curious compositions.

Nothing At All’s wallowing, sweet composition is understated and its drum-less arrangement brings the momentum of the album further down after 10ft’s similarly melancholic and laid-back atmospheres. The intricacies of those two songs lie in their dense and inviting layering. From 10ft and its pounding kick drum beat that works just as a beating heart would, its wailing, atmospheric strings, and a litany of harmony layers, to Nothing At All’s ceremonial, ambient strings and guitars. ICEBERG provides a masterclass in getting the tone down without subtracting from the energy or the pacing of the songs.

ICEBERG’s Swim is lucid and endlessly eloquent. Full of energy, mature, meaningful, and quite beautiful and balanced in sound, it is a work of essential pop sensibilities that would be infinitely easy to recommend and to keep on repeat.

Album: Make Yourself Known by Tom Craven

Tom Craven’s latest release comes with a heft of American influences that make its melodic rock sound unique, sweet, and enjoyable, with few incidents… but maybe too few.

Tom Craven is a Milton Keynes-based singer and songwriter whose pure, acoustic songwriting style is tried and true, with a result that’s infused with his very unique way of singing that ends up acting as a glue that holds his body of work together. An artist with a unique vision and a sound that sticks out among the crowd. On Craven’s latest album, Make Yourself Known, he brings forth a healthy collection of songs boasting a healthy runtime of 41 minutes, and among the track listing, we easily can pick a handful of songs that make a lasting effect on us.

Having been in the making on and off throughout the last decade, Make Yourself Knows sounds remarkably solid and cohesive, a hallmark of how Tom Craven’s sound has been solidified and defined for a long time. Hardly a surprise when we know how active of an artist and performer Craven has been, extensively playing tours of California and the UK for well over a decade. Recorded over a period between 2020/21, while recovering from the tribulations of the Covid lockdowns, Make Yourself Known is an album for honesty, self-belief, bravery, and resilience, in Tom’s own words, “an album that hopes to instill a sense of peace, positivity, and excitement in all who care to listen”.

The album’s starting song, Let It Fall (My December), is an anthemic rock banger that’s full of upbeat, melodic sensibilities that carry over to the rest of the album. The song’s driving, 1-chord vamp is rich and empowering, in tune with its lyrics, and its musical turnarounds are sweet and invigorating. The following Hidden City has a vein of bittersweet melancholy running through it. With its ripping guitar riffs and its rhythmically steady flow, the song sounds influenced by some of Guster’s more gutsy numbers, especially with the snappy, organic-sounding mix, and the dynamic arrangement that ebbs and flows with the song’s sections. One of the album’s most unforgettable moments without a doubt.

New Signals is a ceremonial waltz that would work magic in weddings. The song’s wealth of melodies and its familiar chord progressions make it one of the easiest musical environments to get immersed into throughout the album, and its slow tempo, laid-back instrumentals, and long length do well to serve that immersion. Secondhand Smoke (Same Jeans) is a short piece of guitar-based riff rock that injects some highly needed energy after the lengthy, down-winded New Signals before a couple more slow waltzes come our way. A Change in The Papers and Catalyst are sweet-sounding songs that are easy to get into and sway to if neither of them feels momentous enough to live in the shadow of New Signals. Needless to mention that the three songs offer distinctive lyrical topics that make each of them a viable piece of music that’s essential to the context they are put in, making actual comparisons between the 3 songs falter without making much sense. A terrific, piano-driven instrumental adorns A Change in The Papers and makes its midsection one of the album’s most outstanding moments.

Sleep is a dynamic piece of playful, optimistic rock with crisp-sounding rhythm guitar and tasteful rock organ lines that play well together off the bouncy synth arpeggio that runs throughout the song, keeping it all bound together in one of the album’s jumpiest and sweetest listens. Then The Game Inside gets things back to earth again with a piece of ripping, jangly rock that’s melancholic and pounding, bringing a bit of balance back after the soaring optimism of Sleep. A shout-out to Truffles. One of the most enjoyable, albeit shortest, pieces on the album. With its crisp and skeletal, overdriven guitar riffs, this short interlude is a breath of fresh air.

Make Yourself Knows manages to inject a lot of life into Tom Craven’s acoustic compositions and the output is an album that’s sensible, melodic, and easy to get into. After a couple of songs, we start to feel a connection to Craven’s words and to his way of singing them, a connection that lasts until the last song on the record. Tom’s sensibilities are lively and engaging, and what he brings to the table on his second, full-length studio release is definitely worth a listen.

EP: Reflexions & Strings by Trevour Amunga

Born in Kenya and moved to America, Trevour Amunga is a musician and model that is making a big splash with his music in 2021 with his EP “For Akira” and in 2022 with his second EP “Vespa”.

Trevour has now released a third EP titled “Reflexions & Strings”…we’ll be talking about it, but before that, how about we get to know the artist?

Trevour was born in Kenya, which he actually recently visited in 2020…meeting childhood friends, and told him stories about when he was young and was rapping in Church…

Trevour never forgot where he came from…and this is something instilled in him by his parents, who grew up in a small village in Kenya and worked their lives toward their goals, eventually moving to America, while they also had a huge impact on their community back in Kenya, they are this kind of parents, full support, all the time.

His Dad sadly passed away in 2020, god bless his soul.

Trevour always had the music inside him from a very young age, as for modeling, it started because of his sister, it’s her passion and he was taking her to the shoots…and that’s how it came about.

Trevour is always doing art, whether it’s music or fashion…he’s always moving ahead, which I believe is a source of inspiration that we could all benefit from examining and doing the same…never quitting.

…now, how about we get to check out Trevour’s latest EP “Reflexions & Strings”?

Let’s jump in.

“Reflexions & Strings” is a 5 track EP with many surprises…

The EP starts out with the hip hop/synth song “86 Porsche”.

This song has old-school vibes, especially with the synth sound and chord progressions, but with a modern twist with Trevour’s vocal flow, it’s a mix of hip-hop and rap and it is explosive.

“Home” is the second track of the EP… starts out with a famous sampled part of a song, you know It, I won’t spoil the surprise…after that intro, we get into the meat of the actual track, it’s definitely more edgy sounding…bass is pumping, electric guitar lead in the background…a bit of distortion on the vocals…it’s definitely edgier.

It’s also a bit of a progressive song too…around the last third of the song it changes drastically with a more Latin guitar-centric progression…it’s the first progressive hip-hop/rap song I’ve heard.

The third track is “Magic” and it’s unique….so the first half is ambient and cinematic, while the second half is drum N bass on fire…it’s a slow burner, but if you enjoy the ambient ride, you’ll get the energy of the track.

“Stargirl 94” is a sonically nostalgic song…all the instruments sound from 94…the musical progression is chill and the vocals are more relaxed…it’s definitely a chilling song.

Going into the last track of the EP, we get to “Chains”…

This track is heavier, both sonically, lyrically, and emotionally…it feels like a hip-hop/rock hybrid with guitar riffs playing in the background…” Chains” is one of the most unique songs I’ve heard in quite a while, the fusion between different musical genres and elements takes it to another level…add on top of that a very catchy chorus that will make you wait for it each time it comes around to sing with it.

Trevour really shines in “Chains” with great melodic lines and a brilliant flow.

Trevour Amunga is an artist to watch out for, we can’t wait for his new release.

Trevour, we wish you all the best in life.

Cheers!

Mustang Runners by Mary Knoblock

We need more experimentation…move people to push the boundaries…

…more artists to act like explorers of the sonic realm…

If you’re with me on that, you’ll absolutely love Mary Knoblock’s work.

Mary is an avante-garde musician based in Portland, Oregon, USA…and she has a lot to share with the world.

Mary is a neo-classical composer that explored the EDM world, going into uncharted waters, expanding the sonic map of the world as we know it…and oh boy did she take us to new places…

With her latest release “Mustang Runners” you’ll be transported to a cinematic-cyberpunk-ambient-EDM dreamy world that only Mary can conjure up…

“Mustang Runners” is heavy on musical storytelling and ambient musical beds that will not only fill your ears…the rich music and vocal lines will fill your soul with a much-needed experimental, yet absolutely easily digestible musical world that I didn’t wish to leave any time soon.

The track has layers upon layers upon layers of textures, elements, synths, and vocal performance worthy of the Hollywood screen.

Mary’s vocal performance gave me the same chills I got when watching Gladiator with the mesmerizing vocals of Lisa Gerrard….Mary is on the same level, not just with her dreamy angelic vocals, but with her brilliant music composition.

“Mustang Runners” is many things, from Blade Runner to Gladiator to even new unexplored territories….it’s a worthy track to be under the spotlight…and Mary Knoblock is an erupting volcano of talent, her music is a gold mine of absolute cinematic/ambient brilliance.

If you’re not afraid to explore the unknown, to explore the future…check Mary’s works right now.

Mary, we wish you all the best in life, you’re an explorer and we are onboard your ship to go further into new waters.

Cheers!

Album: Davka by Baklava Express

So you talk about fusion?

Let’s REALLY talk about fusion…did you hear about the Baklava Express?

Ok…so let me tell you about the Baklava Express…

Have you ever wanted to eat something sweet, delicious, and unique? Good.

Have you ever wanted to hear something sweet, delicious, and unique?? Very Good.

Baklava Express is a fusion musical group from New York, USA…they play middle eastern fusion instrumental masterpieces that would only be compared to something as sweet and tasteful as Baklava itself.

You see, Baklava is a Turkish delight…and actually can be found in many Arab countries too…and eastern European countries too! It’s so sweet…and if you’ve ever tried it, you’ll love Baklava Express.

Baklava Express plays instrumental music and their music is mainly middle eastern based but with a twist…you’ll get to experience this middle eastern music with different flavors…

Let me tell you how…but first, let’s get to meet the amazingly talented people behind Baklava Express…

Josh Kaye on Oud

Daisy Castro on Violin

Max O’Rourke on Guitars

James Robbins on Bass

Jeremy Smith on Percussion

It was recorded at Studio 42 in Brooklyn, NY.

Engineers: Alessio Romano and Brandon Unpingco

Mixed, mastered, and produced by Alessio Romano

All music was written and arranged by Josh Kaye

Album art by Daisy Castro

…imagine this group of highly creative and talented musicians playing middle eastern, then in the midst of a track like that you hear some blues rock violin licks…I can’t even imagine I’ve thought of this sentence.

I can’t wait to start jumping into their latest album “Dávka”….so why wait? Let’s jump in!

Starting with the first track “Kosher Bacon”… tells me a lot about these guys…they have a sense of humor too, I won’t explain the joke, ‘cause you shouldn’t explain a joke…but you know if you know.

The track starts out the album in a chillaxing mood…the percussion is mellow, the violin melodies are emotional and filled with amazing hooks, and the oud is playing unison with the violin…the mood is that of a warm sunny day, overlooking an oasis…does that make sense?

It’s absolutely stunning. It’s a masterpiece, simply said.

Going into the second track, which is the album’s title track “Dávka”…

..so Dávka, if I am getting the meaning across correctly, is an oriental dance, upbeat in its nature…and that’s the same with this track…it sounds and feels like energetic middle eastern music…the melodic variations in this one is just…lovely and tasteful….which is something you’ll see me mention many times in this article…tasteful…by the way, the oud does an outstanding job in the solo after the midway point in the track…and also the violin with its gypsy jazz unique lick…tasteful.

Going to the third track “I’ll Figure It Out”… has more of that fusion feeling to it, maybe because of the Western utilization of the middle eastern percussion and the chord progression too… especially the part where the oud stars to play the variation progression and the violin playing over it ever so emotionally and smoothly reaching new heights…it’s a fiddler playing middle eastern music…once again, these guys made me write a sentence I wouldn’t have thought of before…

It’s a stunning piece of music that has extreme melodic power within its 3 minutes and 51 seconds…some of the best music I’ve heard…ever.

For the next track, the Baklava Express takes us once more to a more upbeat environment.

I love how this track has a more uplifting feeling to it…and I also have to mention the percussion work here is phenomenal…that’s not to say that it’s the same for the other tracks…it definitely rocks throughout the album, but here it’s different…listen closely and feel the beat.

…next, we go into technical territory…so let’s see now, technical middle eastern fusion instrumental music…glad I could say that out loud too.

“Up To Us” sounds like a very challenging piece to come up with and perform…it’s upbeat and unique time signature nature are highlights of the album…and in the middle of the track everything flips upside down…we can talk about it for hours…but you’d still have to check it out yourself…it has some amazing nylon guitar work in it that highlights the fusion nature of the whole album.

The next track “The Same River Twice”… feels like something out of a fairy tale.

The slower tempo gives ample room for musical buildup…and these guys don’t disappoint…as usual, they take advantage of the slower tempo to build up the emotions…tasteful….

…I’ll keep saying it.

“Turtles All The Way Down” is the next track…the transition in this track takes you from the Middle Eastern deserts to the European classics in one swift move…fusion at its best.

Speaking of European classics, the next surprise is “Waltz For Omer”.

Baklava Express took their instruments and made them dance the waltz in classical European gowns…stop making me say these sentences…this is brilliant….unfortunately, it’s the shortest track in the album, that is its only downside.

Moving to the next stop of this mesmerizing journey…and I’m sad to say that it is, but this is the ninth and last track of the album…it’s titled “Baklava Express”.

I don’t think I need to say anything at this point…of course, you already know…it’s nothing short of brilliant.

After experiencing Baklava Express’ “Dávka” I have to say…

This is one of the most complete albums I’ve ever experienced in my life and it is worth getting all the recognition in the world.

These guys did an amazing job in not only capturing the middle eastern soul, but they added to it in many beautiful and…I’m gonna say it again…tasteful ways…

“Dávka” is a masterpiece whichever way you decide to look at it.

“Dávka” cannot be recommended enough…for anyone. Period.

Baklava Express, you put a smile on my face and on my heart, I wish you all the best in life, you deserve all the best and a lot more.

Cheers!
