Album: Eight Paintings for Piano by Klein & Jamison

I find everything about this headline; intriguing, from the album’s title to the artists’ names. So, let me introduce you to Jim Klein and Ian Jamison, who certainly is no ordinary duo.

Jim Klein is an abstract artist and painter who has a magnificent art gallery: ‘J Klein Gallery’ in Scottsdale. While Ian Jamison is a business school graduate, they share the same firing passion for music, especially classical. Coming from different backgrounds and experiences, they decided to partner up and release their first set of compositions: “six Preludes for Piano” in 2019. Followed by a series of remarkably unique and creative compositions that mostly revolve around the piano being the main instrument.

“Eight Paintings for Piano” is their latest album release; eight piano compositions that co-relate with eight abstract paintings by Jim Klein. Just like the paintings, the music is modern, abstract, and aesthetically unique. You can surely sense inspiration from different composers like Bach, or even different styles like the classical era’s forms and the dreaminess of the romantic era composers, yet, you’ll undoubtedly witness unmatchable originality and authenticity. Like in the 2nd piece “Fugal,” you will instantly relate to Bach’s compositions and fugues, yet with a softer and more modern twist. The music has softness and tenderness that is apparent throughout the eight pieces; with the choice of melodies and the higher-pitched notes, joined by an intriguing element of playfulness that teases you and keeps you curious. The compositions keep you up on your feet; whenever you get comfortable with a theme, thinking you know what’ll come next, they surprise you with sudden mood and theme shifts, taking the ‘boring’ element completely out of the equation. Like in the first piece: “Lucky Seven”; you will be lured in by the sweet melody, the familiarity of the repetitions, and the drone concept till it takes you to a playful, cheerful, and fun mood, till it goes back to its original tender theme yet ending on a striking tune. Another piece that I found interesting in its form and context was the 3rd one “Three Words”; not because of its melodic motif or harmony but for its structure and how it reminded me of the 2ndmovement of a sonata which is usually in “andante” but what caught me off-guard was the sudden shift in the middle section that reminded me of Bach’s two-part inventions, then moving back to the andante, dreamy theme it once started in. Not to mention how the 4th piece: “Two Little Boys Lost in the Wood,” is telling the story of these boys and their journey through music; with the perfect depiction of fear, excitement, worry, conflict, and enjoyment.

The music is performed by the skilled pianist Katie Hughes whom you will witness playing gracefully in the videos filmed and recorded by Jeremy Quick. This is not an album you want to miss out on!

Crybaby by Mia Mormino

0

In “Crybaby,” Mia Mormino employs her array of skills and her energetic yet dark soundscape to unleash her anger and an inner crybaby.

Mia Mormino is a shiny pop star based in LA who is making herself a distinct place in the music industry by sticking to who she is and bringing in her authentic artistic identity. She has been gaining popularity through social platforms, with millions of views and listens on the streaming platforms. However, in her latest single, “Crybaby,” she expresses her frustration over working really hard and not seeing that work pay off.

“Crybaby” is a boosting anthem that conveys the thoughts of many who do the best they can yet are not recognized, while on the other side, those who are less talented and don’t break a sweat are getting chances. Normally, one needs to do something about that or even process their feelings, but it doesn’t harm to throw a pity party and act like an indignant baby.

The three-minute song starts off delicately with Mia’s tender vocal line, which soon enough sounds fiery and protesting and gets joined by a vibrant cadence. It showcases the artist’s singing and songwriting prowess. Mia Mormino has such an ethereal voice and a wild attitude. She has a dulcet yet powerful vocal line, and she can sound both raw and rich. The expressive lyricism is liberating and feels like a silent scream finally coming out. The atmospheric composition and how it combines lighthearted and dark elements make one both danceable and irate at once.

It’s not every day we find an artist who cares about sending self-awareness messages, even if it’s about unleashing inner rage. As well as having genuine talents, knowing how to utilize them flawlessly, and getting one hyped up and touched at once!

Elevate Me by Agon Branza

0

Agon Branza returns with a brand new, stirring, and unforgettable single that’s full to the brim of pure soul, intelligence, presence, and sensual pleas for love.

London’s own Agon Branza is no stranger to thoughtful, touching music. I thoroughly enjoy his stylings and his alluring mystique. After falling head over heels for his last single ‘Some People’, he returns with ‘Elevate Me’, which is beautiful, and with a delightful, masterful twist to it.

‘Elevate Me’ is a synth and vocoder-driven piece of soul that’s composed entirely of vocals, processed, yet touching, with a synth bass added in production, and that’s all. ‘Elevate Me’ intuitive and heartfelt singing was largely improvised in a single take, and the results are out of this world. Making his voice intentionally robotic, then injecting this robotic sound somehow with felt and seen humaneness might be one of the most startling and intriguing musical achievements that I’ve experienced for a long time. ‘Elevate Me’ is largely a plea for tolerance, as the queer artist clearly channels his frustrations through the intimate voice delivery, for a song that’s poignant, minimally poetic, and thoroughly thought-provoking.

Agon Branza continues to stun us with his musical intelligence, as he once again channels his anger in the shape of beautiful, alluring, and lush soundscapes, full of smooth synths, rich vocals, and stirring production choices, and ‘Elevate Me’ might just be his most stirring yet.

Ageless Ancient & True by Kwun

0

Whether you’re inclined to believe that music recorded in the controversial 432hz tune unlocks a particular mind-body connection that the mainstream 440hz tuning fails to do doesn’t matter when you pit it against the stark beauty of Kwun’s latest single, a universal love song, born of a spiritual engagement. And if you don’t understand what I’m going on about with all the frequencies, then it would suffice to focus on the aforementioned stark beauty.

Kwun is a London-based singer/songwriter/producer whose sophomore single release ‘Ageless, Ancient & True’ is a gem of forward-thinking Americana with loving, striking simplicity to all its elements. From the warmth of the strummed acoustic guitar to the gentleness of the beats, and to the wailing slide guitar, the song’s instrumental is an affair of the heart, sounding serene and reaffirming. Kwun’s vocals are approachable and his delivery is understated, yet the inflictions of his voice and heartfelt vibrato say that he is singing from a deep down place, and that intimacy is reflected in the romantic lyrics. Born out of a session with a Peruvian shaman in the Andes, this song’s words flowed out of Kwun’s heart onto paper and were then followed by the music.

Kwun’s latest single is recorded in a controversial tuning that divides the musical community into two segments, forever at a hearty, humorous battle about whether 432hz has any spiritual effects or not, and this battle is not going to progress any further because of ‘Ageless, Ancient & True’. Instead, we should celebrate this song for its beautiful sentiment, heartfelt deliveries, and for its genuine musical and lyrical warmth.

Champagne Showers by Dici

Artist Dici based in Miami, US, released a fun and positive track that will definitely be your go-to for a fresh and energetic morning or good vibes. You’ll dance yourself off with this amazing hip-hop song with a pop twist to it. It’s his first 2023 release and we’re excited for what’s coming after showers of singles in the previous year. Dici is of Italian origin, and his talent in music has made him reach 2 million streams on Spotify in no time.

The song is all about letting go and enjoying whatever comes your way. It’s a nice reminder to just let yourself enjoy life. The overall sound of the song is a high-energy, upbeat electronic rap, and hip-hop mix. It’s also somehow a slow burn beat. The soundscape is a hip-hop one with heavy electronic pop influences that makes the song stand out. The music arrangement is rich and dynamic, bursting with so much sound. Live For Christ by Eric Cohen

0

Artist Eric Cohen based in Kansas City, US, released a really chill and sophisticated hip-hop song called ‘Live for Christ’ on the 10th of March. It will be inspirational, and all the spirituality through art form your need will come straight to you from this song. Eric and Yolanda are on the angelic vocals, and we’re thankful for their collaboration which was assisted by an online chatroom. Everything Eric is inspired by is Jesus which shows in his music sonically and lyrically.

The song is all about Jesus, love, and hope. Eric lives in the strand area when it comes to making this very focused type of music, and one that is also untraditional. The overall sound of the song is super hypnotizing and relaxing to the ears. You feel like Eric’s message of peace is radiating in the beat. You’ve got an A-class deep bassline, magical sound effects, heavenly and soothing energy, and nature and nautical sound effects mimicking island-like music that is usually very light and freeing. You’ve also got a beautiful piano melody and some intense drums that regulate the slow-paced song by giving it some more intensity. There is a female tune humming on a loop that intensifies the spiritual feel too. The rapping is smooth and confident in tone and the vocals are hypnotizing as well. Add this song to your playlist for a fresh and unconventional listen.

Ravers and Parties by AlanP

0

Welcome to the night, welcome to the dance floor, and welcome to AlanP’s “Ravers and Parties”.

This is my feeling when I first heard “Ravers and Parties”…it’s a gateway into the night and onto the dance floor.

AlanP is an established DJ from Lyon, France…and is the resident DJ at the Saint Etienne VIP club…

He mastered EDM music, with several sub-genres even…he does house, dubstep, and even drum and bass…so basically he’s focused on making an energetic experience for his followers and audience.

It’s evident from AlanP’s music that he knows very well what gets people moving, dancing, letting go, and enjoying life…simply put.

AlanP did all the music composing, recording, mixing, and mastering…he basically single-handedly made it happen…this kind of energy and discipline will take him places even beyond his wildest dreams…which he’s already been conquering…

The latest song “Ravers and Parties” is all about having a dream, going for that dream, and partying like time will never end.

The song starts with instantly iconic bell sounds…with a melodic piano chord progression to hook you right away…

Vocals come in…

Shakers jump in…

Drums hyping us…

The composition and the instruments take us into lift-off into the chorus…

Big anthemic synthesizers playing…and we’re dancing to it…

The chorus is instrumental, giving space for the audience to dance and let go…

…vocals fill the verses…

…the drop is pretty interesting too, I don’t want to spoil everything, but it has to be experienced

In my opinion, this song has a very clear goal…which is to hype the audience, give them something to enjoy and release lots of energy…and maybe to dream and keep on dreaming? I’d say yeah, definitely.

You can check AlanP’s music on Spotify, youtube…you can follow him on Instagram and keep you with his new videos.

With “Ravers and Parties” AlanP gave us a bomb, make sure you get to hear it.

Best of luck to AlanP with all of his awesome music, looking forward to checking out his next projects.

Can’t stand losing you by BIAS

0

I can’t stop listening to “Can’t Stand Losing You”’s reimagining, perfected by the awesome BIAS.

BIAS is an amazingly talented and established Italian music producer…and this is not his first ride reworking a classic hit song.

Coming all the way from Imola, Italy, BIAS has a very obvious talent, not just in music production, but in choosing and reworking the intricacies of a classic hit song and giving it these…wings, to let it take flight…one more time.

BIAS took “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, worked with singer Lorenzo “Montaxx” Montanari (former vocalist of the band Light This Night), and made it into this synthy chill experience.

..this time around, BIAS and Lorenzo, once again, take us through an experience, through reworking Police’s hit “Can’t Stand Losing You”.

First of all, the choice of song is absolutely phenomenal.

…and BIAS’s reimagining is simply brilliant.

I can’t wait to start talking about this experience…

…let me just get something out there…this is not a “cover”, I can’t describe it even remotely as a cover…this is more like…when you dream of someone, but you reimagine him in your dreams as something completely different, yet, he’s still the same person…but not…but he’s there, somewhere in your made up dream world.

…let’s jump into this experience…

The song starts out with a very relaxing dreamy distorted synth key sound that instantly captures you…

…everything is perfectly balanced, the synth arpeggiator, the keys, with the riser that takes you deeper into this dream.

The beat has this very pure analog electronic classic sound of the drum machines that made history headlines.

The production is top-notch, instrument sounds are chosen perfectly, the synths, the beat…the balance in mixing and mastering, are perfect…the structure is always exciting and gives the listener something new at each corner of the song…

Lorenzo’s vocals are the perfect match for the song, lyrics, and music…

When listening to the song…I got the feeling that Lorenzo recorded his vocals as if he was on stage, singing for a full-packed stadium…he’s energetic, and he’s really performing out there.

Speaking of Lorenzo’s vocals and the music production aspect of the whole experience…there is a specific part in the middle of the song where the music takes a step back…putting Lorenzo in the front of this dreamy world…but with an effect on his voice, like a bullhorn effect…

…as if he’s in your dream and calling you from miles away…

With all that high level of production and dedication, we can’t forget how impactful the mixing and mastering is…it was perfected by Michele Suzzi, which made the whole experience even more impactful.

You’re not just listening to a song here, you’re being part of a journey, and getting into an experience…the amount of love, dedication, and professionalism going into this track is out of this world.

I got hooked on BIAS’s works pretty quickly…check him out now!

A Mother’s Tears by Jacques Bailhé

0

Jacques Bailhé’s latest released composition is a wordless contemplation upon the direction of the American populace toward gun ownership. A tricky subject matter that will be hard to swallow for some. But the message, ultimately, couldn’t be further removed from the act of owning weapons, instead, it is about a mother’s tears as her child’s life gets cut short, intentionally or not, as a consequence of this policy.

The Los Angeles-based composer of contemporary classical music is following his last year jazz orchestra album, titled ‘Shiva is Flagrante’, with this new, 12-minute-long composition for two pianos and two cellos. ‘A Mother’s Tears’ is dynamic, eloquent, and thought-provoking. The motifs speak of danger intertwined with hope. With pockets of optimistic light, others of desolate desperation, and many more in between, the number of sensations that get evoked by the piano’s delicate and challenging motions, and the cello’s well-written accompanying are too many to count. What’s easy to grasp is the piece’s continuous ascent in momentum and gravity, with the lines getting more urgent as the piece progresses, from a relatively gentle, and decidedly melancholic introductory act, all the way to a hectic and awe-inspiring crescendo that suddenly gives way to a fade in dynamics, then to the silence that follows the piece’s striking conclusion.

A Mother’s Tears is a thought-provoking, challenging, and exhilarating composition from a composer with taste and merit. The message is universal, and the execution is stirring. Give this latest composition an earful listen.
