I Can’t Think by Baaj & Baaj

0

Baaj & Baaj’s “I Can’t Think” is a melancholic journey to a realm made of doubts, spooky ambiance, and sentimental performance.

The multi-talented musician Baaj & Baaj closed 2022 with his synth-driven track, “I Can’t Think,” which features new wave and Brit pop with a nostalgic touch. The artist does it all himself—the singing, songwriting, and producing and he nails them all, offering variety in his pieces, yet they all have his artistic identity.

“I Can’t Think” is the second track I hear and review after “Sweet Earth.” They both capture different moods and discuss different themes. In “I Can’t Think,” the vibe is gloomy; however, the synth is driven here, giving a sparkly touch next to the uncertain feel.

The instrumentation is playing a big role in drawing out the misty sense, conveying the feel of an unclear head that has entangled thoughts, making it messy and foggy. The pace is medium to align with the dramatic lyricism and the smooth vocals, which offer a vulnerable, touching performance.

From the intro to the outro, there’s a spacy flair that adds a brighter flair. Baaj & Baaj knows how to strike a balance, offering a bittersweet musicality and creating his own cosmic sonic landscape that feels both dark and starry.

If you’re an electronica fan, you’ll appreciate this track, admire the creative artist’s skills, and be extra engaged in case you relate to the yearning sentiments.

Tommy Newport ‘Glasshead’ Album OUT NOW

0

Newport has collaborated with Grammy nominees EARTHGANG and garnered critical acclaim from The FADER, Complex, Zane Lowe, Interview Magazine, Hypebeast, High Snobiety, Pigeons & Planes, PAPER, Lyrical Lemonade and COLORS to name a few.

Tommy Newport is known for his irresistible falsetto-steeped indie anthems. Born Oliver Milmine in Manchester, England, Newport moved to the United States at a young age, eventually settling in Kansas. There, he picked up the guitar and taught himself how to produce music on his computer. Now based in Los Angeles, Newport has consolidated his style and sound into something rather extraordinary, creating his own funky, psychedelic style of pop.

Garnering a substantial buzz with his 2018 debut, Just To Be Ironic, while he was still a teenager, Newport continued the paramount success with his EP’s Tommy Gun, Ultra Mango and Liquid. Now, unveiling his sophomore album Glasshead, the new 10-track release is demonstrative of the artist’s growth since his debut album.

Speaking of the new album, Newport shares, “When I make music, I feel my head is made of glass and when I share my music, my thoughts are visible to everyone else. The project bounces around from different genres but stays true to my sound.”

Glasshead includes fan favorite “Jackpot” featuring Juno Award winning Toronto rap legend Jazz Cartier, as well as the new focus track “Fate.” The song touches on the idea that you can lose the influence you have on someone or something. Newport explains, “What was once in your hands can slip away, the journey of said things being left up to fate or whatever may transpire, in a very common and human way. There’s so many instances where fate takes over in the casino of life.” Produced alongside Newport, 4th Pyramid and Afterhrs (Ian Franzino & Andrew Haas), the result is a woozy, laidback song, laced with Newport’s staple falsetto vocals. The drums you hear on the track were recorded by two iPhones, after realizing that the kit hadn’t been mic’d up properly.

Newport has received musical placements on shows like Search Party, Ballers, Expecting Amy, I Love This For You, Never Have I Ever, Walker, Grand Crew, an Apple iPad commercial and What/If. At only 21 years old, he’s built an impressive catalog, toured worldwide with bands including Lime Cordiale and collaborated with Grammy nominees EARTHGANG. Garnering critical acclaim from The FADER, Complex, Zane Lowe, Hypebeast, High Snobiety, Pigeons & Planes, PAPER, Lyrical Lemonade and COLORS to name a few, and with streaming numbers hitting the millions, Tommy Newport continues to shine with his unique soundscape and musical capabilities.

DATSUNN shares his values that matter, at the “End of the Day”

0

As a prolific content creator, you may be familiar with DATSUNN from his Twitch streams, his captivating Instagram beat making videos, or his collaborations with major brands like Native Instruments, Roland, and many more. But no matter how you arrive, Datsunn’s entrancing blend of classic hip-hop, soul, and R&B will entice you to stick around. Citing influences that run the gamut from J Dilla to Lewis Taylor, DATSUNN has perfected an ultra-smooth brand of engrossing eclecticism that is as fresh as it is familiar.

His new song, “End of the Day,” inspires a sense of peace and calm. It was created as part of a YouTube series he was working on, called Behind The Pads, where he picked a random sample and made a new piece of music based on it. This particular sample came from Toronto producer, The Kount.

The lyrics came to Datsunn easily as he was thinking about what he values in this world and wanted to share it with his audience: “All these things we need, like money, fame and greed. Do they mean anything? At the end of the day.”

Casey Moon Released Her Third EP “Ashers”

0

Casey Moon releases her latest and third EP, ashes, after the successes of her first two Eps fountains and mirrors as a part of her trilogy.

Find out below her thoughts about her latest EP:

“Over the course of 2022, I released the first two of my trilogy EPs: fountains and mirrors. The third EP, ashes, is here now. Each project varies in genre and draws thematic influence from a different film or TV series. Listened to sequentially, the projects tell a story about growing up, love and loss.”

Find and listen to ashes in full featuring the latest single, “distance,” on all streaming platforms here.

This final EP is about the sudden horror of waking up and finding yourself in the throes of self destruction. Habits can creep up on you – feeling like you’re in too deep, stuck in your own mess. Lyrically I took influence from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which is all about memory, the will to forget, and the pitfalls of not moving forward.

How long’s the distance between you and me?

I guess I’ll spin the wheel and see

“Writing music has always been a way for me to understand complex emotions. I feel like this project has helped me make sense of a very tough time in my life, figuring out how I got there and what changes I needed to make. I hope it can do the same for someone else.” – Casey explained.

Safety House – New Single from The Emerald Ruby

0

The indie artist The Emerald Ruby releasing her latest single Safter House, after the success of her latest EP.

Check out what did she say about her latest single below:

“My name’s Jen and I’m a disabled, independent, music-based multidisciplinary artist. As you can probably gather, I’m about to release a single (closely followed by an EP). I’d love for you to have a listen to Safety House, my angry little folk tune about the failures of the government during the pandemic lockdown period. On this track I sing, I flute, I ukulele AND I managed to convince some friends to add some extra pizzazz – Joe Gould (crooked fiddle band) lent me his vocals, Peter Hollo (SEIMS / Four Play) lent me some cello, and Miranda Arrighi lent me some fiddle. There’s also a video if you’d prefer to watch and listen”

“If you like it, manage to have a listen, and not much else, I completely understand! If you do, however, happen upon a little extra energy, I would really appreciate a short email letting me know your thoughts! Sharing my work around also means a lot to me, as it can be difficult getting my name out there as an independent artist. Lastly, I’m available as a session musician if you or any other musicians you know need a flautist.”

EP: New Moon by Domax

0

Artist and multi-instrumentalist Domax released an electronic EP titled “New Moon” on the 9th of February from London, United Kingdom.

“New Moon” is one of a kind in its genre, filled to the brim with lush, smooth, and grabbing synths, and taking the innovative approach of incorporating a live performance on drums into the electronic soundscape, which gives each track an energetic life force, and sounds absolutely gorgeous and captivating.

The melodies constantly evolve, and ideas shift around in each measure of the music, making no two sections -or even two bars- sound the same, yet it maintains its thematic foundation that tells a cohesive narrative through lyrical and experimental melodies.

The title track from the EP “New Moon” which is also the first one is energetic and bouncy in dynamics, and harmonically hopeful yet cautious at first. It evolves and morphs through sections in a progressive fashion, and at first, listening, I began to wonder if Domax is influenced not only by electronic artists such as Apex Twin but also perhaps by nu-jazz and Jazztronik artists such as Sungazer.

The second track “Origin Theory” is a calmer, more contemplative piece, laden with complex and intriguing harmonies. The melodies, off-kilter drum sound, and little ear candies here make “Origin Theory” so emotionally seductive. While not a conventionally romantic instrumental like some R&B or jazz standards, there certainly is a sound reminiscent of their seductive appeal. Perhaps there are more influences than what first appears.

“Energy Test” is track number three, and it dials the energy just right between the first two tracks, creating a deliberate choice of dynamic variance, and hitting the right spot with the intentionality of where it is placed. There are some chiptune influences here that are blended with industrial, and the mechanical sound is contrasted well against the cheerful melody. This one will surely put you in your happy place.

The second half of the 6 track EP “New Moon” develops more and more on the ideas in the previous songs, throwing in more influences and sounds that keep listeners engaged. Not to spoil any more of this magnificent EP, I’ll just say that “New Moon” kept me on my toes throughout the whole listening experience, and I never knew what to expect.

Rules by Tahjae

0

With raw rapping, wild lyricism, and a contagious fact pace, Tahjae is setting the rules firmly and putting together a gripping life manual in his clear-cut hit, “Rules.”

Tahjae is the well-known name of the Florida-based rapper Tahjae Wilson. His passion for writing poetry grew before he became a powerful lyricist, as he wrote poems that he later turned into lyrics. A spark was lit when he uploaded a mixtape, he made on Soundcloud, and it had 100,000 listens in a short period of time. Today, the skilled artist crafts the natural flows of hip-hop, uses his abilities to express himself, and creates pieces that, aside from the dope vibes, resonate with others.

“Rules” is, as its title suggests, a punch of rules that were placed to guarantee a place at the top. It’s a way of life, and based on the explicit, worthwhile lyrics, Tahjae seems to have figured things out. The artist has such a genuine style that makes the track appealing to any hip-hop fan. His rich rapping flowed seamlessly with the vigorous beats in a savage manner, offering an edgy, confident impression.

The single’s simple yet effective musicality offers a bright yet tense atmosphere. The synth is aligning with the bars and how they are delivered, setting his own rules to leave his manifest mark. It creates an intense soundscape that backs up the fiery singing really well.

It doesn’t take much time to realize that Tahjae is a witty singer and songwriter. He is a prolific artist who knows how to match the energy of his writing and performing to result in a tight production. His execution is polished and captures the best of his qualities. Tahjae, here, is a star that will penetrate the rap scene in no time.

Calling of the City by Alexia Vegas

0

Big cities have a special spark that is unmatched elsewhere, despite the fact that they are typically too congested. Through her upbeat single, “Calling of the City,” Alexia Vegas perfectly captured the spirit of New York, bringing to the table the glimmering of both her talents and of The Big Apple at once.

The lighthearted tune “Calling of the City” features bright electronic components with dream pop flair, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The song’s rhythms and Alexia Vegas’ ecstatic vocal performance capture the pulsating beat of large cities.

There’s a harmonic combination between the dulcet, passionate vocals, and energetic instrumentation that offers a euphoric listening experience. It seamlessly engages and entices one to love the noise sounds in New York or any big city, embracing the fuss like a soothing lullaby.

The peppy synth and shimmering bass are driving the song, as well as the percussion touch that is adding extra glam. The entire texture is layered with an adventure mood and the feel of rooming around the streets, being carefree and perky.

Alexia Vegas conveys the ardent soul of a New Yorker in her charming delivery. Her tender yet dynamic vocals and the sunny timbre are what standout in the song and make each lyric memorable. The infectious chorus and entire fact pace, along with her sincere, easygoing singing, make one want to dance, go for a run, or take a night car ride in the heart of the city.

It’s difficult not to want to be a part of the dreamy realm created by the delightful cadence, breezy melody, and overall elated production. Enjoy boosting your spirit!

Album: TRANSCENDENT by Ty Brasel

0

Rap artist Ty Brasel released a genre-transforming new album titled “Transcendent” on the 30th of January from Memphis, Tennessee, United States.

Ty Brasel has collaborated with award-winning engineers and high-profile artists to bring his fourth studio album that blends hip-hop and electronica in a way that redefines frontiers on the ends of both genres’ spectrums.

“Transcendent” by Ty Brasel features a number of guest artists including The WRLDFMS Tony Williams, 1K Phew, Aha Gazelle, Aaron Cole, Foggieraw, and Parris Chariz, as well as being produced by Dove Award-winning engineers Dirty Rice, Joseph Prielozny, and JuiceBangers.

The album is lyrically and thematically driven by Ty Brasel’s faith, and his message is a blessed one of seeking salvation through struggle, as he bravely embraces his own struggle as a source of inspiration for himself and others.

The instrumentals on “Transcendent” are grabbing, blending elements of contemporary hip-hop, electronica, and synth-pop. It sounds like nothing else in the mainstream and is freshly unique.

Ty Brasel’s vocal delivery is confident fast and constantly passionate. Every line is delivered with a flow that maximizes its emotion and feeling, with no part of his performance throughout this album being overdone or understated.

The tracks go from hard-hitting, head-banging trap beats to mellow and bouncy R&B, and it is always exciting with new moods and styles going from track to the next one through the album.

The impeccable production of “Transcendent” is noteworthy on many fronts, one being Ty Brasel’s voice and the chain that it is run through. The vocal sounds warm yet crisp, and the creative effects used sound deeply human, but at times alien and unfamiliar. This kept me engaged as I heard Ty Brasel rap in more than one voice. Another thing about the production that I should mention is that it has some of the best 808 bass sounds I’ve ever heard.

Ty Brasel has over 85 million plays on streaming platforms, and with the release of his fourth album “Transcendent,” I believe that number is about to skyrocket.
