Some of the Time by The Official 4PM

0

The Official 4PM returns to the music scene with their R&B release, “Some of the Time.”

Whether you know The Official 4PM or not, once you hear their single, “Some of the Time,” you’ll have a nostalgic sense. There’s no specific element that makes it sound timeless; it’s just that the overall execution has a vintage vibe that makes you feel like you’re listening to a 90s hit. However, it has a futuristic touch that makes it convenient for this era.

Reney (Ray) and Roberto Pena Jr., along with their longtime friend, Larry McFarland, form The Official 4PM. They first got together in 1991 as the acapella group “IV Real,” and they were four back then, with Martiz (Marty) Ware being their fourth member. Over the years, they had massive successes, went on and off, and now they’re making a smooth comeback with their single, “Some of the Time.”

4PM is an acronym for “For Positive Music.” Nevertheless, the trio doesn’t offer clear skies; they keep it real, and their music has a stormy side. “Some of the Time” is an evident example of that, in the form of ear candy. It conveys the essence of a relationship when partners love each other “some of the time,” while other times they can’t stand each other. The lyrics paint quite a picture of this relatable couple’s attitude, and the vocals soulfully bring this picture to life.

The song starts with some resonating harmonies, setting a warm atmosphere that remains till the last note. It has a chill arrangement that soothes the soul with mesmerizing harmonies and organic instrumentation. The tuneful vocal line is delicate and has a retro timbre, yet it delivers a contemporary performance that makes one engage with the energy. By the end of your first listen, you’ll come to the solid realization that this is your mood-boosting track!

“Some of the Time” paves a polished, fresh path for 4PM, and it won’t be hard for this sophisticated group to crash the scene with their authentic music. Their self-explanatory album, “A Song for Everyone,” is up next, and I can’t wait to see the gems it holds.

Empty Apartment by TerraTara

0

TerraTara’s Empty Apartment is new, and also not. Conventional, but out of the box, accessible, yet quirky. It contrasts itself in multiple ways, only one thing is decided throughout. It’s rich, meaningful, and beautiful.

Recorded by Kyra Soko, way back in 1999, in Argenta, British Columbia, Empty Apartment is TerraTara’s foray with percussionist Hamesh into the lush, magical world of roots folks music. Rich, lush, densely musical, and poetic, Empty Apartment is about the loneliness felt after a loss. The loneliness after the loss of a partner, the loss of a home, being broke and out on the street or being forced to leave your town. The empty Apartment is striking and is gorgeously delivered. TerraTara’s voice is husky and full of personality, a personality that seeps into the layered vocal arrangement, along with the warm, puffy harmonica, and the congas, all make an arrangement that’s quite unique, addictive, and hypnotic. The poetic words speak volumes and TerraTara’s voice is strong and compelling.

TerraTara seems to be a modern reincarnation of the unmatched Karen Dalton and Janis Joplin. Boasting the compositional warmth of Dalton’s sweet, poignant songs, and the grandiose statements of Janis’s powerful offerings, TerraTara’s music is its own, unique thing, and her latest remix of her 1999 classic is a must listen for lovers of folk and roots music everywhere.

Outta Love by Airyen Vay

Singer-songwriter Airyen Vay released the dance alt-pop song “Outta Love” from Los Angeles, California on the 4th of November

Airyen Vay is now based in Los Angeles, California, but she was born in the north Romanian town of Botosani in 1994 and discovered her musical passion at the young of 9 years old when she started receiving her vocal coaching and learning multiple instruments.

Airyen Vay wrote “Outta Love” to serve as a metaphor for the aftermath of a breakup. The song’s events take place in space to isolate love, hate, and whatever falls in between.

Knowing that a relationship is “destined to burn” can be a shocking revelation, filled with pain and anxieties of all sorts, and it can feel like a cataclysmic event, like “armageddon”.

The upbeat music, tempo, and melodies completely juxtapose the melancholic and anxious tone of the lyrics. “Outta Love” is a catchy pop song with sad words and happy chords. It isn’t sad nor happy, but it is most definitely heartfelt.

Airyen Vay’s discography currently consists of six singles available on Spotify, and she is currently working on an upcoming single titled “Love Me Like You’re High” as well as her first album.

Psycho Chemistry by Energy Whores

The energetic duo Energy Whores released their single “Psycho Chemistry” on the 12th of October, a disco rock song with a political theme.

Energy Whores was founded by American singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Carrie Schoenfeld and Italian guitarist Attilio Valenti. The name came from Carrie’s song “Energy Whore” which she wrote back in 2019. In addition to being the singer/songwriter of the band, Carrie is a multi-talented person, as she is an artist and a film producer, screenwriter, and filmmaker. As an artist, Carrie designs the band’s artwork such as the logo and the album art.

“Psycho Chemistry” is an addictive disco song with a political theme that can be described by Carrie as she stated in an interview with Sinusoidal Music “The song is about authoritarian leaders like Trump, Putin, Viktor Orban, Kim Jong-un, and Xi Jinping, (but it’s mostly about Trump). It’s about the personalities of these leaders, narcissistic and delusional with an insatiable need for power”. The song starts off with a catchy guitar riff accompanied by a rotary lead synth and a disco beat in the intro. This develops into a string section ambiance with the disco beat ending with fast strings lead line cueing Carrie to come in. Mixing disco rhythms with electronic instruments and guitar creates a fascinating blend with Carrie’s uniquely expressive voice painting lyrics over the music in an addictive vocal line.

Up-and-coming rising artist Alcha drops his second dream pop/indie pop single ‘The Light Is On’

Alcha is a solo project started by French singer, songwriter, composer, and producer Alec Chassain in 2021, who was born in 1994; he developed an interest in drums while learning the piano. With an ambition to share “the moving picture of his inner life” with his audience, he composes and produces a wide variety of genres such as pop, R&B, jazz, and Neo classical. In 2016 he gained experience by spending 3 years in London collaborating with independent artists such as Christopher J. Richardson, Nayr Faquira, and Kirsty Grant. The past two months have been productive for Alec as he released his first single ‘Steady’ in November followed by ‘The Light Is On’ on the 2nd of December.

‘The Light Is On’ immediately offers the listener a retro vibe with a pulsing synth accompanied by a groovy drum beat and a grounding deep bass line. Alec’s warm vocals paint the lyrics over the music, accompanied by vocal harmonies for depth and enchantment. With flawless production and an expansive ambiance, Alec sprinkles an echoed melodic piano line, a panning guitar riff, and a groovy strummed guitar to round out the sweet soundscape.

Elixir by Mdk Fla

If you’re looking for a thrilling and totally new eclectic collage of sonic diversity, Artist MDK FLA based in Fort Myers, US, released a brain blowing 10 track album called ‘Elixir’, on the 5th of November, a little something that will bring back flavor and movement to your life. Matthew Cobis wrote and recorded this album after a three-day float down the James river in Virginia. An interesting fast is that the album was finished after the pain of losing his home to hurricane Ian. Despite this heart-wrenching life incident, MDK FLA amuses and inspires us to create from the heart. He is influenced by artists like The Police, Nirvana, and The Cars.

Imagine a big genie fulfilling all your musical wishes in an instant. This album is a representation of whimsical vibes and music you can and can’t expect at the same time! You will not believe the height of creativity and dynamic sounds this album offers. Everything is an unbelievable collage of sounds from the east and west glued together so smoothly despite the heavy distortions, reverbs, and processed vocalization which are an excessive feature in this creation. With every minute you will be surprised by a new sound, transition, and energy. The album speaks about hope in the face of devastation.

The overall sound of the album is a glitchy, dreamy, out-of-this-earth cocktail of sonical melodies and genres. Some feel daring, creepy, or challenging and others are uplifting, motivational, and soft. The soundscapes are multidimensional, you cannot say there is a particular genre in any song but there is a collection of EDM tracks with a blend of dreamy distorted pop rock, hip hop, eastern oriental sounds, and tribal sounds. The dynamics in the album are so overwhelming you can’t even begin to describe the sound. The musical arrangement of this album is just top-notch production and fusion of the musical spectrum. You’ve got fast and slow rhythms separately and within a track, a lot of distorted electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and exciting percussions, some of which sound very exotic and tribal. You also have some piano, sad violin and sitar.

For the vocals, there are snippets of male rapping, chanting, and unusual female vocals. Some of the notable elements of the album are the sudden yet smooth transitions from a magical, melancholic violin beat to groove energetic hip-hop beat so seamlessly within the same track! Cobis also uses Arabic vocal snippets and Italian vocal snippets in some of his tracks. You won’t be able to get over how creatively put this album. You cannot miss this strange and beautiful listening experience!

Consume by Madeline

0

Christchurch, New Zealand-based artist Madeline releases an intense, ultra-feminine indie pop tune called ‘consume’ on the 7th of October that will blow your heart out. She combines hypnotic lounge vocals and traps bars to create beautiful and deep music for us to enjoy on all levels. She’s heavily inspired by female music queens like herself, like Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga. Madeline studied at the Auckland University Jazz School and is a founding member of the all-girl rockers, SHE LOVES YOU.

An extra slow-burn song, Madeline is sexy and seductive with her storytelling. The song is apparently talking about some form of toxicity. The overall sound of the song is chill, hypnotic and tantalizing. The soundscape is almost an R&B vibe but makes it pop and the melody is sweet. The musical arrangement is rich with a lot of drums, and cymbals, with subtle synthy violin and bass sound effects. There are also what seem to be some funny electric guitar sound effects that give the song a different vibe. A notable sound is snippets of muffled male vocals that speak at the back of the song. Madeline’s vocals are insanely smooth and melodic, she definitely knows how to entertain us with her voice. We expect great things from Madeline and we’re really excited about what is to come.

Click 2 Lit by Jaye R

0

A modern Hip -Hop style track from the talented producer and rapper Jaye R titled “Click Too Lit” with some heavy flows that bust your ears.

Hailing from New York the rapper Jaye R and producer with a new single, Jaye produces most of his tracks -if not all of them- he has previously produced “Gone Gone For The Summer” by Fabolous and A Boogie.

The track shifts from Stoner Rap to Gangsta Rap, and gives a vibe as if you are riding your 64’ Impala puffing on dope on the hood alleys with the swagger of gangstas.

The flows are heavy as if Rick Ross was rapping in this one, but it’s way faster than Ross’s. However, Jaye was stuck in that same rhyme of the hook in the first verse as it was too limited for the two-and-a-half-minute track.

The track bumps swag vibes musically and lyrically, and Jaye’s flow and rhymes enhance those vibes.

Play the track and don’t forget to comment with your rating!
