For You by Feeble

0

Some suggest that love songs should go extinct. After all, what new can be said? It’s all been said before. “I’ll do it for you” has definitely been said before. Maybe not in the way Stefan Ekenberg says it here, though.

Stefan Ekenberg is ‘Feeble’, a one-man band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Making music since the 90s, he took a break from 2010 till 2020 but has since been putting out steady singles, ‘For You’ is one of them.

A syrupy love song through and through, ‘For You’ starts with a boomy drumline and bright pads and keys, playing a sweet and comforting chord progression that accompanies Stefan’s vulnerable voice. Sounding like it would break apart with the lightest breeze, Stefan’s voice is, ironically, feeble, and he uses it to its best effect. Sounding honest, exposed, and vulnerable as he delivers heartfelt lines about being ready to face all that needs to be faced for the sake of love. Cheesy words? Maybe. But the delivery is where they shine as coming truly from the heart.

Maybe it could have benefited from the voice being a little lower in volume and maybe from the arrangement to be more nuanced to make the harmonic choices truly pop out and shine. I strongly enjoyed the shiny pads that fluttered away throughout the whole song, and I felt that it was an enjoyable, light listen that required no effort.

I hope the upcoming outputs from Feeble would have the same honesty and directness about them, but also for them to recognize where the weaknesses lie and be willing to embrace them accordingly and make them work in their favor. Then, I can really say that Feeble would be making perfect Indie Pop treasures.

Bury the Lead by Geez Louise

0

Adapting a vision to mix their influences with their own touch creating something unique and their own, Geez Louise wrote their upcoming EP “Candy Bruise”. An EP filled with ups and downs just like real life. “Bury the Lead” is a deep tune off the EP about how do we choose to hide certain details about ourselves in relationships so, let’s see how it goes.

With classic alternative rock vibes, “Bury the Lead” starts. It sounds like its core is coming from the good days of The Cranberries and Alanis Morissette with modern layers that made it their own. It keeps on smoothly progressing with beautiful melodies, the vocal melody is haunting and guitar melodies are layered and keep on building up on each other until you reach the fluid flowing chorus with its significant distorted guitar. “Bury the Lead” escalates smoothly as a stream of beautiful melodies into a bigger and more emotional sound before smoothly going again to its catchy chorus that takes you to the outro.

“Bury the Lead” is a mellow tune with an emotional sound that’ll make you feel its melodies deep. It has a smooth and enjoyable structure and flows with catchy dynamics, looking forward to Geez Louise’s upcoming EP to check out their whole sound and vision. Cheers!

Made To Last by Betty Harper

Betty Harper is a 19-year-old singer hailing from Wales. Other than having an angelic voice, she used to go on shows like “Wales Got Talent” and had her music featured on Welsh radio and in press releases. Recently, she released her new song “Made to Last” on Spotify and Youtube.

The first thing that grabs you from this song, “Made to Last,” is the piano throughout the song. The piano-playing articulates the notes in a rich and resonating way, and it’s melancholic in nature, though this is no sad song at all. The lyrics to this song are so deep, one lyric that really resonated with me is “I’ll always stay by your side.” My favorite part of the song is the vocals. The vocals are dulcet, lowkey angelic. They remind me of the likes of Adele and Alicia Keys, and in the chorus, when the violins entered, her voice amplified into an even more angelic tone. It is hard to believe that Betty is only 19 years old! 19 years old and this talented, I can’t imagine what she will do in the next 5-10 years.

In conclusion, I think Betty is on her way to becoming one of the big leagues! With these releases, we will definitely be hearing a lot more of her in the upcoming years, and this single is sure to put her on the map to stardom. Even Adele had very humble beginnings, and now she’s garnering hundreds of millions of listeners per single!

Entangled by Minhy

0

After a successful career in industrial automotive design and then being a freelancer, designer/songwriter Minhy decided to push her boundaries and explore the world of songwriting and use her talents in expressing herself artistically.

Crafting her own melodies and words together creating her own world using her influences, Minhy released her debut single “Dead of The Night” and self-directed its music video winning a number of awards for it. On the 20th of May 2022, Minhy released her second single “Entangled” and we are going to dig deeper into it so, let’s go

Mixing dreamy ambient melodies with mellow emotional piano and chilling beats Minhy simply created “Entangled”. The most impressive thing about “Entangled” is the way Minhy is controlling the whole song’s melody and dynamics with her angelic voice.

She has full control and with simple alterations of her voice, she boosts the mood or slows it down. “Entangled” has a smooth flow although it has a number of escalations and progressions, everything is balanced and layered neatly in harmony and all tied together by Minhy’s vocal melody. It feels like she drew inspiration from classic R&B songs and mixed them with her electronic influences creating her own sound that I dig a lot.

“Entangled” is a chilling tune with lots of melodies and emotions bonded together by Minhy’s special delivery creating a multi-dimensional, multi-layered sonic experience. Its smooth flow makes it sound simple and enjoyable with a hooking chorus that sticks right in your mind. Looking forward to more, cheers!

Say My Name by Ed.1t & Glass Lord

0

Preparing a good meal is much more than following a bunch of instructions. If you lack the sensibilities and the taste, you’re basically just throwing different colored substances into a hot pot.

Glass Lord and Ed.1t are not throwing different colored substances into a hot pot, they are expertly adding calculated ingredients at the correct intervals to produce a tasty gourmet-class musical dish.

On this dance cover of Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’, the duo returns with a unique blend of Daft punk-esque guitars, Drake-esque vocals, and an instrumental that could rock the hardest dancefloor in Ibiza all night long, on the hottest summer days.

The disparities between the original and this cover speak of a great vision the duo has: driving drums and thumping bass, a dull and alluring voice, and thick, honeyed, over-layered guitars, all find their way together to create 3 minutes of pure disco bliss.

It’s been said before a million times, but it’s refreshing to find a case in point occasionally, that music doesn’t need complicated ingredients to just… work. A few simple elements can go a great way to delivering a point if they are curated with care and are applied with intention and vision. The point here is to dance, and dance you certainly will.

Foot on the Pedal by 5ON5

0

The most exciting musical experiments are the ones that hop over genre boundaries. When an artist takes the tropes of a certain style of music and plants them in a foreign landscape. And the most successful of those are the ones where you can’t even distinguish between the colors because of how well they blend together.

5ON5 is a musical collective that hails from Berlin. Just like the city, the song feels rigid, cold, serious, and alluring. ‘Foot on the Pedal’ was released as a street track by the group, featuring a minimal arrangement that carries the point across with stark elegance, the point being a song that can belong in a movie, short, simple, and intense.

The rigidity of the sound is introduced by a minimal acoustic guitar riff that is subjected to dense compression, making it sound metallic and putting in mind the harsh sounds of industrial rock. This is confirmed by a dense and punchy sampled drums featured in a very sparse beat that drives the song.

The arrangement, accompanied by solid heartfelt vocals from Max, trudges along at a very slow pace that’s filled with more than enough elements to not fall into the trap of lethargy that this tempo can easily cause. The chorus features a haunting choir in the back and beautiful vocal harmonies on top of an eerie progression, along with sampled vocals and a short rapped section that serves as a second verse for a swift change of pace from the first one. A lot of exciting elements that seemingly blend perfectly to deliver exactly what 5ON5 intended to deliver.

A beautiful song doesn’t need much in terms of elements and moving parts, not even in terms of beautiful sounds. This song is a perfect example of a beautiful sound made possible by a strong vision from the group and a few moving parts to help along the way; none of them particularly beautiful, but for a final product that’s definitely about the sum of its parts.

Stay On the Moon by Tori Boltwood

0

Tori Boltwood is a Fort Worth, Texas-based solo artist and vocalist/songwriter. In 2020, she began releasing independent music. She spent three years studying musical theater and classical vocal instruction. Elvis Presley and Cher are among her numerous influences. Her latest single, “Stay On The Moon, which she wrote and performed and was published in April of this year, encapsulates all of her inspirations in a single song.

I was astounded when I first heard this song since it is so distinctly unique. The only other time I felt this way was the first time I heard a Kate Bush song. The music’s distinctive vitality draws you in almost immediately; it possesses a hypnotic quality that compels you to listen to it on repeat. The slow-paced 80s synth and reverberating vocals do evoke the boundless expanse of space. Tori Boltwood’s classical roots permeate her vocals, lending this song a unique individuality.

Tonally resembling “Space Oddity” owing to the sophisticated use of mixing that immerses the listener in a universe formed in the music, creating a sensation of isolation. This song’s serene ambiance halts time while suspending the listener in space.

Feels Like Summer by David Nolf

0

The latest single from David Nolf, “Feels Like Summer,” matches the right vibes of its name with the right lyrics in a beautiful way that you would think has died in today’s music. A well-made pop song that channels being young and in love. I visualized myself on a road trip going some faraway beach.

Now the song may not be the strongest thing ever on the instrumental side, but these lyrics are beautiful and the guitars accentuate the electronic beat in a very 90s-esque way that made me wanna get up and dance.

It feels nice to have a song that can fit into today’s top-selling charts as well as an oldies/nostalgic playlist. Very stylish and beautifully sung with a back-to-basics approach here.

I’m pretty sure this one will be a hit and a famous banger among many of today’s youth once it gets the right airplay and radio play that it’s rightfully worthy of. I recommend this song for all your holidays and beach outings with friends or loved ones.

She Don’t Care by Marcus Smith

The title “Unique Mélange” that rapper Marcus Smith called his second album is “an interesting mix.” It’s a fitting title because it shows how deeply he was influenced by The Beatles, Childish Gambino, Lenny Kravitz, and Bruno Mars. And everything you’ll hear on this album adds to this title.

When I listened to “She Don’t Care,” I felt like I went back in time to the songs of the late ’90s. It’s the first release of Smith’s 15-track album, keeping his creative flow, merging elements from Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Funk, and Soul to give us a rich all-around experience.

Smith is a very good songwriter, and he manages to use the words to draw heart-pounding scenes to the magical beats of Commercial Pop and Hip-Hop that make your body vibrate and send you to the dance floor, where your friend that Smith might be talking about calls you and you care.

The bursts of energy that “She Don’t Care” sends through the speed of the beats, the voice, and the flexibility of rhymes in poetic sentences convey cues that put you in a positive mood while also reminding you of Craig David’s early 20th century recordings.

And now, after 15 years in Hip-Hop groups, Smith is emerging on the music scene as a solo artist, working with some of the world’s most creative artists, embarking on a journey full of experimentation and creativity, so you have to give yourself time to discover Marcus Smith again.

Molly by Future.Exboyfriend

Future.Exboyfriend just released their latest single, and it is just in time for stocking up on those songs to add to our summer playlists for those beach parties, long road trips, and fun evenings.

The trio—Tyler Harris on guitar and vocals; Isaac Paul on bass guitar; and Josh Arena on drums—who are based in Salt Lake City, Utah, have released several singles since 2020. I don’t usually comment on the bands’ names because I believe they evolve from the band’s identity or there’s a personal story behind it, but I love the metaphoric element in their band’s name and its uniqueness.

The band’s musical style is influenced by the likes of MGMT, Tame Impala, and Prince. They’ve been performing live in several venues and have shared the stage with Remi Wolf, Sports, and Pinegrove, and have also joined renowned festivals like UMS Festival, Treefort Music Fest., and Kilby Block Party.

‘Molly’ is about meeting a stranger at a music festival, and it’s a love-at-first-sight kind of moment, and you already feel connected to that person, although you’ve never talked to them before or even know who they are. The song has a very simple and familiar bass line, which keeps the music grounded while the synths add more flavor to the aesthetic, keeping it fun, cheerful, and dancy, while the vocal line gives it a unique identity by using a falsetto vocal style. Check out the band’s Instagram account for more details on their upcoming performances, and their ‘Molly’ is not a song you want to miss this summer.
