EP: The MOTHER EP by TE/MO

0

The MOTHER EP by TE/MO (or Teagan Earley) shares a personal story that many find relatable, touching on themes of betrayal, feeling forsaken, and struggles with identity, particularly resonating with women. Let’s find out more.

The Mother EP presents a unique mix of well-crafted and arranged songs. The lineup perfectly complements the EP’s concept. Listening to TE/MO’s EP brought back memories of a friend and her experiences from a few years ago.

TE/MO shares a personal account of receiving wrongful diagnoses leading to emotional turmoil and a shattered sense of identity. Collaborating with a friend, they created a song “Mother I” reflecting this experience. The song evolved into “The MOTHER EP,” symbolizing rebirth and resilience in the face of medical system challenges. It aims to empower women, validate pain, and inspire healing and growth.

The hard work and extensive experience in the EP production process are truly evident. Over a year and a half, the team collaborated in various cities across the United States, both in person and remotely. The group included TE/MO, JP Warner (writer-producer), Joey Grace (writer-producer), Joey Chelius (a writing consultant and multi-instrumentalist), and Jim Augustine (TE/MO’s manager and business partner). The EP’s appeal lies in its singer-songwriter’s passion and compelling vocals, drawing inspiration from lyrical themes that resonate with listeners, and creating a beautiful and impactful musical experience.

“Because there is no one way to be Mother. Mother isn’t birth. Mother is CREATION. Mother is LIFE.” TE/MO

The EP blends synth-pop, rock, and alternative elements in a narrative about a mother’s journey through infertility and self-realization:

  • Track 1: “A lullaby” – MOTHER dreams of having children.
  • Track 2: “Mother I” – MOTHER learns she can’t have children, and pleads with the universe.
  • Track 3: “An interlude: endoMe” – Explores living with chronic pain.
  • Track 4: “Mother II: Theo” – Dreams of a son, Theo, faces the reality with grief.
  • Track 5: “Mother III” – Realizes motherhood is about creation, not biology.
  • Track 6: “An epilogue: 12/22” – Reflects on healing not being linear, finding strength in creativity and self-identity.

Let’s be real! Regardless of our background, we often encounter judgmental individuals who make quick decisions about our lives. Personally, I view TE/MO not only as a rising artist but also as one of the most courageous ones. Heartfelt thanks to TE/MO for the amazing EP; it has been enlightening and truly inspiring.

Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle) by AKS

AKS’s latest single is an infinitely tasteful piece of hiphop that’s classically good. Immersive flows, witty bars, a pulling voice, and a genial charisma, AKS is making one beautiful show with ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’ and its visualizer.

AKS, also known as #3Letters, is a London based lyricists, rapper, and musician whose singles have been causing ample stirs recently. After the success of his previous single ‘Seasons Change’, gaining support from Ministry of Sound, BBC 1xtra, and BBC Music, AKS has been slowly and surely gaining traction for months -a traction he is now crowning with the terrific ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’.

The song is defined by its jazzy instrumental, deep-pocketed groove, and a rapping style that’s reminiscent of immortal names, universally appreciated, like Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. AKS is not a copycat though. A healthy influence by the greats have helped AKS find a sound that’s truly admirable and easy to enjoy, while being so individually comfortable to him that he truly shines with each syllable.

The production, done by Lykke Jay, makes use of groovy bass stabs, a slightly syncopated groove, both, together with the warm and timeless sampled horns riff, make for one effectively jazzy and rich atmosphere that is ripe for AKS’s classical rapping.

All in all, ‘Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)’ is a calculated and balance piece of hiphop, thoughtfully and capably produced, and lovingly rapped by a witty, authoritative, and talented wordsmith who drips with a cozy charisma that makes every bar flow like liquid honey.

BRIDGES BETWEEN WORDS by AGON

AGON’s Europop sounds massive and intergalactic on his latest single, the punchy and electrifying ‘BRIDGES BETWEEN WORLDS.’

AGON is a musician and musical artist, rapper, and producer who hails from Slovakia, the city of Banska Bystrica. In his latest single ‘BRIDGES BETWEEN WORLDS’, AGON comes across deeply profound and philosophical messages. Wanting to bring the world closer together, AGON tries to build bridges with his music, between the traditional and modern, the cultural and the personal, and the past and the future, and he does so with weighted lyrics that are delivered in his infectious and engaging style.

AGON’s musical style is purely electronic on ‘BRIDGES BETWEEN WORLDS’. Comprised of slow, electric beats, and legions of stabby synths, the song’s melancholic chord sequences are easy to digest and leave a lot of space for AGON’s words to live and resonate, and with lyrics as weighty and as well thought out as the ones found here, space is what they need.

‘BRIDGES BETWEEN WORLDS’ is well weighted and fun, meaningful and intricate, a song that showcases a well-spoken artist with messages to get across. AGON’s latest release is well worth the time to explore

Oh mi da dey di by JEFF VIDOV

Jeff Vidov’s extensive, decades-long career precedes him as he infuses each of his songs with a colorful joyfulness that he has acquired from years in the choir, as a film composer, and as a baroque pianist.

‘Oh mi da dey di’, the title of Vidov’s latest single, is a musical trip that is guaranteed to put a wide smile on your face. Released as a part of his upcoming 2-CD album, ‘Oh mi da dey di’ is a puree of all things fun and cheerful that Jeff has learned during his musical years. A Canadian native with his studio located in Toronto, Jeff Vidov’s family-friendly pop is bustling, fulfilling, and fun.

‘Oh mi da dey di’ takes its title from vocal exercises Vidov teaches people in his choir, and the infectious quality of the choir sees its way to every element of the song. From the stomping groove and Jeff’s terrific vocal performance, all the way to the snappy piano and jangling horns section, ‘Oh mi da dey di’ is a wonderfully warm song. Fantastically produced too, the music is punchy and modern, and the sound is engineered to very high standards, making the energetic vibes exquisitely contagious.

Jeff Vidof is a consummate professional. An expert fully in control and in his element with music as cheerful and busy as ‘Oh mi da dey di’, which allows him to tap into numerous years of experience and bring us something truly colorful and engaging.

Album: Pisces Pie by ODELET

Odelet’s Pisces Pie is an exquisitely tasteful album of chill jazz songs that exude chill vibes and warm instrumentals. Gorgeously composed, the 11 graceful songs on Pisces Pie are each stunning displays of a talented musician who is taking full control of her craft.

A musical mastermind, Odelet is a singer, songwriter, producer, and visual artist who began performing her music while attending Portland State University for Visual Art and has since been involved in experimental and minimal music, a trip that has now culminated in the trippy and rich jazz that we now find on Pisces Pie.

Deeply inspired by old-school hip hop, Odelet set out to craft Pisces Pie using little more than a drum machine and keyboard, resulting in intoxicating and smoky atmospheres populated by Odelet’s own, extremely soulful vocal deliveries that are silk smooth and caramel sweet. While remaining mainly in her speaking register throughout the songs, something which adds a lot of comfort to the sound of these songs, this does not inhibit Odelet from displaying stellar control and technical proficiency, from the challenging, exotic runs and vulnerable vibrato on ‘Ten Tons’, the cloudy harmonies on the following ‘Paired’, and the smooth glides on the penultimate ‘Eclectic’. A lush low end that makes all of Odelet’s performances run easy, and a terrific control that allows her to effortlessly twist and turn, creating intoxicating vocal passages on almost every single song.

We can also not glide past the efficient instrumentals on Pisces Pie. Consistently roomy and jazzy beats with booming kicks and muffled snares work magic with the upright bass lines and warm, soft piano that softly arpeggiates and paints vivid images with exotic voicings that are equally dense and alien, yet inviting and serene. Odelet’s formula for Pisces Pie is beautiful, subtle, gentle, and immensely effective.

There really is little more to say about Pisces Pie. This self-written and self-performed album showcases a multi-talented artist in full control, as previously mentioned. The 11 songs on the album are uniformly colored, providing a fulfilling and coherent listening experience, and an efficiently guided, low-frills tour into the artistic world of Odelet, an artist brimming with frills.

(Br)other by (BR)OTHERS

Warmth, grooviness, and succulent, soulful performances are everywhere on this brand-new drop from soul and rock veterans Michael Bland and Sonny T. Br(other) is a terrific new release that hints at a whole new juggernaut of soul and funk right around the corner.

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, BR(OTHERS) is a niftily named outfit comprised of a duo, Prince alumni Michael Bland and Sonny T. With the duo’s glorious portfolios, it is very easy to deduce that the music they put out will be juicy,  funky, tight, and fun, and their debut single titled ‘(Br)other’ is exactly that.

Made up of just what makes a soul song shine, ‘(Br)other’ is built upon a solid, 4-on-the-floor groove from Bland and Sonny T’s drums and bass, respectively. On top, wobbly, heavily filtered guitars define the mood as richly soul and funk in direction, and the slow, calculated tempo, and its blend with the lush vocal croons all help in creating the song’s distinctive, joyful, and cool mood.

A terrific mix also comes as no surprise on ‘(Br)other’. With a duo of such high profile, nothing short of an exquisitely balanced mix was to be expected, and with the song’s warm and sweet lyrics about Bland and Sonny T’s decades-long close friendship, we have a song that excels at all of its significant corners. A delightful, fresh, milestone that could promise a lot of new goodness to be coming our way shortly.

“Price of Love” lyrical appeal stems from the fact that it is a commentary on recent hip hop news that is making the rounds of widespread abuse of power by specific individuals…and the developments behind these news…

…with the usual PROKLAIM vocal and lyrical flow, intertwined with the great beat and excellent musical production…”Price of Love” is an instant hit.
