A Page To Tell by Louis Cross

0

From the first few notes on the latest album by Louis Cross, you could tell he has so much more than “A Page To Tell” to his listener. The 5 track EP is called “A Page to Tell” and deals with Louis’s self-discovery journey and his experience with disability. The first track, “Better Light”, is fast-paced and sets the stage for what is about to come. The track is brief and impactful and doesn’t deviate away from its main guitar riff and vocal melody. The second track, “Picture Frame”, is my favourite track on the album and I’m sure it will be found by many to be the best offering on this EP. The song’s length is adequate, its lyrics are heartfelt and it is stuffed with details like backing vocals and a drum pattern that builds up into something heavier. The piano that plays here adds a very subtle emotional quality to the sound of this track, as it is heard loud and clear during the verses as if it’s a Beatles song. Up to this point, you could see that Louis is not trying to limit himself to one genre or style and go by it, he just writes what he feels. ” I Don’t Know” is the most Folk-ish sounding track on the record, and is a very sketchy offering.

The style with which Louis enunciates his chest notes slowly and with some nasality will remind many listeners of the great Johnny Cash, except this is what Johnny Cash would sound like if he collaborated with Elton John. The fourth track, “We Are All The Same”, is the one song in here that’s bound to be a mainstream pop hit, and this is not to say that it’s poppy or simpler than the rest of the tracks in any way. On the contrary, it has some nice violin melodies and a catchy chorus that make it stick into the listener’s ear much easier than the rest of the EP. The lyrics are inspiring people to come together and forget their differences while the music is a collaborative effort between many different instruments that form the melodies. “Life Can Tell You Down” begins with an emotional violin line which is followed by vocals that follow the same exact melody, and I just love it when songwriters do that. This is another track that sounds very modern and can fit in a modern music record if it was written by the likes of Ed Sheeran or John Mayer.

Let’s hope we see Louis and his music as famous as said artists one day, cause his material definitely deserves the same level of recognition and mainstream play. The sixth and final track, “A Page To Tell”, feels like Louis is pouring his heart out and trying to find his sound. Certain lyrics in here shattered my heart the moment I heard them too, such as “I remember each fall as it began”. But other lyrics are super uplifting, such as the chorus with its amazing and empowering violin and guitar melodies. The angelic way Louis cries out “I’m A Page To Tell” transcends his feelings so well while sticking to the same musical blend and style that he created. In conclusion, it’s safe to say that Manchester-born singer-songwriter Louis Cross is bound for stardom and mainstream success. I can even go as far as saying that he will be one of the greatest voices of his time. The only setback with this EP is its play-it-safe production that compromises experimentation for the sake of rawness and familiarity. And while I understand that this could be the better choice for an early point in his career, I wish to hear a more polished production in his future endeavors because he sounds like he has a ton of potential to him that still hasn’t revealed itself

Boundaries by Chengcheng

0

You don’t want to be an artist’s ex. Why? Since you will be a mortal in their work, and, once again, for the sake of clarity, you are an ex, he most likely won’t portray you in a favorable light. “Boundaries” by Chengcheng is a prime example of this. It’s what you can call “relationship closure,” where you can dance your partner’s memories out.

Chengcheng is a Shanghai-born, Los Angeles-based pop producer and songwriter. He has a bachelor’s degree in music production and engineering from Berklee College in Boston. The creative artist is clearly influenced by the dance-pop music scene, as demonstrated in his fresh single “Boundaries” and the glimpse of singles like Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and Charlie Puth’s “Attention” in its peppy sound.

“Boundaries” is a dream pop take on what most think of and want to say after a breakup. After a breakup, one is left with some leftover emotions that they need to drop once and for all, and bouncing to “Boundaries’s” edgy, vibrant beats and singing along with the charismatic, playful vocal line would do this job.

Lyrical material explores relationship stages, from sweet nothing to almost throwing things. The fervent rhythm and the edgy wave are complemented by Chengcheng’s ardent voice with its sarcastic tone, creating the ideal aesthetic of a colorful canvas with dark sprinklings.

There may have been some influences to create such a sonic vitality, but Chengcheng certainly has his own artistic identity. He knows how to create a hit where each element is screaming out its characteristic and seamlessly blends with the others to produce an infectious tune that, once you hear it, won’t leave your head.

Album: The M9 Project by Styles1001

0

Artist Styles 1001 will put out a jazz hip-hop heavy album drop on the 17th of November, from his location in Sacramento, US, called ‘The M9 project’. The album is made up of 11 songs. Featuring a few other artists for rap and vocal segments, the main collaborator with producer styles is emcee/poet Rasar Amani. Their first album released together was way back in 2009 called ‘The solution.’ In 2013, Rasar approached Styles with the idea of making them a duo called M9.

This album is a combination of sweet and tragic and the balance between them is insanely good. So the ideas presented in the lyrics are stories and reflections of what seems to ve tragic stories of life’s experiences, struggles, and pain, with raw emotional baggage being thrown on very magical and chill soundscapes. The overall sound of the album is like a fantasy suspended in a cloud above, with the world slowly burning beneath you from disaster. It’s like you’re feeling so good about the horrible things in life because why not? Most of the tracks’ soundscapes are chill jazzy dream sounds, which are slow and satisfactory for a productive or slow day. They are also featuring a nostalgic old-school rap approach.

One of a kind, this album is so generous with the musical arrangement in creativity put in the vibe as a whole. The album is extremely melodic, with fine, rich tones of jazz influence. The jazz drum sets set the medium pace, and there are a lot of, cymbals, light piano, saxophone,  and trumpet sound effects that create optimistic and gentle melodies. There is heavy use of harp and wind chime sounds in almost all the songs that give them a dreamy and magical lo-fi sound. Some of the notable sounds that are really fun and stand out in this album are distorted sound effects like a telephone line left hanging at the beginning of any song,  glass clinking, and money cashier sounds. What also catches your attention easily is the many conversation snippets, or somebody talking to you, that start some of the songs, before the sudden change to the start of the songs. Also, a lot of female backing voices are used to either sing or hum the tunes, which adds more texture to the songs. The rapping vocals are so strong and the bar spitting games are intense and direct.

The album is a collection of unrelated events and feelings, but it’s definitely a smooth sailing experience listening to all the amazing output of these artists’ experiences. Sit back and enjoy some old-school rap paired with dreams and warm jazzy beats!

Ashgrey Butterfly by Realma

0

Artist RealMa released a stunning out-of-earth song called ‘Ashgrey butterfly’, denoting her real talent in making music for the heart and soul, on the 11th of November from Bor, Serbia. She has a knack for gazing through neo-symbolism and addressing real-life concerns of social burnout, loneliness, and depression, particularly in young adulthood.

Utterly from another planet, this song is a portal into another whimsical fantasia with singing butterflies, chirping birds, and lots of fairy dust.  This song discusses nonconformity and all the misfits out there! With hints of psychedelia, the overall sound of the song is mesmerizing and cartoonish in a sense. It’s perfect for a theatrical show because of its playful and also highly orchestral vibe music-wise.  The soundscape is so magical and mellow.

The pace is medium, and the musical arrangement is rich and complex with dynamic sounds. There are a lot of dramatic drums, light piano tunes, and different violin sounds that create the melody. The eathernless and hypnotizing sound of the vocals adds lots of allure and glamor to the song. This is an experience through music that cannot be felt except by listening!

Don’t Look Too Far Ahead by Fifth Lucky Dragon

Artist Fifth Lucky Dragon blesses us with a new alternative pop whimsical tune called ‘Don’t look too far ahead, on the 27th of October from Indianapolis, US. Fifth Lucky Dragon is the project of Louis Impireiale who is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, vocalist, and writer. His main inspirations come from artists like Glass Animals, 21 Pilots, and MGMT, and love to blend cutting-edge pop with introspective lyrics that make you go beyond the surface of matters.

This song is for the overthinkers who don’t know how to live life spontaneously and feel worried when they have no plan, who are many of us! Take a chill pill and relax with this wonderful blend of happy tunes that also emboli your thinking. The overall sound of the song is cheerful, busy, and fun.

The soundscape is positive pop with a mellow melody. The pace is a medium beat and the musical arrangement is complex with a lot of drums, upbeat piano, bass sound effects, and harmonious bursts of continuous saxophones that is so sweet. There are also wind instruments and tunes that make a large part of the melody sound. The vocals are really sung from the heart with a clear emotive tone. You’ll love the fun and young spirit in this one!

Some People by Agon Branza

0

Ethereal, sublime, cinematic, and grand.

Agon Branza’s Some People is an artistic statement of the highest caliber. The Lisbon-born, London-based artist has an immense ear for arranging and scoring, and his talents for production and composition too, are on full display in this outstanding piece of music.

A multitalented individual, with an interesting background, Agon’s been an outcast since he spent his school breaks listening to Björk. He has since then got a long experience being a producer, film composer, and lyricist. His pristine, clear, and strong voice, with a delightful, lush texture and a surgeon’s precision helps get all his points across with amazing ease.

Being a queer artist, Agon knows a thing or two about being surrounded by the wrong people. He learned that wearing a mask only does harm and hiding from who you are can only cause damage. Universal knowledge is amplified by the artist’s charismatic, telling voice. Some People is a haunting chamber pop sound, based on a lulling, grandiose sound that evokes Enya’s medieval charms. Branza’s vocal delivery is beautifully enunciated and his melodic adventures on the chorus tell of immense talent. The composition is, for the most part, sweet, warm, and gentle, before it eventually ruptures on an intense bridge section that’s eerie and massive, with Agon’s commandeering vocal presence.

A special song. It’s not usual to find a piece of Chamber Pop that’s this cleanly produced, artistically composed, and emotionally sung. Agon’s agonized vocalization is remarkable, and the song’s airy vibes make it an outstandingly rich experience.

Witch Doctor by Sour Taffy

0

Some psychedelic tunes become anthems of the disappointing reality forcing us into stoicism.

From Tennesse, the US   the band Sour Taffy release their debut track titled ‘Witch Doctor’ which is considered a Psychedelic Funk track.

The track has a smooth calm psychedelic reggae vibe or you could think it’s a tango dance theme music at first glance. But in fact, it’s just a stoner psychedelic funk.

‘Witch Doctor’ begins with an intro of slow calm drumming followed by amazing guitar chords that are followed by echo-themed vocals to participate in the psychedelia.

Sour Taffy is Daniel Thompson – Guitars, bass, vocals, synths, production, and mixing and Nathaniel Aberdeen – Guitars, bass, vocals, synths, production, and mixing.

The track is inspired by the cheesy 60’s horror movies, and has a Halloween theme and horror scenes in the music video, also lyrics elucidate that theme given the title of the track.

Musically the track is quieter than it should be, given that it demonstrates a horrific theme, I believe it should’ve had more horror in terms of music featured within. Also, the vocals from Daniel were lacking some horror screams and catchy sounds we always heard in those horror movies the track is inspired by.

All in all, it’s a wonderful debut for the psychedelic funkers and surely we haven’t yet heard a bit of their potential, so let’s excitedly stay tuned.

Cyber Crystal by Skylan

0

Rising songwriter and DJ, Skylan released a dubstep banger that will blow your brains out on October 31st, from Raleigh, US called ‘Kyber Crystal’. With an EP and more than 10 singles in the last year, this is what she loves to do when she’s not in her 9-5 boringness. she created this for her, mostly because of binge-watching an entire Star War Saga.

Intense and extremely textured, this song is perfect to get lost in if you wanna forget about everything for a few minutes. The overall sound is an overarching surge of energy and anticipation. The soundscape is an electronic dubstep sound, with unusual vocals and interruptions that are unique to the dubstep genre. We can really feel the cyberspace war vibes in the music’s intricacies.

The musical arrangement is rich and packed with weird sound effects. Of course, we have heavy leading drums and beautiful piano that create a dramatic melody with the dubstep interface. There is also a slight violin sound effect that makes the song feel even more dramatic. The song is just an in-your-face kind of feel!

Time of My Life by Rob Lea

0

In the midst of a sizzling tour of the US, Rob Lea releases his latest single, the just as sizzling Time of My Life.

The charismatic, sunshine-voiced, Blackpool native Rob Lea is a singer/songwriter of delightful alternative pop and rock. His sound is happy, emotional, and introspective, and his songs are snappy, catchy, and brilliantly written. Time of My Life is no exception.

Rob Lea’s inspiration for this song is his own perseverance to keep going, despite all the hardships he’s gone through throughout his life, he’s excited to be here, and to do what he does, to make a better life for himself, his kids, and his family. This sweet notion is set to a dazzling alternative arrangement. Rhythmic stuttering guitar riffs, a dramatic, larger-than-life chorus composition, and jubilant, liberating lyrics all combine to make Time of My Life one of 2022’s most inspiring, energetic, and peppy songs. The production is sublime, allowing all the miniature compositional elements to show and shine, from the colorful, overdriven guitar lines to the charismatic vocal harmonies on the fantastically catchy hook.

Time of My Life is the most positive song you’ll hear for a long while, with a positive notion to support it, and it is executed in an eloquent, flowing way that feels natural and fresh. A song that pays respect to the joy of dancing in one’s underwear, Rob Lea’s Time of My Life is pure feels.
