EP “Endless Summer 2” by Edge & Babi Lou

0

It is no less hot than the August sun, and sweet as the breeze that caresses you when you relax and this sun is setting, and you will find one of his songs waiting for you when you decide to go to spend the rest of the day in the club open to the sea and want to dance until you lose consciousness. This EP “Endless Summer 2” is the latest release by upstate New York-based rap duo Edge and Babi Lo.

We can describe this duo’s stature as a “success after trouble”, both Edge and Babi Lou have topped over 750 playlists on Spotify, and recently brought us this summer 6-song EP full of creative energy.

It is a long, hot summer, says Edge and Babi Lou, but with them, you won’t feel it, they cut it short in about 18 minutes. Until the first song titled “3 seconds”, which starts heavy, reminds me of “Craig David” in the ’90s, when you wake up tired from a tumultuous night to start a new phase of stress and problems and it happens that you are in the summer where you long for rest in the sun and back to the nights Loud, but you can’t even be alone for 3 seconds. The rhythm of the song is nice and fits very well with its theme.

The duo managed to snatch some time to go downtown to pass the club and have some drinks, to find their song “If You Wit It” played by the DJ, and people gather around the dance floor and chanted as they dance with their hands up and down with the explosive rhythm of the dance, and the unparalleled lyrical performance. It cuts off with the bells and attracts you against your will towards it. I liked the tone that the song started with and started to fall back into the background but it sounds clear with the vocals, it made a really loud atmosphere. While they were there, “Intoxicated” was added to the list, which kept the night going on the same level of excitement but with a different rhythm, dancing in a dirty style.

“Sorry” is a first-class rhythmic song, where the rhythm dominates the vocals and the lyrics, inspired by the afro rap that is always ready to move your body on the beach with your lover, its words touch your soul like little waves tickle your feet while you dance, they are full of a wonderfully romantic atmosphere that forces you to hold The hand of your sweetheart and you feel every moment you have lived or will live through.

“OH I can’t stay” I loved her so much and fell in love with her from the first second, she dances so deliciously, Edge and Babi Lou’s singing is wonderful and different from what they did in the songs on the EP, it makes you complete the summer and “Endless Summer 2” with all that it holds hot.

Does the summer end with “Do It Again” I think no, but the fun that the duo gave us ends with this song, it’s a successful ending in terms of the name, it tells you to do it again and listen to this album and maybe the wonderful music of Edge and Babi Lou.

The duo proves that there is nothing they can’t do or sing, finding the best and most creative ways to present their stories with different seasons of the year and not just summer, they deserve and deserve this EP to everything special besides your follow-up on them and everything they release.

Revelation Ground by Rachael Sage

Richness is a word that can be easily associated with music such as Rachel Sage’s Revelation Ground. The gentle singer and songwriter’s tunes where voice and melody fuse with the accompanying guitar or piano into one body, delivering a cohesive message and atmosphere, and with a bespoke arrangement that serves this unity. Or such is the hope that these songs come into the world with, naturally to hit, or to miss.

Rachel Sage is a New York-based artist is currently on an extensive tour in the UK. Revelation Ground is her latest single. A song that would place you right in the middle of some cool shaded woods, with streaks of sunlight passing gracefully through the thick tapestry of branches above. The sound is incredibly warm, the words are poetic and the voice is in control of the music’s flow. The song is entirely made of a gently picked guitar, Rachel’s vocals, and a rich string quartet that’s arranged to perfection, together the three elements become distinct highlights, allowing the song to feel whole and satisfying. The efficient arrangement, beautifully balanced mix, and the simplicity of the song deliver the message effortlessly making it a wholly rich experience.

Zero Sum by Moviola

0

Colombus-based rockers, Moviola are dropping their new single “Zero Sum” on the 19th of August 2022 via No Heroics and recorded by Jake Housh (Moviola’s in-house producer/engineer) at his Oregonia Studio. It’s a piece of social criticism that’s dipped in melodies and groove. Let me tell you more about it.

It’s clear from the beginning of “Zero Sum” that it’s a colorful easy-going tune with lots of bright melodies. It has a smooth flow throughout its verse and chorus with some fluid guitar melodies, in-tune vocal harmonies, and groovy bass. The guitar work is solid injecting melodic chilling tunes in each part while the multi-layered vocal melodies were pretty enjoyable with all those harmonies, especially the smooth ending that brought the memories of a lot of classics.

“Zero Sum” shows that Moviola knows their sound and influences well, using their instruments and vocal abilities to create a classic acoustic/Americana with lots of groove and from-the-heart melodies. Looking forward to more, cheers!

SHAME by Enjyng ft. Wrené

0

Following the release of their critically acclaimed albums Live Wire and Blind Alley, respectively, Wrené and Enjyng have collaborated on a new album titled “SHAME.” The upcoming collaboration provides an unfiltered view of the challenges that today’s youth are faced with in an era in which technological advancements are constantly changing. The issues of censorship; the pressures and challenges posed by social media; and the need to express one’s truest self within a culture hampered by erroneous notions of satisfaction are some of the premises highlighted in the track. People who experience feelings of isolation and disconnection from the daily illusions of contentment created by the media are the target audience for “SHAME.” The gloomy and atmospheric track was influenced by a variety of artists, including Joji, XXXTENTACION, and The Weeknd, amongst others.

This song highlights the profoundly retro aesthetics of the artist’s signature sound, which contrasts hypermodern lo-fi digitals with slick classy flourishes. The synthesized sounds serve as the foundation for the instrumentals, which influence the vocals.

It incorporates traditional lo-fi techno and synth waves. It also balances feathery vocals with deep, grisly bass.

This meteoric duo’s collaboration is gothic, bass-heavy, occasionally daring, and quite beautiful. It’s a bold and resounding first step for artists with bags of potential, and over the next decade, you’ll undoubtedly see popular music scrambling to replicate what this song accomplishes on every level.

Party Alone by Ibbi Too Vicious

0

Ibbi Too Vicious just released his 2nd single this year “Party Alone” after the success of his previous single “Closed Doors” which has over 7K streams on Spotify only. Ibbi Too Vicious is the stage name for the singer and songwriter Ibrahim Munir, a Cincinnati-based artist who started releasing his music in 2021 and has already performed in remarkable venues like Arts OTA, and Madison Live in Cincinnati, along with shows in Texas. He also opened for notable artists like Turich Benjy, and Lantana and a remarkable event hosted by Grizzlies player Desmond Bane in Richmond, Indiana.

The artist’s musical style is inspired by the likes of Jaden Smith, Steve Jobs, Young Thug, and The Beatles. “Party Alone” was already recorded in April 2021 yet was never released till a year after when the artist decided to re-record the vocals. An upbeat, energetic song with feel-good summer vibes which you would normally hear at a party, a must-add to this summer’s playlist. It was produced by StoneSoWavy and recorded at Timeless Recorded Studio by Turner Allen who also mixed it. The song will be part of the debut tape the artist is currently working on.

Little Black Dress by The Isle Of CC

0

Summer is for movement and fun, but sometimes we need to chill and listen to music that moves our souls rather than our bodies. The Milton Keynes music project, The Isle Of CC, is back after a long hiatus with the first studio single, the fresh and hooking “Little Black Dress,” with a cozy, jazzy vibe to loosen the tension.

The Isle Of CC is the Milton Keynes-based Serena Robb alter-ego, who has an astonishing voice that will entice you once she starts singing. Her rich vocal abilities alter between soulful and tender to powerful and booming.

“Little Black Dress” is the lead song from the EP, “Void,” and it’s a song that’s relevant to most people. In our early 20s and now maybe at a lower age, many starts to search for love, get confused about their emotions, and feel strongly attracted to someone, but somehow the very next day, you just can’t stand them. Written in a poetic style, The Isle Of CC was able to depict these contrary sensations and thoughts.

Jazz, Neo-Soul, Funk, and a Gospel hint are the mix you’ll hear and enjoy. From the dreamy intro, the instrumentation seamlessly blends to put the listener at ease. It has a vintage feel, yet it is bang up to date. The section with the backing vocals and Gospel touch wasn’t a total surprise, yet it was stellar and added more consistency. The arrangement and production make all the elements blend in harmony and make you groove delightfully with the feel of a live show.

The entire single is a sonic landscape that you’d better be wearing your headphones for full pleasure. The gifted vocalist will mesmerize you along with the appealing melody to create a dream-like fantasy that will only keep running with playing the song on repeat.

Bloom and Grow by Kyla Tilley

0

There’s no use denying that our human minds work in different ways on an individual level. Some of us are bound to be more excitable or explorative or curious than others, and it takes a very creative mind to be able to capture one’s individuality in such a way as Kyla Tilley does with her music.

Kyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter based in Newfoundland & Labrador, whose music can be described as alt/prog/post-folk, and can be summed up by the words, imaginative, quirky, and messy (with my best intentions). This album, her second, titled Bloom & Grow, documents a very personal trip of Kyla’s, a trip of growth and self-acceptance through depression, regret, and uncertainty. The music on the album can take a week to cover. Each song is an aura of its own, telling its own story about its own characters as they go about their daily lives, doing ordinary things that Kyla easily manipulates to make these actions heroic.

The instrumentation throughout the entire album remains largely cohesive, in the forefront is Kyla, with her bizarre singing sensibilities, always battling for attention with the intentionally clunky drumming that’s characterized by a claustrophobic sound that’s entirely devoid of reverb. Barely balancing all this chaos is Kyla’s guitar playing, at once virtuosic and hilarious. Her guitar playing often falls out of tempo, but often more plays chord voicings and does changes that are way beyond the ordinary that demand all the attention. The album is definitely rich and complex, both harmonically and rhythmically, through both the messiness of the performances as well as the creativeness of all the individual parts. Standouts are Apathy, the only song here that’s drumless, featuring a beautiful harmonica that plays a breezy motif that compliments the song’s sweet composition. Another one is definitely The Dragon. A 7-minute behemoth of composition that features writhing and twisting parts and a fiery electric guitar solo.

Overall, an album of exceedingly admirable qualities. Never for a moment would I consider it a walk in the park or an enjoyable listen to everybody, as I personally found it challenging to sit through some moments on the album, albeit because I couldn’t quite comprehend the number of details that I had to digest, not because I wasn’t enjoying the music. Also, it’s quite long. Clocking in at 53 minutes only adds to the challenge. So, should you decide to invest your time and dedication to sit through this album, you will be rewarded with an immensely colorful trip into the creative mind of a quirky artist. Should you decide otherwise, I believe Kyla Tilley herself would totally understand your decision.

No Matter the Crime by Russell Thomas

0

There’s no denying that music helps many listeners get through tough times in their lives and accompanies them. It also helps its creator, the artist who set his emotions free and shared them through a song. In his third single, “No Matter the Crime,” Russell Thomas gave off instance sentiments.

The genuine musician, Russell Thomas, located in Sheffield, said, “I have an appreciation of musicians who have an ability to share their feelings openly in their music, laying themselves bare.” And I share with him the same opinion. That’s why, on my first hearing of him, I appreciated his art; he’s sincere, real, and willing to share a tough experience in a softhearted manner.

“No Matter the Crime” discusses a heartbreaking topic. It’s about letting go and forgiving a close person who chose to take their own life. Thomas refers to this action as a crime and decides to tolerate it. This is a situation I’ve never been in, but I can only imagine how devastating it is. And I think that choosing to forgive is a way to set both souls free—the one who died and the one who lives. That’s why the single process has a melancholic theme in a vibrant sound as if making peace with it all.

The lyrics serve as a bridge between sadness and relief. It paints a picture of how to sustain and process the horrifying event and its emotions. As well as, remembering the relationship you’ve shared and its characteristics and coming to the decision that “I’ll always forgive you no matter the crime.”

Through the Folk/Pop blend, the single has an elated, reassuring sound. The acoustic instruments sound as if they’re dancing together. The thirty-second instrumental intro is enough to draw a smile on your face and make you predict that you’re about to hear an uplifting song.

Russell Thomas’ clear, moving vocals add more serenity and brightness. It’s tender and emotional in a way that makes you feel the lyrics inside you. The backing vocals, especially the “Ahhh” sounds, give more of a cloudless feeling, where you can finally enjoy the sun’s rays.

This is a touching song that you might not relate to, but you can undoubtedly feel it and appreciate it.
