Interview With TerraTara

You previously stated that the band’s primary influences were raggae and world music. In addition to raggae, I could hear a lot of Italian or Mediterranean folk in “A Love, Tantalized.” Was that specific genre in mind when composing this track?

yeah, originally it had a gypsy feel, and I was just picking on the guitar, it was a bit faster and then I changed it to have more of a backbeat rhythm.

Who in the band has the biggest influence on the composition of the songs? Is it a team effort? Can you take us through the steps you take when writing a song?

I write all of the songs. I write the guitar and mandolin parts first. Then I do the vocals, then I add drum and bass. I give the bass player and drummer the idea of what I hear and they run with it. It’s a back and forth processes till something is more solid.

Are there any upcoming albums or shows planned for this year?

Yes, going into the studio at the end of August to record the next song! Playing the Slocan Market on Aug. 6th!

What do you hope listeners will gain from your music?

I hope that they like it and want to dance and sing along!

What is the meaning behind the band’s name?

My name is originally spelled, Tara. And people my whole life ask me is pronounced Terra or is it, Tara? So I decided to make my stage name, TerraTara.

Interview With Karen Harding

0

Karen Harding’s passion for music started at an early age, she started her journey learning the piano at the age of 6 and singing at the age of 14 and the rest was history. Harding played a number of solo gigs and performed with bands all around the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, and released a number of singles that were nominated for awards and received radio plays. After the attention that her 1st single “I’ve Got a Secret” drew to her, Australian singer/songwriter Karen Harding is about to drop her 2nd single “Til the Ocean Meets the Shore” on the 5th of August 2022. The two singles are part of her 6 tracks upcoming EP “I’ve Got a Secret” which will be fully out in October 2022 and available for purchase through Bandcamp but today, we are going to get to know Karen Harding better so let’s go,

  1. You started learning music at an early age, what made you take this step? Who were your 1st influences?

I did! Music was something I always loved. I was always singing little tunes around the house and was always drawn to the sounds of different styles of music. It was natural to take the step to learn how to play. I was lucky enough to have parents that supported me by taking me to music lessons.

My biggest influences in music have always been a combination of amazing storytelling songwriters and the sounds of beautiful ethereal vocals.. they’re the elements that whisk me away into my world of imagination 😊

Probably my biggest influences would be storytellers like Leonard Cohen, Tracey Chapman, Bonnie Rait, and vocalists like Sarah McLachlan, Eva Cassidy, and Linda Rondstadt.

  1. Being an indie artist during these hard times is a bit risky, can you tell us more about the pros and cons of being an artist and how you overcome the hard times?

For me, I feel that it’s a great time to be an indie artist.

Artists have never had so much freedom to create their own direction in their music careers as they have right now. Thanks to the internet, we can share our music, without having to sign to a large record label and following their requirements for your release.

The biggest challenges are definitely trying to build a sustainable income and finding the time to do everything that you need to do, however, I like to see my music career as a business that you grow over time.. the reality is that no startup business is easy to grow, and you never have these things instantly.. if it was too easy to develop, everyone would be doing it and the market would be even more saturated than it already is.

Because of the freedom of being an independent artist, I have the opportunity to think outside the box and make my own rules.. try things.. and as a result, the challenges can be overcome in my own way and I love the journey.

  1. How usually does your writing process go? What influences your writing?

For the most part, my writing is not very structured.. Music is a kind of therapy for me and when I’m writing by myself, often the music just flows out.

Sometimes, it will just be me with my guitar or piano, playing and singing and I record what I do, refining it later.. Other times, I will lay music down first and then bring in the vocal melody and lyrics later.

More recently, I have been doing more collaborations, which has given me the opportunity to explore different ways of writing and I have really enjoyed the different processes.

Inspiration can come from so many places.. often it is relating to the way I am feeling or expressing a thought or emotion within me.. other times, it could be inspired by something that someone has said or something I see.

  1. How will you describe the sound of your upcoming EP? Can you tell us about its lyrical theme?

My EP, ‘I’ve Got A Secret’ is a collection of 4 songs that I wrote over Covid lockdowns in Melbourne. The songs were all written with me and my guitar, as expressions of what I was feeling at the time.

I am releasing one track each month until the full EP is available for streaming in early October.

The title track, ‘I’ve got a secret’ was released on 8th July 2022, and speaks of the idea that we were all sharing the highlight reels of our lives over social media.. all the positives of being locked down. We all had our challenges and vulnerabilities that we were hiding away as ‘secrets’ and the song addresses the idea of the fears of sharing those vulnerabilities and of what people will think if they know our secrets.

The latest track, released 5th August 2022, ‘Til The Ocean Meets The Shore’ is all about a realization of how far I have come in overcoming challenges and moving forward, and a declaration that we will not give up.. we will keep pushing forward.

There are two other tracks, ‘Drive Away’ and ‘Letter To My Friend’, which I look forward to sharing  in September and October.. or, a little secret 😉 you can skip the line and order the full EP at Bandcamp – karenharding.bandcamp.com

  1. Do you plan on doing any music videos or live gigs to market “I’ve Got a Secret”?

At this stage, I don’t have any videos or live gigs planned, specifically to market the tracks. I would love to, and you never know what could happen!

Right now, I have so many projects on the go that I can’t wait to share and I would love to circle back and create a video when I can create some more time.

  1. If you would pick a song of your catalog so far for someone who wants to get into your music, what would it be?

This is a great question, and quite difficult to answer!

Every track within my catalog comes from a different time in my musical journey, and in my own personal journey.

I love the creative freedom I had with my track, ‘Anxiety’, and the amazing work that my producer, Josh Hennessy did with creating the sound of the song.. this is a more indie pop vibe.

If you would like to listen to the more emotional singer-songwriter vibe tracks, I would definitely recommend listening to my latest EP releases.

  1. What’s the point that you consider the highlight of your journey so far? And what are your future plans?

Everything new I do is so exciting to me! There have been so many highlights..

At the moment, I am working with an amazing family in Argentina on some songs, and am just loving the process of creating them in a way that I never could have done on my own.. I love the takeaways that you have with everyone you work with!

I have also been honored in the last year to win and place in a number of songwriting competitions, which has been amazing.

For the future, I am just enjoying the journey and seeing what comes up.. I want to keep exploring songwriting and collaborations.. I have so much music that I look forward to sharing and developing and I just look forward to continuing to grow, connect and learn as an artist.

Thank you so much for having me!

Thanks for your time Karen, Looking forward to more awesome releases, cheers!

Fresco, parce by Departure

0

Intuitive, Intelligent, and Soulful. That’s what came to mind during my listening to this stunning piece of work from Departure, who’s back with his third release for 2022. ‘Fresco, parce’, is a wordless piece about letting go of second-guessing oneself. A point that I personally felt reverberate within me.

Departure is Camilo Toston. A brilliant electronic music producer with his base of operations in London. In this piece he wanted to address creatives from all fields, who seem to get stuck in their own head, second-guessing every aspect of their work. Being stuck in this judgmental loop really hampers an artist’s progress, as well as his quality of work.

How has he managed to express this? Very well. The song is basically a chill down-tempo that puts in mind Bonobo at his finest hours. A glitchy electronic segment starts the song and acts as its entire first half. Full of processed vocals and quirky, poppy synths here and there. It’s an energetic segment full of color that makes it very hard to imagine Mr.Toston having a creative crisis. This section is not devoid of guitar riffs in a thick, creamy tone, and a brass section that plays all those seemingly haphazard notes that add a ton of jazzy character in the blender.

A chill interlude is a final rest from all the chaos of the first half, as it takes us gently by the hand to the second half of the piece. A cacophony of jazzy clean guitars, a massive brass section playing a melodic riff along a chilled-out beat. A part that’s entirely devoid of chaos. An organized and intentionally orchestrated piece of music that’s a testament to Departure’s amazing talent in creating fully fleshed-out sonic paintings. Jazzy, mature and chill, and perfectly in balance with the rest of the song.

Perhaps it’s difficult to sympathize with Departure’s creative struggles after listening to this perfectly paced and arranged piece of instrumental down-tempo music. A complete and immersive listen that’s as introspective in purpose as it is expansive in musicality.

Bass by Evan Veenstra

0

Have you ever heard of a one-man band? Well, that is the case when one artist is playing all of the other instruments introduced to a single album. But have you ever heard of one man’s instrument band? That’s right! Our guy Evan Veenstra composed an album all by himself with a single instrument.

You may hear kinda different sounds of the same instrument such as percussion, melody, harmony, and raw bass, so we demonstrate the band’s members:

Evan Veenstra – Electric Bass

Evan Veenstra – Percussion Bass

Evan Veenstra – Melody Bass

Evan Veenstra – Harmony Bass

And that is Evan Veenstra’s One man’s instrument band!

So who is that ONE-der bassist who decided to produce such a classic in such a way? His name has been repeated all over but there is no need to stop, Evan Veenstra from Gananoque, CanadaDedicated to the exploration of the sonic possibilities of bassEvan Stated.

Evan released an all-bass album and entitled it with the only instrument used ‘Bass’ only consisting of multi-layered tracks of different sounds of bass.

Knowing that the album is mainly a ‘Bass’ concept album was a bit bizarre for me, yet challenging to be played and heard, and reviewed. But just as I heard the album it felt completely different from what I’ve pictured and gave me a feeling that Evan is bluffing and there is no way only an electric bass guitar can sound like this and produce this wide range of tones! It was a mesmerizing wonderful experience.

Genuinely, the composition of the multi-sounds of bass made it easier to be able to listen to every sound individually. As you might get the emotional concept of the track through that one tune of bass only within the track.

Some tracks sounded jazz, some felt like classic rock and others felt like a fusion of the two. It always felt like I’m familiar with this track or that, it felt emotionally connected to the record though it had no words said in it.

Take a listen to the album and I’m sure you’ll find a track that would inspire you to learn to play the bass.

One night in Miami by Izoki

When I listened to “One night in Miami” the new track by producer and composer Izoki I realized that it surprises us with a true work of art, with a lot of varied voices and fun energy.

This track is light, intense, and clever all in just over 3 minutes, showing a lot of variety between Latin, rap, and trap with innovation, it offers a little bit of everything and we get a very impressive score overflowing with talent.

After looking at the quality of Izoki’s voice, we have verified that the lyrics of the track are also eye-catching, eye-catching, intelligent, and very light with an exciting and expressive voice. This is a track that you will enjoy because it will appeal to all who listen to Spanish.

The atmosphere of “One Night in Miami” is perfect and we can dance to it in summer on the sands of Miami beaches. Or listening to it on a nightly trip downtown, it’s hard not to fall in love with it because it’s set to roll out around the world.

If you listen to Izoki’s releases you will be sure that “One night in Miami” reflects a strong evolution in what this artist offers, the production and freshness speaking for themselves here.

This track is accompanied by a music video that we highly recommend reviewing, there is no doubt that this sound we will listen to resonates with us for the rest of the day in our minds after the first time, because the rhythm and its lyrical delivery are in place, and in the end, the track leaves you wanting more which is what sets Izoki apart.

Can’t Keep Choosing You by MARTH feat. Mr Weazley

Dance… Dance… Dance … The lively atmosphere takes you into a fun and simple world full of R&B influences with an electronic twist. This is “Can’t Keep Choosing You” the new solo track by Dutch artist Sascha van Loenen (MARTH) in collaboration with Mr Weazley.

Music is an essential part of van Loenen’s life, influenced by different genres of music from Beethoven to Santana. In the end, he created his project MARTH with a voice that breaks boundaries and various influences, starting his musical career at an early age and performing his singing in major festivals.

MARTH is fond of hip-hop and his sound can be described as a form of “electro-melodic”, always combining elements of hip-hop with reggae, pop, electronic band, and even funk tunes.

“Can’t Keep Choosing You” is the first track from EP U-niverse, which will be released later this year. The tracks choose and discuss specific existential concepts inspired by and discussing characters, events, or ideas from the world in which we live. This track revolves around a strong duel that we all live in between rationality and desires.

Collaborating with an artist like Mr Weazley on “Can’t Keep Choosing You” on RnB and contemporary pop beats created dynamic harmony and a rich, warm vocal performance that made the track electronica upbeat unlike the previous track “Hot Like Sun” The collaborative project with Toeknee Tee was more Fun and active.

In “Can’t Keep Choosing You” every sound comes in and goes out unexpectedly, giving us high energy that makes your feet want to move more! The music is fun and lively with a touch of humor that perfectly fits the summer spirit.

“Can’t Keep Choosing You” is a funk-packed, energy-inducing track that delivers tons of emotionally charged moments through multiple listening processes so we couldn’t turn it off.

Interview with The Chordifiers

0

The Siliguri, Darjeeling, India-based group, The Chordifiers have come together to release a song that’s dedicated to the horrible events happening currently in Ukraine. Definitely has a noble purpose and cause. What does the band think of music that revolves around politics from a broader perspective? And what drove the band to go on this effort? A sense of shared humanity? Or a certain sense of obligation? This is an attempt from us to find out more from the band themselves.

1-What about the Russia-Ukraine conflict in particular that got it in you to write a song about, unlike all other political strifes going on currently in the world?

Well, we are least interested in World politics, which does not inspire but more interested in spreading peace and positivity around the world with our music that inspires people. The war scenario between Ukraine & Russia has led millions to flee their own homes, and even lose their loved ones. That’s unfair & cruel, in the eyes of humanity. What has one achieved, with wars? We don’t want history to repeat itself again, do we?

2-In your point of view, what’s an artist’s role when it comes to an issue such as a war or any social injustice? raising awareness? calling for peace? or else

We must say, that it depends entirely on the artist, their genres of writing their art, and their choices. For example, Michael Jackson’s heal the world has inspired billions and still does but he never composed the song based on any crisis during that time, he wrote the song to inspire hope and humanity.

3-How can an artist write a piece of music that fits a certain context or situation? To what extent do you think the composition and arrangements matter to delivering the message intended?

The inspiration for an artist can be anyone or rather anything. But we must say, the compositions and arrangements matter a lot when it comes to expressing oneself through music. It must be strong, relatable, expressive & relevant to the context, that inspired the artist.

4-What do you think about an artist or a band that does not contribute politically, and prefer to stay out of these cycles? Do you believe artistic freedom extends to this point or do you believe in an artist’s obligation to raise awareness?

Honestly speaking, we must say that there are no wrong answers or right answers when it comes to the field of creative content making, just like we can’t score a perfect 100 out of 100 in English. And overall, what context/scenario inspires an artist is solely up to the artist and his/her taste in making creative content. Yes, we do believe that every artist has the freedom of expression, and definitely, it’s their choice, as to how they might want to showcase themselves to the world.

5-Can fans expect similar songs from the group targeted toward the ongoing political unrest in India? Are there songs already in the making or finished?

That completely depends on the sole importance of the matter(if any), and also depends on what inspires the band. However, we are working on a song that was inspired by real-life scenarios such as global warming, etc.

6-How did ‘Cities On Fire’ come to be? Was it a group decision or more of a solo effort? And which part came first, the words or the music?

“Cities on fire” was inspired by the tragic war events between Ukraine & Russia. It was a group decision and teamwork. Well, the music came first, the guitar backbone to be precise, then the words and the other elements of music just kept on popping.

7-Can fans expect lighter releases soon? Or will the band go on a period of radio silence in commemoration and respect for the victims of this atrocious war?

Yes, definitely. Our fans and The Chordifiers family can expect new & lighter releases soon, while we would also like to pay our deepest condolence to the war victims and would like to keep them, and their dear ones in our prayers.

Thank you guys for humoring my questions.

Green Light by Glow Beets X Tazmin

Another summer anthem is here to fire up those beach parties and take us on a romantic, wild ride on summer nights, a song fit for Ibiza’s wild season. Glow Beets is releasing a two-song campaign this summer and he just dropped his first release “Green Light” featuring the emerging UK singer and songwriter Tazmin. The producer, sound designer, and songwriter decided to reunite with Tazmin after the major success of their first single in 2020 “Tokyo After Dark” which they had to put together over video calls during the first lockdown.

Before we dig deeper into the music, we need to tell you more about who is behind ‘Glow Beets’. It’s the commercial “Alter ego”, as the artist refers to it, of the renowned songwriter and producer Jonny Amos who has worked with talented artists like Shayne Ward, Miss D, Hatty Keane, Marie Lawson, Jackie Paladino, and many others, along with his Sync Credits that include MTV, Sky One, FilmFour and more.

“Green Light” is about a summer romance, now I know how this sounds cliché but with Tazmin’s dreamy voice that’ll take you on a storytelling adventure accompanied by Glow Beets’s remarkable instrumentation and infectious beats, it’ll surely get you moving and singing along. Glow Beets uses a variety of uncommon sounds and instruments that gives it all a whole new flavor, with the Marimbas, Kalimbas, and sub-bass opening the track that is later joined by electric guitars, percussion, and “ear candy ladened synth sections” as the artist mentions.

Glow Beets and Tazmin signed this single to German Label Plasmapool Media Group, which chose XTRXX for this specific release of ‘Green Light’. Check out the artists’ socials and websites for more information on this song and to find out what they’re up to next.
