Losing Myself (In You) by Lilac

0

Who said time machines don’t exist? A living proof that they do, is good music that throw you back in time where the music recreates the vibe you experienced earlier when you were younger.

Our time machine for today is Lilac’s latest single release ‘Losing Myself (in You)’ after releasing three singles previously.

Hailing from Reading, United Kingdom the female-fronted floral Indie band Lilac boosts floral Indie mixed with rock n roll, which implies an early 2000’s vibe to the listeners.

The track begins with a slow beat ride cymbal sound in adjacency with atmospheric synths in the background. At once the drummers begin to drum, and the guitarists begin to strum then the synths once again hit with playful, nostalgic chords.

Sooner Vanessa Carlton’s bastard daughter used her astonishing vocal chords and I just fell in love with her vocals on the spot.

Beth’s vocals drag you subconsciously into the song with her exceptional tone of voice that is almost a mixture in sound between Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton which serves a lot the band’s genre and casts a nostalgic theme.

One of the few things I didn’t really admire about the mastering is the telephone effect used for Beth’s vocals, which wasn’t good in sound, on the other hand, it felt like that she is telling him over the phone that ‘I think I’m losing myself’

Besides Beth’s remarkable vocals, Guitar riffs from her and Lewis also were so much expressive and simple in sound, along with the drumming from Olly who kept the track in shape all along the road.

The band is currently focused on the live music scene and would be holding a lot of gigs in the upcoming months, make sure you book a ticket and lose yourself in them.

EP: B4 by Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L

0

Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L drags you to his world of effortlessly flowing, profound lyricism and smooth, charismatic singing in his latest EP, “B4,” which may be considered your toxic treat EP.

The EP has eight tracks with well-structured production, engaging beats, and a snappy fusion of R&B, Hip-Hop, Emo Rap, Trap, and Electro elements. The bold, straightforward lyricism is not easy to agree with, but some may find them relatable, and most can’t deny how their exquisite rhyming is appealing. Vocally, Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L has raw, charismatic, and raspy vocal lines.

“Caskets” opens off the EP with an enticing intro. Once the intro makes you pay attention, Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L enters with his serious savage performance and lyrics that fit the song’s title and make a perfect introduction to Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L’s artistic characteristics and to what’s coming in the rest of the EP. The next song, “Mr. Bright Eyes,” makes you sway with its grooves. The beats are catchy and mash well with the polished vocals. The lyrics lean towards being dark and explicit.

Picking up the pace in “Taurus,” featuring Michael Christmas. The bar after another flows naturally to fit with the hazy melody and dynamic percussion as buzzle parts that combine to give you the whole picture. “Protocol,” “In My Shoes,” and “T.D.I.M,” which features Kodie Shane, are the singles with the energetic rhythms, fast pace, and enticing sing-along attitude. Each has its own vibes, composition, and solid lyricism, but you can feel the peppy ambiance in all of them with the electro elements, top-notch hip-hop, and edgy touch.

The best has been saved for last. The EP’s lead single, “K.O.H,” is the standout track and the one that gets played on repeat. It’s irresistible, with lyrics that depict love and attraction from an unusual perspective. It has a music video that makes you feel like you’re seeing Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L from both the inside and outside. The EP concludes with “B.E.C (Baconeggandcheese).” The EP may have started with a mellow base, but as it progresses it takes us on a stormy wave, and in this track the wave gets higher with the Trap bouncy beats.

The Brooklyn-based artist has outdone himself and made an EP that makes you ditch your favorite adrenaline-pumping playlist for a while and replace it with “B4.”

Vampire by Ciao!

0

I found it very hard starting to put pen to paper writing about today’s song. From an artist’s point of view as well as a listener and a human being.

The song comes from Ciao! An NYC-based artist. I could not find their real name but was able to share his feelings. Trying not to be blunt, Ciao! has been struggling with cancer, through treatment, remission, and a considerable amount of confusion and uncertainty, which he tries to portray using sound.

What really struck me during my first couple of playthroughs is that I never realized that the song even looped. Starting to doubt my sense of time, I checked and found that the song has been on repeat for twelve minutes… it’s only three minutes long.

Ciao! achieved this through a minimalistic beat that loops endlessly unchanged, laying on top of it sparse layers of synths, vocals, and various other effects. the effect is hazy, sleepy and paradoxically tense, and unsettling. Not pleasant, and never nefarious. Just… weird. He sings of massive pains, hotel beds made of fire, and waking up at midnight being dissected. I particularly think that likening his terrible sickness to a ‘bird through a window’ and being shot by a ‘poison dart’ was potent and effective.

A difficult song to get through for sure. Heartfelt and passionate and brutally honest. I sincerely wish Ciao! a full and permanent recovery, as well as endless steadfastness in his hard battle. I also wish him all the best on his upcoming album release. And to many more albums full of songs that are just as honest and heartfelt, but about far more positive emotions and situations.

Issues (Can you let go of me?) by Rylai

0

In a genre that accommodates a vast range of individualities, it’s difficult to stand out. When you’re this free to stand out and do yourself, your creativity becomes the sole thing that can set you apart, blend you in with the crowd, or just get you lost entirely.

Rylai is a passionate Seoulite, with a distinctive brand of music, somewhere at the crossroads between R&B, Neo-soul, and Hip-hop. So, does it stand out? Difficult to say based on this song alone. The very first thing that hits is a lush acoustic guitar strumming an emotive chord progression alongside the only bit of processed vocals on this song before Rylai starts singing, and it might be his singing that truly elevates this song to its great height.

A truly capable performer in regards to range and control, an amazing ear for melody, and an overall sweet timbre. Effective lyricist too, with heart-pulling words that are way distanced from your usual genre stereotypes. And with a simplistic backing that’s borderline sparse, all that is given ample space to shine and show.

There might not be a specific area where Rylai fails to deliver on this song. Production, arrangements, instrument choices, words, and voice… are all quite on point. Yet, still, there is an untouchable quality that lets it down… you see, if R&B artists can lend almost an individualistic quality to their respective sonic brands, Rylai’s quality would be of a great guy! A stand-up guy to befriend and go on road trips with. Not that of a superstar who’s bound to international stardom. An all-around great effort that’s very sweet, but struggles to achieve uniqueness.

In the Dance by Jenni Dale Lord

Jenni Dale Lord recently released their 13-track album “In the dance”. They’re a band hailing from Lubbock, United States, and the lineup consists of Jenni Dale Lord on vocals and acoustic guitar, Aaron Dick on keys and backing vocals, Andrew Mason on bass and backing vocals, Judson Eddins on electric guitar, and finally Terry more on drums and percussion. It’s worth noting that this album was produced by the renowned producer Scott Faris.

My absolute favorite track off the album (and also the longest) is “I won’t give up”. This song made me instantly fall in love with this band! Lord’s vocals made me melt, and with the beautiful guitars, I was instantly sold. Another favorite of mine was definitely “It takes one to know one”. It reminds me of 90’s Toni Braxton, and the vocals in the song are immaculate. I loved the mellow, relaxed vibe of the song. You would probably find a couple adding this to their wedding playlist to slow dance to! One of the tracks that definitely caught my eye was “Once you go bourbon”. Smart choice to begin the album with this song, with lord’s solid vocals, paired with talented instrumentalists (and a surprise harmonica!) it was an instant sell.

Kudos to all of the members for finding each other, and creating such beautiful creations. Jenni Dale Lord is definitely one of the vocalists that will make it big, with her emotional, heart voice, and alongside her talented band members, no wonder they garnered more than 30k streams on Spotify alone!

Talking Loud by Ajay Mathur

0

Once again we are astounded by the brilliance of Ajay Mathur as he releases his newest studio album entitled Talking Loud two years after his album Shanti Suri Ji Ke Bhajan with more versatile content.

The 13 pieces in said album can take you on a trip quite literally through the history of music so let us see what he has to offer.

1- Sooner or Later

The song starts with a chord progression that can take you back to the summer of ’07 and gives you that feeling where you’re at a pool party dancing with your friends and got nothing to worry about the next day, the feeling of the drumbeat really is mixed very well with both the guitars at the chorus and the snares are well timed. Ajay surprises us with a very chill reverb on his vocals and a guitar solo that sends you back to the 80s. The chorus is so catchy and it is something that you won’t regret having stuck in your head for days. Shout out to the amazing backing vocals.

2- Real

Now that’s what I call Nostalgia. Back in the day, I used to listen to a lot of Johnny Cash and was then introduced to country music. This song takes me back to when I was 9 years old and felt the cosiness and warmth of the countryside. The fingerpicking is on point instead of strumming Major chords. Vocals are mixed very well with the music you can hear every note played in this soundtrack.

3- Don’t want the phone to ring

I guess this is something I would agree on with Ajay, to be honest. However, if this soundtrack was my ringtone I would have it ring forever. The slow tempo, clean chords and the very low notes of the bass really bring up that chillax feeling that 80s rock n’ roll music used to bring. The lyrics are just on point and are something we all can relate to at a certain point.

4- Ain’t going nowhere

You see, from that point, saying he is a man of passion would be an understatement. The man shows what he is willing to do just to ensure his lover stays alongside him. Now that is a song you’d wish to be featured at your wedding don’t you think? The off-beat in the drum beat just shows how much effort he put into the creation of this album. I really love it when the drummer is playing with so many different colors ensuring that the track has feelings because the drummer is the soul of the music group. Something that really grips me is the unique vocals of Ajay and how really it is the spotlight of the full album yet not stealing all the thunder from the rest of the music.

5- Talking loud

The title track of the album. A bit funky? No. It has a lot of funk. The first thing I wanted to do is to dance my behind off when I first listened to the funky chords strummed during the track along with the funky beats. I like the synergy of the whole guitar and drums sections and how well the Vocals are mixed on top. Vocals give the song the spirit it requires to be honest and I couldn’t think/fathom how more perfect it can get. The bassline is just the start of this song. In my humble opinion, the Vocals and the bass line in this track are the best things about this track and the Sax on top gives you that Jazzy feeling that is also enhanced once you reach the guitar solo section.

6- Anytime at all

Piano. That was very unexpected. It is so beautiful as it is soloed with the vocals on a minor scale that made me shiver. I teared up upon listening to the lyrics. Ajay knows how to choose his words that make you cry. If you feel depressed I recommend you listen to this song that will make you instantly feel better.

7- Stop the shame

Upon hearing the first couple of seconds of the soundtrack I thought to myself Pink Floyd -you can really hear the influence. The drum beat is very impressive and it only enhances the rest of the instruments and doesn’t steal the thunder. This song reminds me of high hopes by Pink Floyd. It just shows how many different styles and topics Ajay can sing about and shows how talented and versatile he is.

8- I need you now

Now that is a song that will for sure take you to a different place literally. The song starts with the sitar which is a stringed Indian instrument. you’d think it will not be mixed well with other instruments? you thought wrong, it only adds more momentum and makes the track sound more beautiful. Gave me the feeling I am watching a 90’s movie directed by Tim Burton that will definitely have the happiest of endings.

9- Deeper than your skin

Man, I think if I was using a pen and paper I would run out of ink because there are not enough words to express how amazing Ajay’s Vocals are. I would honestly isolate the music and just listen to his calming deep voice over and over. The music as well really enhances the endorphins in your mind if you’re having a bad day, it is like the moment when the first sip of coffee hits your brain cells. Now this song is something I will really consider slow dancing to it with my fiance at our wedding. The backing vocals are not any different than the main vocals as well, it is really quite amazing and yet it also has its moments in the spotlight. This track gives you what Bob Marley feels when he is singing to a woman he loves. It works like magic. Thank you Ajay for teaching me new pickup lines ;).

10- Common Mistake

The mix of bass/drums/keys/guitars and vocals make you feel you’re in a late 2000s sitcom and you’re about to have the time of your life on a very fun/learning adventure. as the vocals escalate you will get more enchanted by the second. Moving on to the very catchy chorus and very catchy lyrics, I would like to hear that song live with my friends. This is something we’d share a beer while listening to and get deep in the mood because “we make a common mistake”. But listening to this soundtrack is the farthest thing from being a mistake. Especially if you’re a fan of pipe organs.

11- Stuck on 75

Jazz. The first thing I thought of when I listened to this was “JAZZ”. As I said this album takes you on an adventure throughout the history of music now I feel like I am back in the 40s and enjoying a jazz band like my great grandparents would in their nightlives. Dancing in a suit and tie I mean.

12- Comedian

If you ask me, This is the highlight of the album. I personally added this to my favorite playlist. The work on the string section and the Vocal harmonies is just amazing. This actually reminds me of two different art factions I personally adore, DC Comics and Queen “the band” as it reminds me of the Comedian from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and somehow made me relate with the feelings of the character. The lack of percussion is what makes this song both unique and memorable.

13- Reasons to cry

This is the slowest tempo in the album so far and it will give you “Reasons to cry”. Ajay really knows how to deliver all the emotions using his voice and his musical talent. As the song progresses the lyrics go deeper. The mix of stringed instruments (Violins, Sitars, Guitars.. etc) is really well mixed, you can literally hear and feel every note played in this record.

Crybaby by Josy B

Josy B is a Latina and Puerto Rican artist who is currently based in the USA. She’s always had a passion for music and has been singing since she was 5, so she decided to pursue her dream career and release her own music as an independent music artist. The artist is inspired and influenced by Aliyah and Mariah Carey; it reflects so much in her style that you could see an undoubtful Mariah Carey resemblance. The artist favors living with an “Always Keeping it real” attitude and that is interpreted by how personal her music is. She recently went through a painful breakup and what better way to deal with heartbreak than through music? She released a song last year “Crybaby”, a trendy track with a hip-hop beat and some pop elements. The song is about a guy she broke up with and is trying to come back when it’s already too late, so she decided to tease him by saying that he’s acting like a crybaby. The song already has over 90K streams on Spotify and over 19K views on YouTube. Her music is personal, with real catchy lyrics and a chill mood. The song was recorded by Travis House who works with the famous artist Sidnie Tipton. The artist released a new single this year “BTW”, in just 3 months that song already has 62K streams on Spotify, leaving the artist at an amazingly high number of almost 13K monthly listeners. Josy B is an artist worth keeping an eye on.
