A Pretty Good Picture by MOUNTAIN CLIMER

0

One of the cruel facts of life is that from time to time we have to say goodbye to people we love, as death wins. After losing them, all we have left are memories in our minds and pictures of our best moments together. Mountain Climer’s “A Pretty Good Picture” is an emotional Folk take that paints quite a picture of how we deal with losing close people.

“No one dies gracefully. It’s about remembering people at their best, not at the end.” Says Jeremy Climer, the talented musician behind Mountain Climer’s musical project, and I have to agree with this one. We will always remember our loved ones by how they lived their lives, not by how they had to say goodbye for good.

I’m listening to this song while dealing with a recent loss, and it really gives me solace. This is why I love music! Sincere artists like Mountain Climer convey their personal experiences through their touching art, and listeners like me feel that they are not alone.

Everything about the song is graceful and heartfelt. The mellow acoustic playing along with the warm, poignant vocals offer a serene feel. The harmonica adds a joyous hint, which eases the sentimental intensity. It’s a bittersweet combination, but with the lighthearted melody and sincere performance, you’ll feel comforted more than aching.

It was an overwhelming listening experience; however, I loved every bit of it. Mountain Climer is a genuine artist, and he’s got authentic music to offer. He’s currently preparing three EPs and a full-length LP, and I can’t wait to hear them. Stay tuned so you get to enjoy them too!

Get Back Your Fight by Sarah Reeves

0

Sarah Reeves walks us through her mental health journey in her latest single, “Get Back Your Fight,” which is the first song written and produced solely by her. It’s an uplifting pop journey, yet it’s intimate and touching.

“Get Back Your Fight” went viral on social media with only the first verse and chorus, and Reeves was challenged to complete the song. The fruit of that challenge is this empowering song that not only expresses Reeves’s struggles but also that many can relate to and feel comforted by.

The song starts off with optimistic piano notes, and once Reeves’ vocals enter, the atmosphere becomes brighter. At first, her vocal line sounds dulcet and silky, but as the song progresses, we witness a powerful performance by the gifted artist’s captivating voice.

Every element of the song carries both dark and light hints. You can feel the down moments, yet you can feel the triumph of overcoming them. The hooking chorus gives a breakfree feel and urges one to not give up, no matter how hard healing is.

The instrumentals progress from lighthearted to epic, aligning with the splendid vocal delivery and the sincere lyricism of the emotional rollercoaster. Unlike the delightful piano, the strings add depth and an edgy ambiance, which strikes a balance. The entire production is solid and serves to deliver the message and inspire the listener.

Sarah Reeves is undoubtedly a talented musician, and she’s using her skills to convey her personal experiences as well as others’. “Get Back Your Fight” is her third release this year, following “Jealousy” and “Wanna Be Here.” There is new music on the way, leading up to a new full-length LP expected this fall. So stay tuned!

Interview with Flora

0

Today we are blessed with UK-based singer-songwriter Flora, who’s been featured on BBC’s live lounge and had a streak of successful singles. She’s set to release her new single entitled ‘Easy’ with its accompanying music video that depicts a day full of inconveniences and small annoyances that keep getting under Flora’s skin. I had the pleasure of interviewing the amazing Flora and asking her a few questions.

  1. First of all, I’d like to thank you for giving us some of your precious time. I’m pretty sure you’ve been busy lately preparing for your music video release and other projects. Would you please tell me how you started making music in the first place?

Music is something that has been around me since before I can remember- both my parents were heavily influenced by music and so I don’t really remember a time where it hasn’t been in my life, but I started my own writing career when I was gifted a ukulele for Christmas 2016, I was 12 at the time.

2. What was your biggest inspiration, if any, when growing up? Did you consider making a living off of music when you were young?

This is a tough one for me because I’m not sure I have one out right inspiration- I’ve always been more inspired by how everyone in this industry has their own image and message to send, and how people stay true to themselves whilst they do it. As for myself, I honestly saw myself going into theatre- which is still something I plan to do at some point. It wasn’t until I started writing songs that I realised I could make a living off of it.

3. So on your previous singles and music videos you’ve had some really remarkable moments and some recognition that most beginner artists don’t get. Would you mind telling me what moment or achievement surprised you the most?

Honestly the biggest shock to me was looking on my Spotify one day and seeing that I had hit 60,000 monthly listeners after the release of long road home- I couldn’t get my head around the fact that so many people had taken interest in my music! I’m incredibly grateful for that, as well as some of the gigs I’ve had the honour of playing- plying in the Union Chapel is not something I’ll forget anytime soon.

4. The new single ‘Easy’ is clearly about inconveniences and having a bad/messed up day, but I want you to elaborate and tell us what inspired you to write those lyrics and the video concept.

‘Easy’ is truly a reflection on my discontent towards insignificant interactions- to put it simply, I’m fed up of people in passing saying ‘you okay?’ with no regard for a response more than ‘yeah, you?’ for me, Easy was about putting my foot down and saying ‘stop asking if you don’t care’. It was written in the studio on a day where the negative in my mind far out weighed the positive, and to be frank, I just wanted to go home- as for the video, the outfit inspiration was that of a typical business look, and the idea behind it was that office feel of doing the same things day in and day out, just to make ends meet- in this video, I, as flora am using that narrative but breaking out of it, wondering about in these fancy clothes, not doing the things I should be doing, but instead dancing around talking about the fact I hate doing these things- it was supposed to be a fun way of saying ‘I’m over it, from now on, no fake niceties’

5. What are your plans for the near future? An album? A tour?

As for the near future, I’m currently working on an EP with plans to release it on the way- but for now, I’ve got gigs lined up, and I’m doing my best to promote myself and try build up a fan base!

6. It’s a no-brainer being a musician can be so dire nowadays, but are there ways to make money with music or to maintain a certain level of income from a musical project?

Honestly to live off music money by its self is not something I’ve been able to achieve yet, it would be a wonderful scenario but in this day and age, you only get that when you hit a big peak- money can be made from gigs and streams but at this current moment- I’m also working a second job to keep me afloat.

7. Do you play your own instruments/ beats in the songs or have guests and collaborators record? Please take me through your music making process and how you demo/record new projects.

When recording my demos, it’s all me and the help of the trusted Garage band- I use a mix of the garage band presets and Spitfire audio labs to create my demos, before working with my producer, the amazing Livingstone Brown- who helps me bring my ideas to life- I play most of the live instruments like the Guitar, Baritone (and sometimes some fun accents on the glockenspiel) and Livingstone programs the drums makes some wicked bass lines and puts it all together in a way that resonates with both of us- it would be impossible for me to do it completely on my own and I’m so grateful for the support I get!

8. Do you write lyrics about any and every topic that comes to mind or do you have (a) certain topic(s) you usually include in your lyrics?

There are certain topics that tend to come up more in my songs, but really I could write about anything. Music for me is an outlet, so pretty much any scenario I’ve ever been in probably has a song written about it, but the more impacted by it I am, the more likely it is to come up again and again- the biggest thing for me is making sure I tell the story accurately to how I felt within that moment.

9. I’m not the kind of person that likes to label or stereotype songs, but if you were explaining your material to a person who’s discovering it for the first time, what genre would you call your songs?

The genre of my songs is something I find really difficult to pin point myself, in all honestly, I ask other people what they think it is in order to get a clearer idea myself- but for now I’ll say, they start of pretty influenced by folk and the production elements give it more of an indie/pop feel… so maybe folk/indie/pop?

10. Thank you for answering my question. I hope the new single gets the mainstream success and exposure it deserves.

Thank you so much for having me! It’s been a pleasure answering these questions! <3

Easy by Flora

0

The latest single from UK-based singer-songwriter Flora is called ‘Easy’, and it is a very special Alt Folk/Alt Pop piece with clever lyrics about having a day full of inconveniences and small things that can get under your skin. The song has an accompanying music video showing Flora trying to mind her own business, but her surroundings and all the people around her won’t let that happen.

The song’s short (two and a half minutes) duration and well-written lyrics make an amazing delivery of both the meaning and the emotion behind it. Flora’s singing with the lower part of her chest register, with some layers used for dunning that take the lower and higher harmonies…I would’ve loved to see Flora’s recording studio and how she makes this stack of different sounds work together.

The industrial/electronic kind of beat and percussion that play behind it sound so modern and fresh. The only other artist I could think of that makes similar arrangements in her songs may be Billie Eilish, but believe me when I tell you Flora sounds a lot more mature and emotionally honest than Billie. I loved this song and added it to my pop favourites playlist, and in my non-humble and biased opinion, I think that you should do so too.

EP: Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I by Nick Marks

0

Have you ever felt like most people around you have a specific music genre that they like best while you have a diverse taste and like to listen to unrelated genres and artists with totally different musical flairs? Well, maybe your distinct taste is not very common, but it exists, and there are musicians who embrace that diversity. Musicians like Nick Marks juggle genres like a pro and marry them to give us his own original sound and atmosphere. The New York-based Australian artist just released his debut EP, “Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I,” where you get to be immersed in cinematic and orchestral flavors blending with jazztronica, lo-fi, neo-soul, hip-hop, and other hints in the magical fusion.

Nick Marks’ appealing synthesis of concert music and film scoring has weaved a phenomenon EP where you get to enjoy every nuance of the two realms. The fittingly titled “Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I” features four tracks and is the first in a three-part series, where the following parts, Vols. II and III, will be released in 2024. It’s an outstanding introduction to what Marks has under his belt. His authentic artistry isn’t something one witnesses every day. It’s an edgy and groovy journey, where every stop is structured with the layered sensitivities of jazz and electronica’s smooth integration.

The EP starts off epically with the two-part track “Prelude/Arc of Light.” The track’s prelude has a chill cinematic arrangement, which offers the film’s scoring feel. After a minute, the track progresses from a dark ambiance to a bright color palette. The orchestral composition is stellar; with this cosmic sound, you’ll be invited to both outer space and the dance floor.

Moving to “Dorongo” to enjoy the funky rhythms. A futuristic synth unlocks the journey’s next stop, where the flute, trumpet, and keys go wild together, the orchestra adds textures of sophistication to the spectacular unleashed wildness, and then all harmonize to end the track with a bang.

“Paradiso” opens warmly with a lush jazz divinity that soothes one’s soul. Once you surrender to the positively melodic vibe, an upbeat wave of joyous synth and passionate orchestra will gently hit you. It’s an intense listening experience that will take you up to cloud nine.

Wrapping up the EP with Marks’ debut single, “Ride the Dragon,” which draws a spiritual vibe at one time and sounds like a video game’s ost at another. Either way, it’s energizing. The flute, along with the orchestra, soars high, while the glowing synth and the spirited drumming add a hyper touch.

To fit the EP’s elated, genuine spirit, the artwork by renowned artist Cam “Quetzilla” Rousset is cinematic and chromatic, gathering both the electronica fiery sense and the jazz bluey sense.

This is the kind of music you need to listen to when you want to get hyped and enjoy tensity and lightness composed together through a bundle of elements tied seamlessly together. You’ll be on the edge of your seat throughout the 20-minute journey. Enjoy the euphoric ride!

Bob Marley Had a Shooting Range by EXPLODING PIG

0

What do you get when you mix explosions, pigs, jazz, blues, reggae, and Bob Marley?

You get the awesome new single “Bob Marley Had a Shooting Range” from the awesome band Exploding Pig!

Exploding Pig doesn’t see limitations, they see opportunities…they mixed reggae and jazz to create a new hybrid sound…and they won big with that.

This sound can only be heard at the hands of Exploding Pig…and these are the hands of…

Luis Bonilla on trombone

Fabio Schurischuster on guitar

Albrecht Klinger on bass

Bernhard Wimmer on drums

…I love the fact they have been described as “Jazz Futura” or “Jazz meets 70’s porn music”…that’s very cool.

This awesome musical group is based in Vienna, Austria, but their music knows no boundaries…it’s a mix of so many things…

“Bob Marley Had a Shooting Range” starts with some reggae sounds like the iconic rhythmic pattern of the organ, and the percussions…but then the jazzy trombone speaks…then the blues guitar jumps in…

The track is a conversation, led by the trombone and the guitar…with their backdrop being a mix of jazz and reggae beat sections fused together.

Exploding Pig is giving the world something new…and something worth experiencing…actually it would be a highly recommended experience to kick back and chill to.

We wish the awesome people of Exploding Pig all the best…we can’t wait to hear more of that unique sound they masterfully crafted.

Cheers!

On The Edge (choir Version) by ERIC COHEN

0

Eric Cohen released the choir version of his single “On The Edge”…a huge-sounding spiritual experience of a song that fuses gospel, choir, and hip-hop together in a tightly wrapped song form.

Eric is based in Kansas City, a city with a strong history with music in general…an icon in the world of music for sure.

“On The Edge” talks about a very difficult and heavy topic…a topic that might not be very welcome in any household, or media even.

Disclaimer, just make sure you’re ready to embark on a pretty dark journey, with a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

“On The Edge” discusses suicide and being on the edge of life…but also, it’s also about reaching out to the savior, the only one who can help us in such a dark time.

Eric’s religious background is surely one of the foundations for creating this lyrical and musical experience.

“On The Edge”, the choir version has some authentic hip-hop beats, electric guitar licks, a huge-sounding choir…and Eric’s vocal flow that is extremely storytelling and super smooth.

Even though the topic is pretty heavy, it’s something that happens in the world…and Eric wants to address and guide people who might have found themselves on this edge…Eric’s message might actually save a life.

Coming from a tough life experience that Eric was in…now he wants to help anyone who faces the same darkness as he once faced and give them hope.

The world needs more of what Eric is doing, an artist who leverages his talents to extend a helping hand to the people of the world.

Thank you, Eric, we wish you all the best and we can’t wait for more lyrical and musical experiences from you.

Cheers!

Waterfalls by NADINE RANDLE

0

Nadine Randle just released her latest single “Waterfalls”…a huge-sounding pop opus magnum that instantly catches the hearts and souls of audiences.

Nadine’s vocal performance here is epic, to say the least.

The Swedish artist amassed more than 50K listens in 5 only 5 days!

“Waterfalls” shows what a huge range Nadine can actually soar through…in short, if you mix Adele, Katy Perry, and Olivia Rodrigo, you’ll get Nadine Randle.

Nadine’s “Waterfalls” is an upbeat, energetic, and emotionally evocative piece of lyrical and musical mastery…while the song starts out on the slow side, it has very energetic and huge-sounding choruses.

The musical direction of having two distinct energies to the song is quite brilliant…we have the energetic chorus and the subtle verses…and sometimes they interchange this energy.

Melody is always king…and Nadine’s vocal melodies are queen here.

Nadine went on a promotional tour during 2020-2021 in the US and US Arab Emirates there she supported acts such as French Montana, Lauryn Hill, Lionel Richie, and One Republic.

The success and worldwide acclaim that Nadine already has didn’t make her flinch in raising the bar for everyone, including herself…she always challenges herself and believes that nothing is impossible…she’s proof of that.

I wish all the best to Nadine, she deserves the best.

Can’t wait for more from Nadine…and I hope to see Nadine more on stage too.

Cheers!

Château by REIS

0

25-year-old French, Versaillian artist Reis, with her angelic voice, came up with a new style, a style that she pioneered and sits on its artistic peak…royal pop.

Her latest single “Château” further establishes that unique style.

Reis’ royal pop has more than one side to it, it’s not only the audio that makes it come to life, actually, Reis also plays a character who evolves in the world of female royalty, with baroque style dresses, accessories, and wigs from the royal period…and that is how you create a new world…you create the sound and the visuals to it.

Reis is signed to the Hit Tone Records label…and with more than 6k followers on Instagram and Facebook together, she’s been featured on major radio stations including NRJ and Radio Shalom…

Reis’ latest single “Château” is a very colorful pop hit that captures the audiences’ souls right from the very beginning with the baroque style intro along with the harp pizzicato strings and a very ear-catching instrument that sounds like a music box, the one that has a ballerina dancing.

“Château” combines that baroque style of instruments and musical progression along with modern pop staples that include a thumping kick, claps, synths, and some amazing soundscapes…and of course a very tight, catchy, and melodic bass line.

Reis manages to capture any audience type with her angelic and smooth vocals, her catchy and hybrid music, and the energy her song has…”Château” is upbeat, energetic, and very, very melodic…it will have you sing along in no time…or if you’re like me, it will have you humming along because I don’t speak french!

We wish Reis all the best in her life, she deserves the best.

Can’t wait to experience her upcoming songs…it’s going to be awesome.

Cheers!

M’akoma mu toffee by XY BIRD

0

London-based musical duo XY Bird released their 4th single “M’akoma Mu Toffee” on the first day of September…and it’s a song that we needed for a long time…an absolute soul-lifting experience.

xybird is the brainchild of Daisy, the singer, and Andrew, the composer and guitarist.

“M’akoma Mu Toffee” is dreamy, airy, peaceful, full of love, bright, colorful…just plain mesmerizing…

…and on top of all of this, it released an amazing music video…it’s the exact representation of all of the amazing emotions we just described…it’s perfection.

“M’akoma Mu Toffee” has almost all of its lyrics in English…except the title…which is actually spoken in Twi, a Ghanaian language and it means sweetheart, but the literal translation, which what very interesting to know, is ‘the sweetness/toffee inside my heart’…who wouldn’t love to be described as that?

The song has strong afro beats, mixed with folk guitars, amazing vocals, and stunning and super melodic backing vocals that feel to be fitting perfectly…the song comes to life and brings us closer to life.

The emotional delivery of the vocals going hand in hand with the musical production that feels folky and raw…is such a brilliant direction.

…with the steady kick beat along with the amazing Afro beats and percussions…there’s movement in the song that is almost nowhere to be found anywhere else.

“M’akoma Mu Toffee” is a must-listen, a highly recommended song that will surely make you feel so much better instantly.

I would recommend checking it out first on YouTube so you also check out the music video, which will elevate the experience…and it will stick with you on each subsequent listen of the song, even when you’re not watching the video.

We wish XY Bird all the best and we can’t wait for the next life-elevating song experience that they’ll release…we’re that excited.

Cheers!
