Sunny by Lukx

0

Nils Malmport’ Lukx is a project born out of father-son collaborations. Pumping out solid, elegant, chill Euro R&B, with great standards of quality in the production and lyrics departments.

Based in Ramillies, Belgium. A little south of Brussels, which is a little south of the sea, ironically, this song is the perfect beach bop. Summery, chill, driving, and warm. The rich production is made even richer by solid songwriting and lyricism. Groovy beats on top of an emotional chord progression, and heartfelt singing. Tingles, bells, and many flittering effects playing sweet little melodies fade in and out of views like small birdies hopping all over the place, on top of a solid sub-bass groove and an expertly crafted trap beat.

Lukx’s Sunny is a down-tempo, R&B piece that asks deep questions, imploring the listeners to jump into whatever they fear most, headfirst. With a stunning combination of French rap sections, almost at a whisper level, emotionally sung parts with bluesy melodies, sweetly familiar chord progressions, and beautiful production, it’s all here.

Take It to The Floor ft. Steven J. Collins by Lacañgan

0

The San Diego-born artist and entrepreneur Lacañgan is multidisciplinary to put it slightly. Acting writes songs, produces them, gigging, and dedicates time to his business. It’s safe to say that most of us could use a lesson or two in time management from Lacañgan. What we’re concerned with though is his music-making abilities, which are on display in his latest musical offering, Take It To The Floor.

Featuring x3 Grammy nominee Steven J. Collins, Take It to The Floor promises nothing more than solid danceability. If you want a dance, this song will give it to you, readily. Such a shame, as Lacañgan could have easily betted far more than just a solid dance with this song. The production is certainly the brightest star in an ensemble of stars here. Warm, boomy bass knits the whole song together, swiftly shifting from funky syncopated riffing to tight melodic playing. The composition is heartfelt and endlessly emotional, making use of cliché progressions that perfectly fit the role. The singing and melodies are also quite sweet and show solid singing talent, proving Lacañgan to not only be multidisciplinary but also multi-talented.

Take It To The Floor can surely get your body moving on the dancefloor, and in this regard, Lacañgan delivered on his promise. But Take It To The Floor can also make you bob your head in contemplation over its melodic sections, and in admiration of how well put together, it is in all the other sections. A sweet, soulful, and funky gem.

Pokey Light by July

Get Myself Out by Beyond The Sun

0

Toronto-based Alt. Rock trio “Beyond The Sun” strikes a familiar chord once more with their latest single Get Myself Out. The single is partly a blast from the not-too-far-past, meaning that it has the skeleton of 2000s anthemic Pop-Rock, but is also a modern and fresh-sounding piece as well. The sound of energizing guitar chords with some pounding drums starts off the song with the lyrics

“Looking at my face in the mirror

The circles under my eyes

I’ve been lost for months

Still sleeping on the inside”

Such lyrics reminded me of how it is another 2000s tradition to have lyrics that deal with mental and personal issues during the song’s verses, only to meet them with a bombastic and hopeful chorus. And this is exactly what Get Myself Out does. There is a short silence before the drums and vocals roar the chorus with full force. The processing/effects on the vocals make it feel like a whole choir is singing together in harmony. By the time we reach the second chorus, there is an uplifting synth line that takes us to the bridge and one final chorus before the calm intro with which the song fades out and ends. What brothers Phil, Dalton, and Colin Radu started as a family project is now panning out to be one of the most promising Alternative Rock acts in Canada and probably the whole Alternative scene too. It’s always a pleasure to hear songs that are based on a catchy hook and stompy drum beat that will unite many different tastes and demographics. I salute the three brothers for their sweet new tune and their love of writing anthemic and catchy songs.

Take A Stand by Jaded Jane

0

The latest single from Gothenburg-based artist Jaded Jane is a testament that pop songs can be full of innovative lyrics and cool instrumentation. Take A Stand is a soft-rock number that will appeal to RnB, Soul, and Pop fans alike. It’s easily accessible and doesn’t require attention to detail for pop listeners to like and appreciate it for what it is. Being a soft song, a slow tempo feels like a necessity, which is further complimented by the tenderness of Axel Jane’s voice giving this song much-needed warmth in the times of silence between the notes. It has a pretty similar vibe to the song Try by P!nk. There are some added female backing vocals that are subtle but also stress out the narrative in the lyrics. Speaking of which, I didn’t expect such deep and insightful lyrics from the singer-songwriter genre to be honest, as they deal with one-dimensional topics most of the time. But I have to say that Axel Jane hit jackpot with this single. Giving each other love and nourishing those around us till they can “take a stand” is the beautiful message encapsulated in this dreamy track. The bass guitar was played by Axel’s brother, Adam Jane & the guitar by Jerry Sillah, with the song being co-written with Markus Sundvall. The song also features Erik Bodin from Little Dragon & is mixed by Roberto Laghi, which made the sound balanced and polished. This is an easy listen on a lazy afternoon that won’t require more than open ears and an open heart to its message. Cheers.

Babylon Money by Italee

0

Italee brings us the pure essence of Reggae music with her single, Babylon Money.

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, it is known that no one carries a claim for making good Reggae more than the Jamaican, and in this song, Italee makes it very easy to see why that is the case. An incredibly sensitive and melodic number, heartfelt, well-produced, well-sung, and well-intentioned.

Italee directs an honest message to the youth of today, opening their eyes to the injustices and inequalities of the world that we currently occupy. She does so through a textbook reggae rhythm section of warm and driving bass with consistent rimshot-centered beats. The chord progressions are dynamic and are a good lesson to all of those that believe that Reggae is a matter of I-IV-V progressions in either major or minor with no third alternative. The melodies are also heartfelt and are sung with purpose with all the Reggae swagger that makes the flow of words pop out with intense character and color.

Reggae is a rich culture of tradition that should be discovered through an array of outlets, and what Italee provides is nothing less than another outlet to be added to this vast canon. Modern, professionally-produced Reggae, with a meaningful message, and a powerful voice to convey it.

Pokey Lights by July

“Pokey Lights” is a new R&B single shining on the horizon by the arising star July, which you’ll find refreshing, soothing, and warm in its sound.

The London-based passionate musician isn’t new to music; he’s been making music since childhood. And for the past few years, he’s been making a name for himself in the R&B/Soul scene with his own distinct, blended sound.

His latest single, “Pokey Lights,” is ear candy. It doesn’t need a specific atmosphere, season, place, or company; it will put you in a good mood anyway. In addition to the R&B signature, it has a trap flavor that adds more spirit.

Some light synth notes open the song, giving a promising feeling for what’s coming next. The rhythms and vocals mash together in a harmony, offering a chilling, delightful sense. The beats bounce smoothly, giving the right amount of energy amidst the relaxing vibe.

With his velvety, dulcet vocals, July delivers a charismatic, soulful performance. He portrays the poetic lyrics with ease and goes with the flow naturally. His voice has a warm timbre that feels like the time when the sun is starting to rise.

I’ve said the song fits every mood, time, and place, but picturing a perfect scene for it by being inspired by its sound and atmosphere, it’s the moments in front of the sea, looking at the dark, getting lighter and brighter with the sun rising, along with increasing the volume to the max.

July’s subtlety structures quality music that can easily stand out in the R&B genre yet be likable to other genre lovers because of his talent and crafted fusion is hard to withstand.

Cool by Mia Delamar

One of the most beautiful voices that please us these days, is the young American singer Mia Delamar, who brings us her new single “Cool”, which is characterized by melodic lines and harmony that makes us unable to do anything but listen to it.

This sweet and smooth voice tells us a life experience about the difficulty of situations and intensity, and this creates a wonderful balance that contributes to conveying the magic of Delamar’s singing, which contains beautiful arrangements, also contributed by mixing touches of electronic rhythms with organic instruments.

Each unique moment in “Cool” has a wonderful sense of dynamism, influenced by the world of R&B and pop hooks and bass lines grooved beneath the singing, reflecting the confidence and sophistication evident in him since the release of her “Focus” album.

Bringing the best of soulful pop and R&B elements together, this composition makes you jump with a song that fascinates us in a variety of ways, revealing the artistic traits of a new singer who confidently steps into her place in the music world.

“Cool” is a glowing mid-level song that doesn’t burn you but warms your feelings up, lights you up to see that love can be a turbulent passion, and past relationships can affect your life. It is a powerful meditation on relationships and how they can make you feel bad about yourself.

This 3-minute potion gives you the strength you want after a breakup because Mia Delamar’s vocals are so powerful and emotional, it’s fun to listen to and decide what you want if you’re going through a similar situation.

Cosmic Echoes by John Leslie Hulcombe

0

The music industry has become quite challenging for emerging artists lately, it takes them a lot of time, effort, and dedication to reach their listeners and establish a strong platform. For John Leslie Hulcombe, that wasn’t the case, from his very first release back in 2020 “Town of Love”, he’s been on the rise. In 2021 he released two singles “Love Found A Way” which reached over 77k streams on Spotify only, and “Born of the Fire” which has over 145K streams. The artist’s remarkable style and individuality take his music to a whole new level, not to mention how his emotions are reflected in his vocals giving us a glimpse of his kind and humble soul.

Earlier this year the artist released “Sanctuary” which reached over 18K streams in only a few months. The song’s production and music resulted from a remarkable collaboration with world-class musicians like Peter Koppes, who is a member of the iconic band “The Church” which is considered one of the most influential rock bands in Australia. Along their work process, they realized how remarkable the music from “Sanctuary” was that they decided to remix it and create an instrumental track, that’s how “Cosmic Echoes” was born. The track is ethereal and soothing in many ways that’ll get you lured into a light, uplifting mood. Apart from Peter’s remarkable guitar effects like the Gregorian Choir, strings, and the guitar solo that is played using the e-bow, the drumline was performed by the distinguishing percussionist Jackie James Barnes.

So, whenever you need to get in a serene mood and a positive attitude, I suggest you listen to “Cosmic Echoes” and if you got curious, like me, then enjoy listening to “Sanctuary” too.
