There is a type of love bestowed by divine power that is “Stronger Than Human.” Mya Luv, a soulful artist, is giving us a taste of how this love feels in her latest single, “Stronger Than Human.”

GOOD by Onbar

0

Onbar, who is based in San Jose, has released the summer smash “GOOD.” which, as the name suggests, is about unwinding and appreciating the good vibes. According to the artist, this song was composed in two days with the assistance of two friends (Patrick Hizon-Producer/Co-Writer, and Orion-Song-Co-Writer). This song was inspired by the desire to create something that felt good with the intention of making the listener feel the same way.

This song’s synth-pop and R&B tones are firmly established, and the pulsating energy reinforces the carefree attitude.

Complementing the song’s warm energy, he expresses his elation through frantic energy that is comparable to the elation you experience when summer finally arrives.

It is a promising combination of bedroom art-soul and 1980s new-wave pop maximalism and a union of lonely-boy self-reflection with a sense of greater cultural significance. It reminds me most of the promise in the soundtracks of John Hughes’s movies: that an outsider’s story could be the thing that brings millions of people together and makes them feel something.

The musical references to that era are most prominent in the chorus, which is almost saccharine in its dedication to the synthetic. It is anchored by Onbar’s vocals, which reveal themselves in slow, syrupy drops. He sings with only inner grace and serenity, devoid of force.

Dress To Please by Official Shannon

0

Shannon, a female British independent artist based in London, is known for her hearty vocals and melodies. Her latest single, Dress To Please, is a positive, uplifting summer pop song that was inspired by her desire to combat the frequent instances of cat-calling, sexual harassment, and unwanted obscene or insulting comments made toward women. Everyone, regardless of their gender, size, or socioeconomic status, can benefit from this approach since it seeks to restore a sense of control and self-assurance to those who have felt powerless in similar circumstances.

Dress To Please combines elements of modern pop with classic funk and soul. In terms of sheer intensity, power, and charisma, Shannon’s singing is unrivaled. Even though her voice is often sun-drenched and multitracked, it is assured, putting harmonies and ambiance before synthetic belting. The energetic, sparse accompaniment that ebbs and flows around her serves to highlight her vocals.

The lyrical message is simple yet profound: wear what makes you happy and ignore the stares, catcalls, and abuse that may come your way. The point needs to be heard by all. The combination of Shannon’s exceptional musicianship and her clever, heartfelt songwriting makes for a truly unique and unforgettable concert experience.

In 2020, Shannon began releasing songs, and by 2021, she had caught the ear of BBC Radio Essex. As a result of the high quality of the material and the performances, it’s not hard to see why.

Songbird: Part One by Jennifer Alvarado

0

In April 2021, North Carolina native Jennifer Alvarado released her debut EP, Playing with Fire, to tremendous acclaim. In 2021 and 2022, the Nashville Songwriters Association designated Jennifer as “one to watch.” Jennifer Alvarado has just published her second EP, titled Songbird: Part One, and is now embarking on a musical journey. This EP, the first of a two-part project, commences the process of coping with and recovering from a hostile environment. As she navigates the darkness, she pours her soul onto each track.

We follow her as she develops her musical style and adds a personal touch to the songs on her journey. This EP features a few of her previously released hits.

The first song from the album, “Rock This Way,” has energetic, joyful music. The sleek and precise guitar work, which matches the uplifting lyrics, penetrates the room with a cheerful country-pop atmosphere.

“Curious” contains a more subdued melody than the previous song, allowing the listener’s spirit and mind to be penetrated by her voice. It has the persistence, passion, and general tone of a leading lady in pop music. It seems like it was taken directly from an early-2000s teen show in the vein of Gilmore Girls. Before hearing the lyrics, it may appear to be just another country song with a love theme. However, the song’s uniqueness comes from Alvarado’s sensitive and precise writing. Focused on the delicate moments at the beginning of a relationship, which are filled with excitement, hope, dread, and a sense of longing. Her voice shimmers with a soft, illuminating melody.

The drums introduce “Something’s Up.” When you hear the song, you are tempted to imagine that your emotions could move in several different ways. Everything has the capability of succeeding or failing miserably. This song’s lyrics inspire skepticism and the belief that your companion is not telling the truth. As you vent your anger, you wish you could express all that Alvarado sings about. This song effectively reflects the EP’s general progression from gentleness to bitterness. This compelling song explores gaslighting and its emotional impact on an individual.

The strong bass and powerful percussion of “Filthy Water” are dominated by gloom. This song loses some of its country undertones as Alvarado’s voice takes on a more rock-oriented tone. When you listen to her words, your nocturnal thoughts can be heard running through your mind. Through her performance, you can sense her growing rage at the state of her current circumstances. This song has a drastically different arrangement than the others, which demonstrates Alvarado’s versatility as a musician.

“By This Time Next Year,” the last track on the EP, begins with a gentle guitar riff that soothes the soul. Underneath the guitar, a low resonating beat reverberates and fades away. Regardless of how abrasive a relationship may have been, Alvarado’s music is capable of conveying agony and loss. She emphasizes in the song’s lyrics that you can heal these wounds if you take the time to contemplate. It is an almost self-deprecating lament about all the times you’ve been foolish. She then assures the listener that they will be able to reflect on their past experiences without regret.

Jennifer Alvarado’s songs take us on a trip from the beginning to the end of an unhappy relationship, encapsulating all the associated feelings of love, hatred, bitterness, and loss. Jennifer has a slightly deeper but still elegant voice, which enables her to perform the songs in a very classic country style that borders on grittiness but is unquestionably endearing.

Dreaming by Slowlife

0

Whenever I am asked about which musical vibe I relate to and enjoy the most, my usual answer is something along the lines of dreamy, floaty, ambient, and atmospheric. And this latest offering from Hamburg’s Patrick Behrens effortlessly checks all the boxes.

Patrick Behrens is Slowlife. A songwriter from Hamburg who’s almost fresh. Having released his debut EP in 2020, this single sees him finding a sound that struck a chord with him (pun intended). And this sound is just heavenly.

‘Dreaming’ is a relatively short dream pop gem. Revolving around a simplistic two-chord motion that lulls you back and forth into sweet hypnosis. Composed in the airiest of modes, Lydian, this song is intended to create a mood that’s soothing and dreamlike. With a vocal melody that relies on repeats, this song is constantly in motion, starting with the gentlest of synths, before a strummed acoustic guitar finds its way snuggly into the mix. A string section is then introduced, soaring above all the other instruments, leading the whole peace towards a gently heaving climax with a creamy and lightly melancholic melody on the synths before it fades away gracefully.

A very soothing song. Graceful and colorful and consistent in its choices of sounds, with a mix that perfectly complements all the sonic elements of the song. Patrick says this song ended up having 8 different versions and 40 different mixes, and I would seriously love to give them all a go.

Hot Night by Moonlight Jones

Moonlight Jones just dropped his debut single “Hot Night”, a remarkable outcome from the collision of different cultures, years of experience, and undoubtful talent. Jones is a self-taught guitarist who has always been fascinated by the powerful language of music and the possibilities it offers, the Miami-based artist comes from a very diverse background, an Egyptian father, and an American mother with Czech heritage. Being exposed to different cultures at such a young age, Jones was able to shape an identity of his own and a diverse taste in music allowing him to appreciate all cultures equally, from Latin, Middle Eastern, and world music to blues, bluegrass, Asian, and Folk music. “Hot Night” reflects exactly that, it’s a song that prompts diversity as it combines a mix of sounds from Latin music, R&B, Rock, and Flamenco. It’s a sexy and passionate track with multiple layers and instruments all playing together to set you in the happiest and lightest of moods, it automatically makes your day better with its beat, tune, and melody, you can’t help but dance and sing along. The guitar is surely dominating the track with its Santana-like guitar solos and foundations.

The artist was adamant to work with a Grammy award-winning team for this track and he assembled the best talents in Miami, starting with the featuring vocalist Karina Iglesias who was a finalist at The Voice, Nino Valentino who produced this song, and the multiple Grammy-winning trumpet player and arranger Dante Vargas. Unlovable by Grey River and The Smoky Mountain

Vulnerability in music, much like in real life, is a spiky area to navigate. From one side, it purposefully displays the person in question in their weakest and most easily exploited shapes. On the other, it is a display of humility, realness, and honesty. On Grey River & The Smoky Mountain’s latest offering, titled ‘Unlovable’, Singer and Lyricist Rena Papageorgiou display a striking amount of vulnerability.

Grey River & The Smoky Mountain is a Folk Pop/Americana outfit hailing all the way from Athens, Greece. With a range that goes from Folk to Americana all the way to Blues and everything in between, they are certainly a musical force to be reckoned with, and an experienced bunch with years of gigging and recording under their belt.

Their latest offering, ‘Unlovable’, sees them stripping their sound all the way down to the striking voice of Rena, along with a couple of very clearly recorded acoustic guitars, to a very warm and hospitable effect that creates a vibe that makes you feel right at home from the get-go. The words are very direct and confrontational, and even if you don’t relate to them, Rena’s heartfelt delivery, on both sound and video, is sure to make you feel something stir deep down.

The composition is minimalist, bordering on repetition. Now I understand, that such a song would potentially be harmed by an intricate, writhing composition. Yet, I cannot deny I ended up longing for a different instrument to strike a chord here or a melodic line there, just to break the monotony… Even if this monotony is perfectly intended and is perfectly fine.

This is a simple song, that conveys a deeply personal message, in an efficient and calculated manner, such that it can only be a product of a group of impressive experiences in when to show off, and exactly when to not do that. And for this, I commend Grey River & The Smoky Mountain for their effort and wholeheartedly tell them that they are, indeed, very lovable.

A Silent Scream by S J Denney

0

Since the release of his 2017 album ‘Then Again’, S J Denney has released numerous singles and EPs, including ‘Forgotten Friends’, ‘An Island of Clouds, and ‘Beneath The Skin’. From there, he has demonstrated a desire to evolve and experiment with his songwriting. “A Silent Scream,” written and arranged by S.J. Denney and produced by the artist himself, is an excellent example of the artist’s willingness to grow and improve.

S J Denney is a singer-songwriter based in the UK. He began as a choirboy before learning to play the clarinet. He fell in love with rock music in his early teens after discovering vinyl copies of The Beatles’ “White Album” and Neil Young’s “Harvest.” These two albums continue to be among his favorites. Led Zeppelin, Talk Talk, Paul Weller, and Jeff Buckley are a few additional notable influences.

This single demonstrates that not only has he improved his lyrical qualities but also his musical arrangements have become more experimental.

The guitar seizes and retains your attention until the song ends. The lyrics will not alter the world, but that is not their purpose. They are unpretentious, sweet, and sincere. The extravagant tone of the performance was what piqued my interest in the artist’s hypnotic aesthetic.

The progression of the guitar riffs and lyrics created an enthralling glimpse into the artist’s musical identity. This is one of many instances in which Denney explores introspective and personal themes in his songwriting; however, this song’s euphoric melodies make it an almost ideal pick-me-up.

According to the artist, the song is about a person who appears to be happy on the outside but is quietly burning on the inside. It features a beautiful evolution of production, beginning with a simple acoustic pattern and developing into an arresting experience with bombastic windpipe sections and exhilarating melodies.

Memories Remain by Feralman

Welsh/Australian artist Feralman released his latest single “Memories Remain” which is part of his upcoming album “Allegories”. This single was in collaboration with infamous composer Sefi Carmel who worked with the likes of David Bowie and Bruno mars. Also featured in the song is Rochelle Feldkamp, a Nashville country/folk singer. A little background about Feralman’s music journey, he started releasing music after the birth of his daughter in January of the year 2020, after having played her some songs and sang to her. He decided that he wanted to pursue music after that.

At first listen, I was absolutely mesmerized by Feralman’s vocals, they were absolutely hypnotic. The song felt so mystical, like something that could be from the Hobbit, or included in the Hobbit’s soundtrack. Another thing that drew me to the song was the guitar, it was so melancholic and really moved me. Another thing I absolutely loved is the music video, not only is the videography perfect but also the idea behind it is so deep and meaningful (much like the song itself).

All in all, I absolutely loved this single, and Carmel’s influence is shown with such great composing. I cannot wait till Feralman releases his new album! Hopefully, it will be full of goodies like these.
