Noise Fantasy by Reue

0

Our beloved wizard of Electronica Reue is back with a brand new, behemoth of a single that explores different tropes of electronic music during its runtime, and manages to emerge quintessentially Reue from the other side.

Reue is Ethan Reue Berdofe, a native of Austin, Texas, and an influential mind in his local Texan electronic music scenes, where he’s been active from a young age, earning himself the label of ‘prodigy’ from his peers. His brand of electronic music is expansive, inquisitive, and melodic, usually opting for a specific progression or riff to construct music around, then proceeds to fill all the gaps with inventive synths, and infectious grooves, often crafting tantalizing and dense musical atmospheres.

Noise Fantasy is no exception. Here, the composition is minimal and the piece mainly progresses around a tight groove, and synths that get progressively heavier and more abrasive, culminating in a climactic haze of melodic synths and percussion which reminded me of some of my favorite songs from M83. Noise Fantasy is a marvel of production, discovering harsh synths with comfort, while remaining largely accessible, groovy, and fun throughout, never once feeling a little too challenging, or a little too lenient.

One more Reue cut to add to your playlist of electronic music. A talented artist whose vision is always sharp and concise, which most often leads to songs with intent and a defined structure. Even if they sometimes feel like an expressionist paintings, you can always feel Reue songs are telling stories.

Perdeu Mané by Will Lisil

0

Artist Will Lisil based in London, UK, released a jaw-dropping hip hop song called ‘ Perdeu Manè’, on the 27th of December that will give you shivers down your spine from how powerful it is emotionally and as a concept. The song is dedicated to Brazil, and it’s in Portuguese language. Will is a producer that focuses on specific kinds of messages to the world, which is making social issues come forth to the light for woolen to become more aware of political and social problems. He is also very experimental with genres which makes this a great way to shift and transition easily and smoothly around the world and transcend space and physical boundaries with his ideas that call for change, peace, and justice.

The song will inspire you to pursue what you are most passionate about because you will really feel the depth of concern Will has for the Brazilian case. Since the new year, the Brazilian nation is forced to elect an ex-criminal for president, who is a dictator with a communist agenda. A very dangerous future lies ahead of Brazil, and Will has the intention of spreading awareness through this amazing song. The overall sound of the song is serious and dramatic. The soundscape is a fast, hip-hop song with a very intense musical arrangement that includes a very heated and fast violin, harsh electronic beats, and heavy drums. The song sends feelings of urgency like there is really something huge being spoken of even if you don’t understand the language which is what says about the powerful production and emotive waves of the song. The vocals are steady raps with passionate and angry feelings. A beautiful way to raise awareness using hip-hop.

Forever Loyal by Big Mouf’ Bo

0

Big Mouf’ Bo’s “Forever Loyal” is a personal tale that has the ability to resonate with others, making whoever hears it, wherever they are, feel like they’re hearing their own story. The secret ingredient in the emerging artist’s instant bonding is being genuine, in both music and life, telling the story as it is with its ups and downs, and keeping the beat as spicy as life’s challenges.

One of the fundamental reasons why I love music is because it has the power to support minorities and tell real stories that others can find relevant. Big Mouf’ Bo accomplished this in her latest single, “Forever Loyal,” delivering the heartfelt story exquisitely through a raw, solid performance and gangster-style beats.

“Forever Loyal is about both the complications and celebrations of life. I’ve had an equal experience of both the highs and lows growing up in the city of Chicago. I figured it was time to tell a story, which is not only my story but our story. This is to the children of the Ghetto.” – Big Mouf’ Bo

The percussion plays its role in being catchy and aligning with the powerful, naturally flowing delivery. However, a harmonic melody composed of mellow piano notes creates an intense vibe. It’s all brought together in a tight production that complements the authentic, bold take.

The 2-minute track has a high level of musicality that will appeal to any hip-hop fan. Big Mouf’ Bo certainly knows how to write and perform engagingly. To bring the piece to a close, there’s a fiery music video with a fancy yet organic touch that gives you the impression that the artist intended to tell the story to YOU.

BigMouf’Bo is embarking on 2023 with a bang with “Forever Loyal,” and she surely has all it takes to keep up the same blazing pace all year long.

EP: Leo Nazz

0

After 5 years in the making and 2022 packed full of live shows and single releases, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Leo Nazz finally releases his eponymous debut EP. The five-track opus is a culmination of his hard work and personal struggles over the past few years.

The opening track “I wanted to be honest” had previously been released as a single, and it showcases the country/folk-ish elements of the record. It starts off with a cool bassline and powerful drums, then changes into a chord progression with rim shots as the verse starts. The change from soft verses to an explosive heavier chorus somewhat bridges the gap between the 60s pop-rock and 2000s Alternative Rock. The personal story told by the lyrics and the bluesy guitar solo is just the cherry on top of this amazing mix of genres.

The second track, “it feels like”, is more country and folk than rock. Banjos/banjo like percussions, a faster tempo, and harmonica solos make this one so fun to sing along to. I can imagine how much of a crowd-pleaser it will be at live shows, especially with that quiet bridge full of claps in its midsection.

“Late summer night phone calls” begins as a slow and somber acoustic ballad that lets the vocals take the spotlight until the bass guitar and drums playfully join in on the second verse. The guitar solo gave me goosebumps and had me craving for more of that sweet and bluesy melodic guitar playing. This track is my favorite vocal performance out of the five tracks, especially the acapella ending.

“White noise” keeps it simple and makes use of the acoustic guitar and heart-wrenching vocals, near the end of the song some backing vocals and strings join the emotional buildup as well as some soft percussions. It reminded me of Hozier a little bit – simple yet on-point songwriting that has enough substance and style to both plays with your emotions and stay in your memory.

The fifth and final track, “I don’t mind (demo)”, feels like spoken words more than singing because of how emotional it is performed. It has a great chord progression and some harmonica melodies that will make you feel every word and every sincere emotion. I think what makes this track so beautiful is that it doesn’t have any out-of-measure high notes or super fast sections, it keeps it simple and that’s what greatly increases the emotional impact it has on the listener.

In conclusion, this record is the culmination of one man’s uneasy life endeavors as well as the stressful work he put in to start out his music career. If you’re looking for a short bluesy record that’s both personal and simple, you’ve just hit the jackpot with Leo Nazz.

Was It Obvious? by JULIENT

0

Electronic singer-songwriter JULIENT will release his self-produced alternative dance single “Was It Obvious?” about a deteriorating relationship on the 20th of January from London, United Kingdom.

The groovy commercial tune of “Was It Obvious?” hides behind it a personal melancholic message of a souring relationship, as JULIENT wrote the song about an intimate relationship of his that gradually became more negative.

Nevertheless, “Was It Obvious?” is an uptempo, upbeat track with catchy melodies over a significant chord progression that makes you dance. The juxtaposition between happy chords and sad words is always something that is highly encouraged in pop music, as it gives these songs depth, and JULIENT quite nailed it on that front.

JULIENT’s discography currently consists of three tracks with many remixes featuring different artists on Spotify, with the fourth “Was It Obvious?” soon to be released. His style in electronic production is influenced by artists such as Depeche Mode and RÜFÜS DU SOL, and his inspirations come from his personal experiences and other artists.

The new single “Was It Obvious?” by JULIENT will be released on January 20th under the label Blanco Y Negro Music.

Change In The Weather by Podge Lane

0

This latest release from Podge Lane is a heartbreaking and gorgeous piece of warm, acoustic folk-country that’s sure to talk to everybody, if not through its introspective lyrics, then through its immaculate warmth, human delivery, or simply through its sheer beauty.

Hailing from Cork in Ireland, Podge Lane is an impassioned artist and performer who’s set to release his much anticipated sophomore album ‘Common Country Misconceptions’, his first in 2023, after an exciting 2022 which included an extensive tour in support of his debut album ‘Outer Monologues’ among a flurry of media attention and praise.

Change In The Weather has an immaculate warmth that’s conveyed through its delicately fingerpicked acoustic guitar, and droplets of melodies from a piano, next to his impassioned and vulnerable-sounding vocal delivery, which seems to shake and break as he utters the heartfelt words against the intimate arrangement, and the melancholic songwriting, for a final result that’s a thought-provoking, beautiful, relatable, and incredibly personal feeling, with an unmistakable human and organic quality.

As a lover of folk, Podge Lane’s Change In The Weather felt incredibly touching to me, in many different ways. With its serene and nuanced musical atmospheres, rich and honest lyrics, and dramatic vocal delivery, this song is haunting and beautiful and left me waiting impatiently for ‘Common Country Misconceptions’.

Playscapes by Tuulikki Bartosik

0

Innovative composer and experimental accordionist Tuulikki Bartosik announced her newest album “Playscapes” to be released on the 14th of January on vinyl in Sweden and Estonia, and digitally released worldwide on the 21st of the same month.

Tuulikki Bartosik is an artist who has traveled around the world, visiting and living in different countries including Estonia, Sweden, England, and Japan, and her upcoming album reflects her globe-trotting journey, with each track being named after a different city or county from the many countries she has been to, as they have all influenced her musically and shaped her identity.

Being her third solo album, Tuulikki Bartosik has decided to explore her musicality and instruments further with “Playscapes” and augments the sound of her accordion with pedals and different effects which she has studied for a year.

Each song is painted as a soundscape of the place it takes its name. For example, the seventh track “London” on “Playscapes” incorporates the London atmosphere into every sound fiber, from the rail train and the ticking clocks representing Big Ben. The tracks on the album sound as if they’re about to burst from the nuance and subtle details included in the production, sound design, and performance.

I also must say that I adore the cover art for “Playscapes”. The aesthetic somewhat resembles jazz albums from the 60s in terms of minimalist crude geometry and vivid color. The visuals really capture the soul and essence of Tuulikki Bartosik’s sound on “Playscapes”, from the imaginative gradients like the shifting tones of each sound to the unique color harmony that reflects the stark compositional genius of Tuulikki Bartosik.

You can listen to and buy two tracks from “Playscapes” right now before it releases, and pre-order the 12-track full-length album on Bandcamp.

Sabotage by Jordan Jones

0

Jordan Jones’s latest single is a healthy package of fun dream pop with an introspective edge, an explosive hook, crystal clear production, and a stadium-worthy attitude.

Hailing from Edmonton, Canada, Jordan Jones is a singer/songwriter and a guitarist who is the sole party responsible for this song, titled Sabotage. Coming from a contemporary, pop star background, it’s easy to see the effect of this on his music; with Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, and Halsey named as top influences, the bombastic atmosphere falls neatly in place.

Sabotage is about being unable to freely express yourself in a relationship, which ends up with both parties raising walls as defense mechanisms to avoid hurtful conflicts, and the song is a question about whether we will remain hidden behind these walls, or will we sabotage our relationship by finally deciding to speak our minds regardless of the consequences. The neat set of lyrics is sharp and makes you think and reconsider how you run your relationships, not just the romantic, but with your friend groups and even family members. The music on which the lyrics are set is accessible and easy, yet with a prominent larger-than-life attitude, specifically during the chorus and post-chorus sections, the latter introducing a gargantuan, airy synth that fills up the room. Jones’s vocals are gorgeously mixed in and the production as a whole is fresh and professional, with blood-pumping kicks, punchy snares, and sizzling vocal effects.

A deceptively smart and thought-provoking pop single from an undoubtedly talented singer/songwriter, with an amazing quality to the sound, the vision, and the lyrics, for an end product that’s sweet and easy to enjoy and to recommend.

Jesus Loves Junkies by Red Music

Rebellious Artist Red Music Release Daring Trap Single “Jesus Loves Junkies”

Red Music releases the subversive trap/gospel track “Jesus Loves Junkies” on the 4th of November of last year from Memphis, United States.

“Jesus Loves Junkies” is the last track on Red Music latest release “Sober Boy Winter”, and it might shock you on first listen (if it hasn’t already managed to do that from the title alone).

The daring song is in fact about Jesus’s love for all sinners. Red Music put its own twist on this topic with its thrilling songwriting and deep, evocative symbolism.

“When I see the lord, I know he’s gonna love me,

cause Jesus loves a junkie, strippers from Kentucky,

and all the heathens in between.”

The catchy chorus of the song is sung like a gospel choir, and carries a positive message of equality, because how can we judge each other for our sins if we’re all sinners who just sin differently from one another?

“Jesus Loves Junkies” is an interesting and infectious trap single off of Red Music’s daring discography and latest release “Sober Boy Winter”, with previously released albums “Toxic Boy Summer” and “Samsara” Red Music seems to be setting a trend of daring and spiritual music that will be exciting to see as it grows.
