Azul by Azul Kechi

0

Azul Kechi is here with a debut single… Azul. Azul has a whole story to tell, and a whole persona to convey, and we’re in the front row to listen and to watch, and if the rest of the music is as sharp as this debut, then I’ll personally be in the front row for a long, long time.

Based in London, Azul Kechi states that she was born on Earth. Fair enough. She then goes on to say that she’s always felt like an outsider, an extraterrestrial to be precise. A spiritual being that longs to return to her original part of the universe. A cool narrative, and a neat persona that sees us in remembrance of the late genius of Bowie. I was chuffed to discover that the music tied to this image is incredibly Earth-based and good. With production done by the infamous Mr. Eraserhood, the sound is tight and controlled, yet expansive, airy, open, and welcoming. Pure joy. The highlight, other than the ultra-sharp production, is of course Azul Kechi’s singing. The 21-year-old British Nigerian is a masterful performer, to put it mildly. With a super enjoyable flow, unique to her and to her bizarre poetry, she sings her part with intention. Heartfelt and nuanced, her delivery is full of inflictions and imperfections that make it sound incredibly (Sorry) human. The music is Soul at its most modern and fresh guise, with a syncopated, intricate drum part that sounds warm and roomy, a tight, grooving bass, and a plethora of airy synths that dominate the soundscape as the compositions writhe and modulate in an upwards spiral.

Azul Kechi is, in fact, the only alien I am currently waiting for an album from. There’s a convincing element about this song that’s telling me that Azul Kechi is here to stay and that her planned album will be as stunning as this teaser single. Consider me teased, and waiting.

May I Ask by 5ON5

1

The weird Berliners are back again with an unlikely banger that doesn’t really bang.

5ON5 has a very peculiar way of creating their songs. While their music sounds, for whatever reason, inherently un-radio friendly, it has a sustained charm that manages to keep me hooked. With one quirky decision or another that they choose to dominate each song, with off-kilter production choices and multiple vocal parts that sound like they belong in different universes, their music sounds unique, left-field, and consistently brilliant.

May I Ask is the simplest song I’ve heard of them. A steady kick is a whole beat. All of it. A bass plays to that kick, simple root notes, no frills. The harmonic structure is delivered by, well, a keyboard. A single keyboard that sounds airy and washed-out is the only discernible device that plays chords. Oh, and what chords does it play? The composition is an absolute highlight. A writhing part that sounds rhythmic and exciting. Melancholic and sweet at the most part, with sudden pangs of uncommon, borrowed chords that grabbed my attention by the scruff of the neck. The harmonic rhythm plays a central role in this song, with chords not lasting the same durations, making the harmony, and thus, the melodies, a main part of the rhythmic structure, a decision which, in my opinion, kept this song exciting and dynamic, with its sparse drum and bass parts. A brilliant sound

For the third time in a row, 5ON5 manage to get me on board, proving that music is much more than the sum of its parts. 5ON5’s piece is technically flawed. With production that is quirky and uncommercial, and voices that beautifully and artistically fill in the gaps, but do not shine and glimmer on top of them, it might be hard for them to reach mainstream audiences, but with interesting ideas and execution, their music sound consistently fresh and exciting.

Drive by Matt Makk

0

Highways always inspire artists same as road trips, this time the i5 highway in LA inspired Matt Makk to write his new single ‘Drive’.

Originally from Louisville, KY. The rapper/producer Matt Makk released ‘Drive’ on his trip from Kentucky to California influenced by the red lights on LA’s i5 highway influenced by the thrill of driving fast cars.

Drive’ begins with a reverb piano melody that sounded a lot close to the intro to Future’s Turn On the Light” which is one of Matt’s major influences.

Composed also by the artist, the beat is energetic despite the mellow piano intro it fills up the air with the bass boost and the sharp snare sound.

Matt Makk’s flow and rhymes are yet to emerge as the track contained a verse of 4 bars and a chorus of 7 bars only; which is considered a teaser for Matt’s rapping skills given the track’s short length which should’ve been longer to boldly present the rapper’s rapping and producing skills.

Take a listen to the track and tell us what u think.

¡GET UP! by Monroe Moon

0

Queen sang, “I don’t want to die; I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all.” And many of us felt it. For different reasons, or for not finding one, some live in the depths of nihilism, refusing any rays of hope, because it’s meaningless to them, or maybe dangerous to cling to. Monroe Moon’s “¡GET UP!” is the wake-up call to urge you to choose life and embrace existence.

Monroe Moon are Bunny Monroe and Theo Malkin, a married couple who make a solid chemical binary in the music scene with their sharp artistic skills and musicianship. I’ve known them recently when I listened to their single, “Glad to Exist” and reviewed it. Now, it’s time to re-know them! Because they offer a new shade of their abilities with each song. As for their latest well-cooked potion, “¡GET UP!”, it has a different atmosphere, a different touching message, and owns a bluesy sound to deliver its sensations best.

“¡GET UP!” is an emotional take that gets to touch the darkest part of your soul that is about to let go of the lifeline and freshens up your will to live with Bunny’s sentimental vocal delivery, which combines a melancholy undertone with a sedately optimistic timbre and a peaceful musical composition.

The only instruments used in the song to produce its more than satisfactory dreamy mood are keys, guitars, and percussion samples. They innately connect with the vocals and create a harmonious sonic canvas that is both as light as carefree floating and as heavy as carelessly sinking.

It’s incredible how this duo managed to produce a heartfelt piece that discusses pain and loss stemming from a personal experience yet navigates it to sow a seed of hope in our hearts.

Honeymoon Eyes by Freya Beer

0

Freya Beer kicks off her new musical phase with a stunning, alluring, and mystical drama. Honeymoon Eyes is a Gothic Disco

The London-based Freya Beer Collaborates with Tom Saint on her latest rocking single, the electro-pop Honeymoon Eyes. Telling the tragic story of a relationship that’s doomed to vanish, with an expiry date and two lovers who are aware of it. The story is told through a dialogue between Saint and Beer, two singers that, I have to say, have amazing chemistry. The music is dazzlingly noir with neon lights. The composition is dark and cyclical, feeling foreboding and oppressive, while the bright production and the open sonic textures were chosen to provide the perfect counterpoint for this darkness. The music is dominated by a simple, elegant trap beat, and crawling sub-bass that’s prominent, making the sound eerie, shifting, and uneasy. The gothic element is expertly delivered, effortless, and efficient.

Honeymoon Eyes is a simple synth-pop gem. The lyrical motifs are common and the chords are too, but the stunning performances and the amazing chemistry between those two singers make the whole experience fresh and exciting. A brand new sound that Freya Beer delivers with flying colors.

I believe that there is a perfect time for everything to happen. And from where I’m standing, it sounds about right that we’ve hit the clock for Marcus McCoan to come out of the shadows and shine brightly in the light, with his first release, the live session video “Try Me.”

Marcus McCoan is a talented songwriter who co-wrote songs with one of the well-known K-Pop bands, BTS. Now, he’s showing us that he can also exceed as a vocalist and live performer, and “Try Me” is good evidence of that, as well as an enticing teaser for his debut single “Phase Me,” which will be dropped on the 18th of November.

“Try Me” is sonically and visually hypnotizing. It’s structured to get you hooked, as it lures you to listen, saying “try me,” and as you hear it, with a confident, electrifying tone, it turns to say, “Yeah, now you’re charmed under my superb spill.”

The Cornish songwriter and producer is giving a captivating vocal performance with his wide range of vocal lines that can be warm and edgy at the same time. His voice harmonizes smoothly with the stirring melody. The solo part with the glitched visuals makes you know for sure that you’re ready to be the fan who’s ardently singing along in a live act.

It’s always impressive seeing young artists push the boundaries and speak their own minds using music especially when they have a message like what singer/songwriter Johanna Dadap did on her latest acoustic single “The World’s Gone Up in Smoke”. Johanna used her sweet voice and acoustic sense to translate her emotions while collaborating with Paul ‘Taffy’ White who took charge of other instruments so, let’s see how it went,

Johanna Dadap’s choice of going acoustic on “The World’s Gone Up in Smoke” was a pretty smart one and shows her good sense of mood and melody, the warm acoustic tone indulged in amazing harmony with that beautiful subtle piano, and Dadap’s dreamy voice. “The World’s Gone Up in Smoke” has a mellow easygoing flow with beautiful well-arranged and written melodies with a very smooth progression as it keeps on going toward a bigger and more open sound in every step, with a simple entertaining structure that’s powerfully led by Johanna Dadap’s lovely expressive vocal melody.

Preparing for her debut record that’ll drop in early 2023, the British singer/songwriter Nicki Wells dropped her second single off her debut record “Carry On” on the 14th of October, 2022. “Carry On” is a soothing tune that was written amidst the lockdown “as a process of self-reassurance” as Nicki describes it. So, let’s see how it goes,

“Carry On” is a soft mellow ballad with escalating spiritual melodies and soothing warm vocals that controls its dynamics and cleverly steers its structure. Nicki Wells’ vocal melodies and the way she delivered them are pretty impressive! She created her very own sound signature as she freely transitions between high and low sections smoothly and seamlessly backed by emotional heart-hitting orchestrations, subtle keys, and filled-with-anticipation percussions, all in an escalating structure with bitter-sweet dark vibes and open sound.

ACOUSTIC

Nadie como tu by Mike Coner

0

Mike Coner is a Latin Pop singer based in Colombia. At the beginning of the year, he dropped his infectious tune, “Nadie como tu,” and here we are, almost wrapping off 2022, and it’s still resonating with its catchy grooves and affection vibe.

His Urban Latin sound and dulcet vocal line are reminiscent of a younger Justin Bieber. His single “Nadie como tu” features scintillating vocals, bouncy beats, and poetic lyrics.

Right from the colorful intro, you get the feel of the sublime discography. The snappy cadence is structured to make you dance along with the pulsing arrangement and sway with the sweet harmony of the vocals.

Mike’s vocals are as vivid as the beats. He offers the lyrics’ sensations and the tune’s ardency. With his pop, rap-ish smooth delivery, he entices listeners to immerse themselves in the vibe and get hyped up.

Whether you understand Spanish or not, you can tell for sure by the softly rhymed lyrics and sensational vocal delivery that this is a saucy love song. To paint the entire picture, the single’s music video will help you to jump into the scene. It’s the typical kind of video for love anthems, but it complements the set and fits the mood.

The ambitious artist has collaborated with the Canadian music label, You Are Not Alone Records, to produce this dope piece that fits into your dancing playlist. And to not keep you waiting, there are other emotive and peppy releases, such as, “Ya no,” “Forever Alone,” and “Quédate,” which demonstrate a deeper aspect and richer musicianship of this young singer.
