Too Pretty by Gxbriel

0

Straight out of Arlington, US comes to the solo artist Gabriel Caceres, who goes by the name Gxbriel. The artist decided to flex her confidence and beauty in her latest release, “Too Pretty.”

I’m not usually a fan of rappers who make songs in which they brag about themselves and their possessions. But I don’t see why not, at least in one song. It’s their thing, after all. In “Too Pretty,” Gxbriel succeeded in creating a hit that you can hype up on a car ride with your friends. What stands out in the track is the well-rhymed lyricism. I’m not fond of the words’ choices, but I respect that they’re explicit and bold. And it served what the artist wanted to deliver well. She surely was right when she sang: “Got my flow and lyricism down, I’m ready to aim.” I liked how she pointed out the fact that pretty people aren’t weak, and their personality is not just about their looks; they can be strong and stand up for themselves in front of anyone, and that’s clear in bars like: “If you want an enemy, hey Kim! my name is Shego.” I find it smart to refer to fictional characters who are enemies in Kim Impossible.

The peppy beat and confident, glowing, and smooth vocals flow effortlessly together to result in a sound that gets you on your feet. The producer X.O made a simple beat, yet it works fine to make you feel your pulse rate rise along with it. The combination of Hip-Hop and Dark-Pop enhanced the song’s atmosphere and made it more lustrous.

“Too Pretty” may well be a good fit in your summery playlist, car ride playlist, and definitely let’s start a solo party in my room playlist.

My Only Love by Romain Gutsy

Just how French is it possible to make a piece of music? While it can be easy to make fun of the French’s way of making art sometimes, their excessive fire and outwardly panache in expressing whatever emotion they may be having, one can only do some in a loving and admiring fashion, because it’s the passion of French that paves the way for other, less passionate peoples to make their art.

The Parisienne Romain Gutsy goes all out French here. Somehow removing the cringe factor altogether from a collection of phrases that would sound unbearable from anyone other than a Parisienne troubadour. A true expression of sensual and physical love expressed in a purely musical way.

As a musician, we do sometimes tend to make fun of certain musical cliches as cheesy, and way overused. Romain uses a very major tinged progression here that would be a cliché of those. But the way he makes it work in his favor is exceptional. The interplay between the Flamenco guitar and warm bar atmosphere in the intro soon mixes with a modern electronic beat and an icy, huge string section to create a very novel and unusual soundscape, again, executed beautifully by an expert. One cannot miss the classically laced composition, full of emotive and tear-jerking harmonic passages.

The stunning baritone of Romain Gutsy leads the way here to create an exceptionally unusual vibe. Warm and intimate, while being grand and confessional. A sweet statement to love that easily stands out from the thousand others.

Portals by Kaysien

0

If you want to feel nostalgic these days with some Indie pop/funk, you gotta hear “Kaysien” with their soulful music from London that was released recently on the 24th of June, 2022 a piece of music “Portals,” this piece is what connects the other pieces together that was built up by “Kaysien” in the past 2 years that shows a great journey as he keeps leveling with immense creativity.

The music for “Portals” starts with awesome beating music that is a 70’s nostalgic and fun to keep the mood at a colorful and fun pace and comes Kaysien’s soulful voice in this music that resides a story of human beings. “For this track, I wanted to generate a feeling of defiant energy, playful belligerence, and a sense of respect for life” Kaysiens explained.

The talented artist shows great ecstasy with the energy that beams out of the music and the lyrics, he created all this on his own being a one-man show in this industry, while he also produces and plays all instruments by himself.

You can just imagine the scene in this song in front of you with some 70’s aesthetic style going on while listening to it, it’ll keep you engaged the whole 3:24 minutes being in a different dimension. It can be listened to anytime to keep things off of your mind for those minutes with positive energy that emits from it and find yourself tapping your feet with the beats.

Shaken by Cynthia Hamar

Vulnerability in music may have become a little cliché nowadays. There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by a personal event to create some art, in fact, that’s quite encouraged. The problem can arise when you straddle the line between expressing that bit of sadness in a grown-up and professional manner, and just whining and pining all over the recording. Cynthia Hamar beautifully tames that line on here.

Cynthia Hamar of Edmonton, Canada is no stranger to creating heartfelt and professional pieces of pop, she has 3 studio albums under her belt and extensive time on the road and has garnered multiple comparisons with the likes of Feist and Tom Waits. On her newest single ‘Shaken’ it’s not hard to see where the praise comes from.

Cynthia leads the arrangement with an exceptionally warm delivery and a capable performance. Singing from a place of personal exhaustion and tragedy that shows in her inflictions tastefully. Behind her is an arrangement that’s rich and complete, with a simplistic bassline and a minimal beat. A laying-low jazz bar piano takes care of the harmony, while gorgeous guitars swoon and serenade all over the atmosphere.

In this stunning piece of folk-pop we see a group of musicians in command of their crafts come in accordance with the leadership of a capable songstress. A beautiful harmony that sees all elements helping each other shine. A part of Cynthia’s upcoming album, ‘Joint & Marrow’, that I’ll be anticipating impatiently.

Tigress by MC Nemesis

From L.A. rises an authentic hip-hop artist who creates lush and straightforward music “MC Nemesis” came up with awesome beats in her new release on the 17th of June, 2022 a song called “Tigress” with dope rhythmic music.

“Tigress” is the most upbeat music and I am so amazed by the honesty in the mystic music that is made in this piece, the artist’s voice gives the beat a really buzzing voice throughout the song and the music is synchronized with the lyrical meaning of the music.

There has been utter confidence that has lit up with greatness and extraordinary talent that caught a lot of different people’s attention with their soothing rich vocals and honest lyrics that gives away a lot of emotions that can’t be missed as this piece explains how she has the ability to empower herself and other with demonstrating in her music video with a lioness that is a predator in the world of animals that have the power over others.

“MC Nemesis” has created 3 songs in total since 2018 “Nefertiti the first,” “INNOV8!” and the new release “Tigress,” coming back on track with strong immaculate music that is created as they’re now partnered with powerful lyricist “God’s Gift.”

Symphony No. 1 in D minor by Raynald Grenier

0

Symphony No.1 in D Minor is the latest EP, and sixth release in general, from Québec-based composer Raynald Grenier. The EP is a classical instrumental piece (except for some choirs) composed of three tracks, each being its own movement and they’re respectively named: 1st Movement: In Nomine Patris, 2nd Movement: Et Fillis, 3rd Movement: Et Spiritus Sancti. Let’s take a look at what each of them sounds like and the emotion they carry.

In Nomine Patris: The perfect setting for this movement could be an opening scene of a movie or videogame with only narration or maybe minimal dialogue. The emotion could be a tragic backstory of the main character or the events that led him to where he is now. The first time the melody is played the piano/organ is at the forefront of it, reminiscent of Japanese composers- think Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood composer Akira Senju. The second time though, the horns take the lead, which is more typical of European composers and it’s pretty nice to see this variety as a testament to how eclectic the composition is; making it work with more than one instrumental arrangement. The fluidity of the movement makes it enjoyable despite its long duration, and the solid nature of the melody makes it suitable for a ballet or theatre operetta as there aren’t too many transitions or distractions. The way this main melody is placed forward acts as the main streamlining of events being told by the music.

The 2nd Movement: Et Filli:

This movement feels like a great land for the cultivation of scenes and other forms of media on top of it but stands its ground as a piece that’s listenable independently. At this point, you start to feel like this record was not only meant for enjoyers of classical and contemporary but lovers of movie soundtracks as well. I loved the use of an ominous harp in the middle of the track, it was impactful although subtle.

The 3rd Movement: Et Spiritus Sancti:

I loved the calmness of the first half of this track as it was preparing for the chaotic second half. The abundance of the choirs in the second half feels like a soul ascending to the skies after the main character’s life has ended. If the previous two tracks were presenting a backstory and a phase of deterioration and death, then this track is the conclusion and inevitable death of that character who had been suffering. This track is the darkest and that’s partly because of the chord progressions that are used and partly because of the thunderous transitions between the melodies.

At the end of the day, this album feels like a soundtrack or a musical score due to the emotional delivery it excels at. But this doesn’t take away from its ability to exist as a standalone project that perfectly carries its weight. There is no denying that the compositional skeleton was beautifully fleshed out by each and every one of the musicians here too. In my non-humble and very biased opinion, the decision made by Mr. Raynald Grenier to quit all other musical projects and begin his solo project a few years back was a great one, as it made all these great and emotional compositions see the light of day.

Road Takes Me by Jesse Grossi

LA-based songwriter Jesse Grossi embarks on an emotional journey with his latest single “Road Takes Me”. With warm melodies and right-from-the-heart lyrics, Grossi describes his song as “Road Takes Me about feeling alone, trapped, and tired of the daily struggles with sobriety. This is the inner dialogue of one’s conversation with the demons that we possess in our heads!”

Jesse Grossi brings back a lot of raw old-school vibes on “Road Takes Me”. It has some fluid vocals and beautiful harmonies and an open sound that gives the vocal melody the space to breathe and shine. “Road Takes Me” has some bright soothing melodies with warm sound and the perfect guitar tone. Its organic flow and dynamics gave it a natural sound that just flows through your ears and touches your soul with Grossi’s emotional real delivery and lyrics.

“Road Takes Me” is a sincere, heartfelt piece by Jesse Grossi that lots of us can relate to and feel connected to. His songwriting and vocal delivery made it sound simple, clear, and can easily get into your repeat list. Totally recommended, cheers!

If You Get This, Follow Our Beacon by Hailing Ishimura

Back in December 2021, Christopher True (guitar/bass) joined forces with

Dom Hopson (guitar/bass/synth/production) creating Hailing Ishimura. With a wide range of influences ranging from The Beatles and Bowie to Lamb of God and Red Sparowes, the duo released their single “If You Get This, Follow Our Beacons” as a part of their upcoming record so, let’s see what this is all about.

“If You Get This, Follow Our Beacon” starts with a low-key spacey intro with post-rock meets space rock vibes before it transitions into an open sound with soothing fluid synth melodies. These melodies softly build up into a heavier, bigger theatrical sound with pounding drums and a touching electric guitar solo. The guitar tone choice was perfect and backed by a subtle escalating ambient sound that kept on growing until it led us to a heavy cinematic outro that resolved that unique sonic journey.

“If You Get This, Follow Our Beacon” is an impressive sound trip led by Hailing Ishimura. They succeeded in creating such an interesting enjoyable experience without the listener losing focus or feeling bored and using the least number of arrangements or layers so the listener won’t get confused, all depending on flowing melodies and organic progressions. Looking forward to more interesting releases from Hailing Ishimura, I’ll be keeping an eye on them and I suggest you do too, cheers!

What Can I Do? by Connor Terrones

For different reasons, some fall into toxic relationships where their partners manipulate, take advantage, and emotionally abuse them. When you know your self-worth and have self-awareness, only then do you try to break free. The emerging artist, Connor Terrones, is covering this kind of relationship in his single. “What Can I Do?”

Speaking of self-awareness, the Denver, Colorado-based singer/songwriter, Connor Terrones, has finally decided to step out of the shadow of being a sideman for many Colorado acts and use his talents to make his own original music. “What Can I Do?” is his first single, featuring Julian Cary and Roy Matz.

“What Can I Do?” has a smooth fusion of R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop. It’s driven by synth, and while the electronic elements are noticeable and add an upbeat touch, the overall ambiance is rather soothing. The vocals have a bitter tone to convey the pain, but it goes easy on you with its delicate lines. I didn’t see a Rap verse coming, but it surely added depth to the song and enhanced the mood.

The arrangement makes the song grow on you and delivers the sensations of the song on its own. The lyrics open your wounds if you’ve ever been in this kind of relationship and convey the feeling of being trapped and not knowing your way out. Lines like: “What can I do when you try to lock me up and throw away the key. Now I wonder, am I really free?” Paint a picture of the abusive relationship.

There’s no denying that Connor Terrones is a talented musician who deserves to be followed to see how he evolves and what else he has to offer.
